I found this song after watching Linda Rondstats version. i then saw James Morrison, don't laugh too hard but thought it was the late Jim Morrison from the Doors! who also has a version!
@cindyshealed He's well known in the UK, he's only played a few times in the US. Look up his other song "You Give Me Something" which was his first single he released 5 yrs ago
this song is itself very beautiful in all the versions ive heard... and even more marvellous hearing the original of cat stevens version from james morrison!
i am totallyyyyy in love ... this is absolutely probably the best version in my opinion!! i love this song, but hearing him sing it just made me have a brand new perspective of it and it realllly touched me more then any others ... =] AWESOME!!
Everybody is normal... What makes me say that? Well I'll start by saying that we're all different, correct? All in our own special little way, there are no two persons in this world who are exactly the same in every way. It might sound cheesy but it's true. And because we're all different that's what makes us normal. That's th way I see it anyway.
Keith Hampshire covered it in 1973 and it went to #1 in Canada. Stevens didn't release it as a single. He considered Hampshire's the "standard". It's the classic version.
@macwattage PP Arnold released the first single of this song (written by Cat Stevens) in 1967. Then Cat Stevens put it on his own album "New Masters" later the same year (but you're right, it was never a single for him). Either of those could be considered the "original " version. I've never even heard the Keith Hampshire version... I'll listen to it now. But I'm surprised Cat Stevens would call it the "standard." When/where did he say that?
i saw him then too, he took my breath away, didnt think he could sound any better than on records..... he soooo did! AMAZING TALENT and such a sexy voice!
saw him at manchester m.e.n 29/11/09 and he was sooooooooooooooooooooo amazing he is the best solo artist around at the moment and soo much better live :P
@Hospopro Cat Stevens wrote and recorded it first, but a lot of people have covered it. You probably know the great recent version by Sheryl Crow, but Linda Ronstadt covered it, probably not long after it was written, and Rod Stewart also covered it.
@Hospopro Since I wrote what I wrote I discovered Cat Stevens wrote it long before he became famous. He wrote it in the 60s -- '67 I think. He didn't become famous until the early 70s. Linda Ronstadt didn't record it until about 10 years after it was written -- I think it was about '78. If you get a chance check out the P.P. Arnold versions --- there's one from the 60s and one from the last few years -- 2004 I think it was. There's also a cool reggae version from the 60s by Norma Fraser.
this guy just need good equipment and to stay close to the mic cuz his voice is fucking great!!!! and the timing he gives the song within the realms of the cover, damn
this is pretty good. lol when I first read the description, I thought "no way, James Morrison's been dead since '71" but then I figured out I was thinkin of Jim Morrison, lol.
@perryfan1996 haha i know i thought the same as you ... I was like what??? if he was alive he would be old it was funny if it wasn't for your comment i would still be confused
Nah, you're quite mistaking, a Gibson Hummingbird falls under the categories Western guitars, acoustic guitars or steelstrings. A classical guitar is what they call a Spanish guitar and has nylon strings...
wow..i actually didn't know that he has a version of this song...i love this song and the version of sheryl crow...and it's soo good to know that my other fave james morrison did this song too...
