I sat in a genesis at a car show recently and was thrilled until i got in the back seat. less room than my mustang.... but way more refined everywhere else obviously.. i'd buy this car if i was looking to convert it into two seater beast hunting down 370z's, camaros, and mustangs.

These numbers are way different than everyone else is getting (usually 20-40WHP less). They also don't match the quarter mile and 0-60 times the car actually gets. Makes me wonder what type of dyno they were using and in what gear.
i wonder how much power can be added from bolt ons. anybody have a guess? from what i hear these cars arent breathing well or anything so doing an intake and full exhaust should really help a lot.
Dart00Z --- yes they are coked, its air intake filter/box is same size as in tiburon - and it was too small for tiburon (8whp gain with CAI on tib) so intake alone should get you over 10whp.
You defenetly can get 300+ whp with simple boltons.
@andbudzi the only thing i dont get tho, is these cars are rated at 306hp, just like the 07 08 350z's. yet a stock HR 350z is capable of running low 13's while on the genesis forums they v6 owners average around low 14's.

Why are we comparing a Hyundai to an M6? You can compare it to a 128 but comparing with an M6 is just fucking ridiculous.. they don't cater to the same market at all. I think the new Genesis coupe is a great car, but I don't think I would buy them. It will take too much of a depreciation hit, and the interior won't hold up over the long haul.

umm,, ya i looked up the 0-60 and it does say 4.2.. i read 3.9 in car and driver but w/e.. the genesis is a POS compared to like a bmw m6, but it is still a very nice car. if i had had a choice between this and a bmw 323 i would choose this because it is faster and too many people at my school have 3 series
my dad owns a 2009 bmw m6... it is the sickest car in the word.. it if fast as fuck (0-60 in 3.9 seconds) and the interior is all leathered out with a suede ceiling.. he has never has a problem with it and it is the best car he has ever had.. (after owning audis and mercedes)

The past 12 years or so Hyundai really got their shit together. up until all the new body styles came out in 06 they were the drive for a few years then throw away because they are so cheap but for those who just need transportation theyre the way to go. easy to work on too. even those who arent technicians can work on them. oh and 279hp is pathetic for this modern era. for hyundai its not bad but ill take a 87 GNX with 276hp anyday

I've been driving the piss out of my Tiburon Tuscani for the last 5 years, and I do mean HARRRRD! The car hasn't suffered any problems at all. Literally. None. It still plants the wheels great, takes corners respectably, and there's no drop in power. The best part? I haven't even given it a tune up! in 5 years! Seriously, don't knock Hyundai's quality. The Genesis Coupe is a monster, and it'll handle things juuuuust fine.

g37 hit 305 hp while their specs says 330 hp. edmund's 2007 dyno on g37 was even lower at 280 hp.
in fact, hyundai went too conservative on thier horse power rating. its horse powers are actually much higher than 210(4 cyliner) and 305 (6 cylinder).
And g37's horse power rating is with premium vehicle while hyundai's horse power is on regular unleaded.
306bhp, that means at the crank, which equates to some drivetrain power loss. And actually, depending on what percentage is lost in the drivetrain, their claims may even be underrated.
1. toyota, honda use 90% non-jpanese parts(that includes engine).
2. genesis coupe is in same price range of honda accord coupe, toyota solara, lexus IS250. they all 90% non-japanese parts. Hyundai gen coupe looks to be much better car than these japanese pseudo sporty cars..

262 torque at the wheel is very impressive number. even the famous vq motor in g37 doenst produce this much torque. in terms of engine technology, hyundai is right up there with infinity. this video just proves that.

But slightly more torque will mean nothing if it's isn't very flat, by looking at the g37, it has very flat torque curve, which means it will give more power all round.

g37 beats hp from 6000 rpm, g37 even beats bmw 335i. g37 just lower overall torque.
you need to use very high rpm with g37.
for some people, genesis's 6500rpm limit might be deal breaker but overall torque curve is very respectable and even better than g37 which is $10K pricier.

look at the technical data, and the real world quarter mile time, genesis 3.8 is only making the same performance as the VQ35HR and maybe even less. For your information, 05 G35 6mt sedan with older VQ35DE engine can beat genesis coupe in quarter mile at 14.1 sec. In auto industry, korean manufacture still has a long way to go. 4.6L genesis V8 is a very good engine, but it's on the top 10 list mainly because of its attainable price.

Most people don't want to be seen in a hyundai even if it had Star Trek Technology...Due to the fact having a Hyundai isn't classy, not as good looking, the quality isn't TO DIE for. They're actually called Brembo's and it's spelt "brakes". 350z's also have Brembo brakes as a factory option. I'm skeptical of this Edmunds site you're reading too, that is a very big call placing Hyundai before Nissan, Toyota and Honda. Dart00Z --- yes they are coked, its air intake filter/box is same size as in tiburon - and it was too small for tiburon (8whp gain with CAI on tib) so intake alone should get you over 10whp.
You defenetly can get 300+ whp with simple boltons.

