Since all boats compromise in one or more aspects and each is designed for a specific purpose and reason, all I can really say is: This is one beautiful sailboat.
this could be a great boat for lake sailors who would want a littel larger boat to sail and easier to store in winter i see a few positives in this design
the beams should be wider and broader to facilitate foot traffic. perhaps a simple collapsible platform that folds down too. i always wondered why they dont have these kind of systems (lateral and longitudinal) on normal catamarans electrically or manually powered. have the length and width of a 50 footer on a 30 footer, good for stability!
I live on my 32 foot catamaran. The one thing I don't get is: why a folding cat? are you just trying to be able to park it in a little slip meant for a monohull?
@udannlin Please explain, as a 'normal' cat can be towed too... The beam construction is more complicated and heavy then normal too. Except for the trailering (which could be nice for some people) I mostly see downsides.
@bbwsr availabilities of berths are also another reason why cats these size are not easy to own. not only are the end berths expensive, they are also scarce.
@udannlin I own a Cat too, not foldable, even a little smaller the yours (23.5 foot (model is an 'Aventura' from go-catamarans in France)) and have 4 pretty comfortable beds 92cm wide. Yet your cat will be faster without a doubt... my beams are a bit wider to have a little more comfort. This configuration sleeps 4 adults (yet not at the comfort level many current boaters like ;) It's ment for real sailing not hanging around in the harbour (just like yours).
i help build this boat. im the guy in the red 'unfolding' the boat. it can be unfolded faster but wasnt for this test as we seeing if we could keep the mast up while it was all hapening. their are designs for plywood designs similar to this out there. and yes they are not cheap to build!!!
I remember of an american couple who build such a sailcraft for trailering once a year to Baja California. Looks like a good alternative to a F31/Corsair 31
has anyone else noticed its not in the water?

do you have to "lock" the extension beams, once in place, using brackets, or...?
