Mark brings everything to life! A brilliant and tragic realisation. I'd always thought the soldier was being semi-kind too, but never understood why sour vinegar was offered, not water. Sad.
"In our own ways we have shuved the sponge of our lives into his mouth" Does he mean when we ask for consolation? I've needed to cling to Jesus a lot lately...
@ByteofK John 1:1: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word WAS God.
John 1:14: The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
I Timothy 3:16: And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
My favorite preacher proves once again why he is my favorite. We will never fully comprehend exactly what Jesus went through for us on the cross. THANK YOU JESUS!!!!

How are you sure that tradition of toilet wipe cleaning with the vinegar sponge is to be connected to the vinegar sponge given to Jesus on the cross?

John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that He gave his ONLY BEGOTTEN SON.
Why do so many good preachers get it mixed up? God didn't die on the cross, His SON did. Just like Abraham was told to give his son.
Otherwise, fantastic piece with some interesting information.
