The first time I seen the movie North to Alaska Was in 1961 I had my first date with my wife.It was at the Twin Palms drive in theater..Get tihs she was 12 and I was 17.
This was my brother's favourite song. He died last August from pancreatic cancer and so listening to this song brings a lump to my throat. Miss you Ger.

big sam left seattle in the year of '92...they cross the yukon river and found the bonanza gold....way up north ....NORTH TO ALASKA...to find that beautiful lady...sara palin just about the most beautifu lady to ever be in the while house....when she runs for the presidency.....and becomses the next president of the united states...
ever noticed that they left in 92 and later in the song he was a big man "in the year of 91"? Try Johnny Allan's "answer" record South to Louisiana...just as good....jv london, england
Being from East Texas the homeland of johnny horton,we are surrounded by big pines & others,so this video is like riding the backroads of east texas listening to johnny horton ! So this video is not 100% crap
The song was okay, but the video is 100% pure crap, After the first 10 seconds why watch any more of it. Speaking as an Alaskan, if you are going to attempt something like this at least try to videotape something a little bit interesting.
who knows, maybe that kind of landscape has got some sentimental meaning to the the guy filming. as for me, this is inspiration for animation stuff, and not "100% pure crap"
When I was a kid I thought he was saying the Russian Zone instead og the rush is on.Cousin brought us to theater to see North to Alaska with John WAYNE
Butch this is for you always. rip my dear sweet man. I miss you. and this is your song. love ya always.. may you sleep in Alaska 4ever. God has you now my love. I love you always.
Yea, that lilt on Horton's, "North!" has a bit of rockabilly to it, actually throughout he has a subdued swagger to it. I just read that in addition to be inducted into the country hall of fame he was also inducted into the rockabilly hall of fame...
thanks for sharing this song. my dear uncle used to sing this to me when I was a little girl. love hearing it after all these years gone by. miss you uncle Bill. rip
I'm a teenager of this new twisted generation and I would pick this over pop and time, any day

I don't normally fancy country songs that much, but is clearly an exception. A superb song, just listen to that voice!
