I wondered where drummer Ron went after he left Acker Bilk. Great to hear him better than ever. Does anyone know what happened to the rest of Ackers band, ROGER MORTIMER (trombone)..COLIN SMITH (trumpet)..ERNIE PRICE (base) JAY HAWKINS i think (banjo). Your dad was my hero in the late 1950s and early 1960s. How is he these days does he still play, is he in touch with the old Acker Bilk band members?
I always watch this with a tear in my eye. A real good louis armstrong feel. Everone is at their best and it looks like a good night. Anyone hoping to take up trad should have a blast at this, its sure to explain whats brilliant about the sound.
@eviejette Hi leah, I sat next to Dad for tens of thousands of miles and STILL ain't heard a more swinging drummer / vocalist like him.... must get up to Mancland soon... Syd
that line is from "the battle at the Trafalgar. God, I must have heard it over a 1000 times, although I never saw them play live (I am from 1972, my parents went out to see him in Enhuizen those days). I know each and every tone and word on that album.
"That's fingers Williams there boys...!" fabulous band, fabulous recording. Thanks for posting!
I recently bought the Trafalgar album on CD. Unfortunately they have skipped one song and skipped some text lines as well.
Ernie Price unfortunately died some time ago
