  • some soft music would be nice. It would even bring more views. for the people to understand how important this new frontier is it would help if there was apropriate music to each of nasa's vids. few people can understand how important this is but those who can't understand can be helped to feel it's importance.

  • Haha! I find it funny that if you get enough negative votes that your comment is hidden.

  • i wish youtube had a fast forward button... wanna see the flip in ten fold speed ;)

  • I wonder if someone on board said "Does my bum look big in this?"

  • @FranQin I don't think you know much about the space shuttle, do you? The roll was to inspect the heat shield, so a disaster like Columbia doesn't happen again. Also, the shuttle is designed only for maneuvering in orbit around the Earth, and is incapable of traveling to the moon.

  • I totally reccommend playing this video with The Blue Danube Waltz by Strauss. It's what Kubrick would have wanted!

  • i guess tha this is filmed from the ISS or some sattelite

since eart is in the background

  • Lol, "flying backward" Just joking, But I love Space Shuttle flying in space.

  • Silently,

  • Looks like a beautiful wale in the ocean!.....

  • Orbital velocity in low earth orbit is about 7 km/s. This means that the space shuttle traveled about 3250km, or 2020 miles, just over the course of this video.

    That's one sweet-ass back flip. =D

  • <3<3<3

  • Beautiful machine.

  • Great footage.

  • absolutely breathtaking...

  • "Do you read me Hal? Open the pod bay doors."

  • When I was watching this I just kept thinking.... Shamu the killer whale

  • Can not wait to get to the Moon and Mars by 2030!!!! Wonder how many hours to master that flip?

  • @bigswallow2 Moon ain't gonna happen now, thanks to O'Bomba.

  • perfection!!!!

  • Yes, I matched the NASA TV, I say that the flip damage.

  • It looks amazing... but it's sad that people had to die before they implemented this safety measure...

    :(

  • @countrywishes They feel safer =)

  • I just see tranquillity in the cargo bay... Where's cupola??? SHUTTLE IS HIJACKED!!!! AAAA!!!

  • why did they flip? what was the point?

  • @willyis100

The Rendezvous Pitch Maneuver is so that a couple of the astronauts on Station can photograph(with very-high resolution cameras) the bottom and sides of the Shuttle. By doing so, they can make sure the Shuttle's thermal protection is safe for reentry.

  • saft, checking they havent recived any damage after launch

  • Read description ftw

  • Read the description? Duuuh

  • i thought i was cool to mention that the video is almost 8 minutes long (and they're orbiting at what speed again?), and there was no land visible till right at the very end. that's a lot of ocean!

  • they are flying on the Pacific Ocean, only a small part of it though.

the atoll you see at 4:25 is part of the island nation of Palau about 875km east of Philippines. and the land you see towards the end is part of Papua New Guinea.

it is flying from North-West to South-East.

took me about 15 minutes to find that atoll among thousands of atolls in the Pacific Ocean :)

  • class

  • this is stunning...................

  • Some music would of been nice

  • is the shuttle being filmed by the iss?

  • @neutronjet :) Unless someone else was out there! sorry, couldn't resist

  • 23 Crew on the ISS!!! You've come a LONG way from stuffing a couple guys in a tin can and slinging them into the moon! GO NASA ESA

  • Just amazing.

  • Great move..

  • id liked to know how the crew members feel after that.?

  • @countrywishes I doubt they feel anything at all. Just a change of scenery as they make the flip

  • they don't feel any acceleration during the flip but at the impulsion they do feel some slight change but nothing much...

  • WOW! Look out star trek, here we come!

  • After seeing this I wounder if any ritual has a cause behind it.

  • @javaexcel it is so the crew on the ISS can photograph the belly to make sure that there are no damage on Endeavours heat shield:)

  • Do A Barrel Roll!!

  • crazy xD
