I've been searching online for solid time looking for studios in japan; i work as a compositor, i was wonder if you know any movie/post production companies in japan. i've worked in china and canada for 5 years now. I mean i can list my work and show demo reel but its next to impossible even when searching in japanese to find studios!
i have a question. i want to visit japan with my friends, but i am afraid of the racism there against koreans (i am the only korean in the group). is racism against gaijins there still strong?
@Fantasist197 its all good. to be honest, i was shocked that a lot of korean people think that japan are racist towards korea coz korean culture in japan is quite popular among young people.
@TKDarkEagle it's caused by korean gov. korean culture is supported by korean gov and they just control the media as if it's popular in the world. but actually, no one cares in japan. how can you like such "very asian" ppl? it's so disgusting to see vids even about comparison between japan and korea. korean have very low inferiority complex between big powers japan and china leading them making fake vids. korean don't hesitate to tell a lie for a cheap pride, and that's why japanese hate korean.
heey i have a question, i want to find a place to live in tokyo that is not to expensive, maybe living at a student house or in a apartment shared with others? any sugestions? its for 1 year

I think it's awesome that you use your time to post videos for the benefit of others, I'd like to thank you for that. Hopefully you'll have some time to relax now school's finishing. Japan is my long term goal, currently studying japanese in spare time and have a degree & masters. Been looking at environmental jobs (as I'm an Environmental Scientist) and will keep looking. Until then I shall keep studying and will make it one day (just need patience!) As always, thoroughly enjoy your videos :D
Hi Kevin! I moved to Japan from Canada ten years ago and just thought I would say that I started off with a four year degree in Japan. This is a possibility, so for those high school kids really interested in Japan I would suggest you check out things like the "monbusho" scholarship. Also for graphics/web designers: If you are really really good, Japanese language may not be a requirement. But again, you have to be really really good and maybe come over on a working holiday first to land a job.
Kevin, Would a degree in teaching history or teaching kids with limited disabilities a possibility in Japan? Also, would you be able to do a video on transportation in Japan? I tend to wonder how many people actually own personal cars and how they get around.
loved the vids like always hard truths are a pretty nice touch won't lie a couple of those truths like the stiff job market is a little disheartening but lets face the facts its stiff competition no matter were you are weather it is japan, the states, you just gotta have thick skin cause you will probably get turned down a few times you just need to have perseverance and keep going head strong even if you have to go to japan to look for a job there are ways, you just need to find a way.
My wife is japanese and work for a japanese corporation. All the Japanese at the company holds engineering/managerial position at that company. They stay in the States for a few years and head back to japan. These managers grasp on english is not good, but they're working here none the less. I've been to Japan a few time ,and it seems the only thing westerners can do is teach english. Heck I see africans there selling shoes and shirts crap like that, but north american all they can do is teach
Going to Japan is overrated. A lot of people here on YouTube are blinded by Japan can't think of anything else. Being an anime freak isn't enough reason to move to Japan. There are other great countries, too. Not to mention I think people would be surprised how much they love their own country once they actually leave it. Just my $0.02
For people with a degree and who want to come as English teachers or as Coordinators in International Relations, apply to the JET Programme, just google it...
It's a GREAT opportunity to live and experience Japan first hands for at least a year!!
The competition is tough, but it's completely worthwhile!! Good luck!
Do you know anything about the view towards halfies and getting a teaching job? I got fired from my crazy hagwon in Korea and haven't got many options that I can afford other than staying with my japanese family and applying for a child of japanese visa to work. I have a degree, TEFL and 6 months of experience. Will I be looked down on for being fired?
You forgot about working holiday visa's which you get from the japanese embbassy in your country it's good for 1 year and you can work part time so it would probably be good to have quite a bit of coin saved up like 10,000 before you go to compensate for the PT work you would be doing.
I'm doing computer programming degree and i was planing to take Japanese classes (next year i will, korean later). Whenever i graduate from college i will try to apply to a big company and program video games and then ask for a transfer to japan :P thats my main plan. im also interest in going to korea also.
Hearing that your recommendation match with my plans it makes me feel pretty good :P.
Teaching english isn't a option for me bc isn't my first language :P
you should goto the job fair in Boston. I think they're looking for people with your skills and some companies would be willing to fund your language training. Don't sit around and delay or pass up a chance to live in Japan if you want to. If all else fails just go work in Singapore. They're constantly looking for new talent and PR status is easy to get. In fact I think Singapore is a better place to live.
@BusanKevin Well in Canada to get a Holiday visa you just need to meet this criteria, Be Canadian citizen and reside in Canada, Intend to holiday in Japan, Be between 19-30 years of age, posses a reasonable amount of funds to support yourself and medical expenses wells in japan, Have a Canadian passport and a return ticket to Canada, Be in good Health and have no criminal record, Have never had a holiday visa before...... I bet it doesn't differ much from country to country.

Tech sector. Not just about video games. Good number of network engineers, system engineers are foreigners. A lot of the network gear here is from US companies.
@BusanKevin Yes, I can imagine, if he was sent over here from the States. A lot of what he'd be doing is communicating with people in the US.
Do all engineers have to handle Japanese? No. Do some work jobs where they have to? Yes. Do some work jobs where they can get away with speaking little to none? Yes. Do some come over and pick it up as they go? Yes.
zaw man well now adays associates take 3-4 years its not a 2 year anymore because lets face it you were to get it in two years you couldnt work or have any sort of real life with the amount of credit hours youd have to take every semester. mine took 4 years ugh
I've done quite a bit of research on different programs for studying abroad in Japan. I've found one program that doesn't require you to own a visa or a college degree. But I've read that you can only do a 6 week term if you don't have a visa. Just thought I'd mention this bit of info. :) Anyway, very informative video Kevin. Thanks for this!
I turn 17 this year, moving to Japan in August. Studying distance on a Swedish school, and I've got my contacts on a baito. My Japanese is fine, and I still have time to study. On holidays (as in Swedish holidayl) I will go to school learning Japanese.
90% of the people I've spoken to want me to "pull myself together" and realize I've gone mad. (right..?)
But as said, if you really want something you can make it as you said it yourself). Otherwise, you can always go home again.
Hi Kevin! Great video! Thanks for continuing to do your part in educating the masses who'd like to join us teachers in Asia, especially since I know you don't really have time to do it. Many will find this video informative, even if they don't like the reality of the requirements one needs to teach here. Cheers!
@GreenEggsAndHamster thanks a lot. Yeah....i suppose in this video and the blog I referred to in the vid, I'm telling many what they don't want to hear, but it is real and honest. This is the deal if you wanna come to asia to work!
A really interesting and helpful vlog. I'm thinking about doing my Master degree abroad, but not in Asia though. And eventually I would like to move to a foreign country. I think keeping in school and not doing drugs applies to virtually every country.
hey kevin. i was just wondering about this when you mentioned that its getting harder to grab a teaching job over there but, i heard from elsewhere in april 2011 (2 months from now) , english will become mandatory in japan. Will this perhaps open more doors for aspiring english teachers? what do you think about this?
I graduate from my degree in July and am going to apply for a scholarship to study in Japan for two years in April. I am also applying for a masters degree at my university, and whichever I pass will influence whether or not I take up the other.
Though I would in all likelehood apply to study Japanese culture (probably in Nagoya since they have a larger than some rate of foreign student placements) I have a contact that could ger me work in the theatre in Japan. All cool stuff.
How about going to Japan to teach Japanese LOL
