There was a bonus though . . . the losers didn't have to walk up the bloody hills again!!
Beautiful country, the only sadness is what we humans create in it. My daughter lives in the Borders, it's too beautiful to have the history it's got.
Not my favorite by the bard, love him anyway. I had to watch this because I've been taught this song and about this battle at Fort William since early childhood, as I am a descendant of the Glencoe MacDonalds. My fav will still always be the bards "Scotland the Brave". If you haven't heard it do so. Also buy Jesse's Cd its awesome!.
Always a sad song to hear. My kids are somehow related to the Campbells through their father. There are so many sorrowful ballads... I kind of hope there were some happy times in Scotland as well.
As someone with a good amount of MacDonald blood in my veins, I would like to thank you for recording this song. Such a sad story, but it's important that people remember what happened. The MacDonalds of Glencoe were murdered in cold blood simply because they wouldn't bow to tyranny.
Excellent rendition of this great song, Jesse. Not a traditional song though. It was written by Jim McLean in 1963, and recorded for the first time in 1969.
I love your M. dulcimer it has its own unique ting to it when you make your downstroke. Im so glad to see you using it again, your Four Marys on the dulcimer is one of my favorite songs to listen to.
I've heard Beaton butcher this a dozen times. I couldn't keep a dry eye to your version.

Jesse:
This song always gives me lumps... even if sung by a butcher... which you are not.

I really like what you are doing... Did you ever do "Garry Owen?" (with words?)