Why are we comparing a Hyundai to an M6? You can compare it to a 128 but comparing with an M6 is just fucking ridiculous.. they don't cater to the same market at all. I think the new Genesis coupe is a great car, but I don't think I would buy them. It will take too much of a depreciation hit, and the interior won't hold up over the long haul.

my dad owns a 2009 bmw m6... it is the sickest car in the word.. it if fast as fuck (0-60 in 3.9 seconds) and the interior is all leathered out with a suede ceiling.. he has never has a problem with it and it is the best car he has ever had.. (after owning audis and mercedes)

since you seem to know so much I'd like to know what makes a "quality" car? When Lexus first came out people laughed...same with Infiniti, BMW, and Mercedes; no one took them serious. Cadillac was the premiere luxury brand until people gave the other brands a chance. The new Hyundai has German engineering (just like BMW) and wow, got car of the year in the class of 3 series, 5 series, infinity g37, chevy camaro v6, and mustang gt...let me not forget 5 star crash rating on EVERYTHING.

The past 12 years or so Hyundai really got their shit together. up until all the new body styles came out in 06 they were the drive for a few years then throw away because they are so cheap but for those who just need transportation theyre the way to go. easy to work on too. even those who arent technicians can work on them. oh and 279hp is pathetic for this modern era. for hyundai its not bad but ill take a 87 GNX with 276hp anyday

I've been driving the piss out of my Tiburon Tuscani for the last 5 years, and I do mean HARRRRD! The car hasn't suffered any problems at all. Literally. None. It still plants the wheels great, takes corners respectably, and there's no drop in power. The best part? I haven't even given it a tune up! in 5 years! Seriously, don't knock Hyundai's quality. The Genesis Coupe is a monster, and it'll handle things juuuuust fine.

no. it's only one dyno test.
g37 hit 305 hp while their specs says 330 hp. edmund's 2007 dyno on g37 was even lower at 280 hp.
in fact, hyundai went too conservative on thier horse power rating. its horse powers are actually much higher than 210(4 cyliner) and 305 (6 cylinder).
And g37's horse power rating is with premium vehicle while hyundai's horse power is on regular unleaded.

1. toyota, honda use 90% non-jpanese parts(that includes engine).
2. genesis coupe is in same price range of honda accord coupe, toyota solara, lexus IS250. they all 90% non-japanese parts. Hyundai gen coupe looks to be much better car than these japanese pseudo sporty cars..

But slightly more torque will mean nothing if it's isn't very flat, by looking at the g37, it has very flat torque curve, which means it will give more power all round.

hahhaha, who cares under 4k rpm, the g37 goes to nearly 8k rpm while this car is stuck at 6xxx rpm. There is so much use and powerband to use in the g37.

overall flat torque from low rpm to 6500 rpm.
g37 beats hp from 6000 rpm, g37 even beats bmw 335i. g37 just lower overall torque.
you need to use very high rpm with g37.
for some people, genesis's 6500rpm limit might be deal breaker but overall torque curve is very respectable and even better than g37 which is $10K pricier.

The aftermarket parts of the hyundai genesis has been a high demand and has been shipping already. This car will outperform the infiniti g37 with a little tweek. So imagine all the things you can do with the extra 10,000. New exhausts, new spoiler etc......

You dont see any infiniti or nissan engines anywhere for the 2009 top ten engines.
THE hyundai genesis coupe has 30 less hp than infiniti but 30 more torque. It also has a starting price of 25,000 and with full packages and the v6 you get around 30,000 while the infiniti is 10 grand more. Is the infinti better than the genesis by 10,000???? In this kind of economy it would be the logical choice to buy the genesis coupe.

hyundai 4 the win. Who would pay 10,000 more for an infiniti? If you go for the brand name stick with the german engineering like the bmw or mercedes. Those are true brand name cars. Infiniti compared their cars to the higher end such as bmw,lexus and merecedes and sold their cars for cheaper saying that why pay thousands of more dollars just for the brand name. Hyundai is playing at their own game and giving infiniti a taste of their own medicine. Why pay 10,000 more for an infiniti?

look at the technical data, and the real world quarter mile time, genesis 3.8 is only making the same performance as the VQ35HR and maybe even less. For your information, 05 G35 6mt sedan with older VQ35DE engine can beat genesis coupe in quarter mile at 14.1 sec. In auto industry, korean manufacture still has a long way to go. 4.6L genesis V8 is a very good engine, but it's on the top 10 list mainly because of its attainable price.

If you compare the hyundai genesis sedan to the g37 sedan the 0-60 is exactly the same but the infiniti is 12,000 more expensive. And you keep saying its faster in the quater mile. Most people don't want to be seen in a hyundai even if it had Star Trek Technology...Due to the fact having a Hyundai isn't classy, not as good looking, the quality isn't TO DIE for. Most people (well young) buy a car for either pleasure or for status and the buying a car from the Hyundai brand will give you a shit status and people will start to rib you for it. Also the number's are pretty dissapointing for 0-60 and 1/4 times as an rx-8 can get that faster and have the same 1/4.

They're actually called Brembo's and it's spelt "brakes". 350z's also have Brembo brakes as a factory option. I'm skeptical of this Edmunds site you're reading too, that is a very big call placing Hyundai before Nissan, Toyota and Honda. If they're good cars, they'll prove themselves, as the said Jap car companies had to.

As an owner of 2 Hyundai's, 1 ive had for 15 years and another i got 2 years ago, im thrilled to see Hyundai come out with a sporty RWD car, ive wanted to see this day happen so badly and here it is... W00t!
