I've been an Irish dance since the age of three and this is just awful. How this could ever be put into a show that is associated with this kind of dance is ridiculous and gives off a very bad image of what this sort of dance is about. Last time I checked it was certainly not about stupid girls flaunting themselves in front of thousands of people on stage.
Celtic Tiger as I see it is not an Irish dance show.It is a "dance show" and if you look at it that way you'll find it amusing and entertaining.I have the DVD and I like it.Sure I like "lord of the dance" more, but this is still a nice show. And by the way: in lord of the dance there was a scene where all dancers took of their cloth either (feet of flames) so why didn't anybody said anything about it?
umm, i get the plane freedom part... but what the heck does taking off your clothes infront of thousands of people mean freedom?
yeah... she is free off her clothes but ... i doubt the meaning of stripping is justifiable when your talking about Americans. Need some help getting my head around this however i do respect Michael ... for his dancing atleast.
nice show. but I wish he'd stop trying to connect himself to ireland. I find it vulgar to say the least. His capitalist attitude goes against everything that irish men and women have fought against .
okay, Anddizzle...first of all...who the f*ck are you calling a whore? lol...and I TOTALLY agree with Witchbtch...I understood what Michael Flatley was saying in this number as well...it is a tongue-in-cheek, humorous way of poking fun at the values of his own country versus old country values...although some of the morals of the UK and Ireland are pretty loose actually lol...we have much more censorship here in the USA...I applaud what he did here
...and what the lovely dancer did here is considered an art form by many. She stripped away the old-country ways to become American lol. I'm as Irish-American as Michael Flatley myself. Bravo Michael you're amazing xoxo
"The problem is that a stripping scene does not belong to a show that is based on Irish and Irish-American traditional culture." Actuallu it does, stripping is quite common in AMERICA.. And that's was this scene is absout..
"But if I buy a ticket to see Lord of the Dance, I don't want to see boobs." And you wont, 'cause this is Celtic Tiger.. In case you missed that part..
And laso, in case you didn't notice, he's making fun of the male sterotype as weel. Men in uniforms? Hello? THAT'S something for the ladies I can tell you! :p
And by the way, Im going to Hamburg in december to se he's comeback as The Lord of the Dance, and he is as amazing as he has always been.
Okey it looks like a LOT of people don't understand this scene at all! This is about when the Irish moved to America and it is done with a LOT of sence of humor! This is a total stereotyping of America!High heels, stripping, and the USA-bikini.He's makin fun of his own country! You DO know that he is born and rased in USA?
I've seen this show live, and it's nothing offensive at all with this. It's just ironic! And I've ben a Michael-fan since -94 so don't you call him perverted! That is just stupid.
I'm a woman through and through...but I found nothing offensive here...while I agree it's not exactly for family, I also understand the message of this dance number. I thought it was well-done, sexy, the dancer had great moves...and the men in uniform...mmmmmmmhmmmmmm!!!
I'm a woman through and through...but I found nothing offensive here...while I agree it's not exactly for family, I also understand the message of this dance number. I thought it was well-done, sexy, the dancer had great moves...and the men in uniform...mmmmmmmhmmmmmm!!!

@HungaricusDominatus Agreed. Another problem is that in Britain at least theatres (non-movie theatres) don't have a ratings system so someone could bring his dear old mum expecting to see a nice Irish dancing style show and the old dear could have a coronary at this one. This is definitely PG-15
aww come on people lighten up, I'm a woman and i don't find this offensive at all i mean she only stripped to her underwear, costume underwear at that, next you;ll be saying you find the Victoria's secret fashion show offensive.
@moodybluesgurl I agree with you, this was only a strip-tease (and it was meant to be funny by the looks of it) and you can VERY obviously tell it's more of a bikini than underwear. People are overreacting about it...
@HungaricusDominatus Well if someone views this dance as perverted they need to look inside their own minds because there's something seriously disturbed lurking there! I'm a woman, a mother and I don't find it perverted. She's a lovely young woman, it's fun and funky, and there's nothing "dirty" about the human body, only to those with sick minds. People should worry about pedophiles and murders and rapists, not those who work long and hard to entertain and give pleasure to millions of us.
@soxbox1 Point taken. But I translated it as the era where the Irish emigrated, due to the famine or troubles..Those who went to America were exposed to a different culture. Irish women were more modest. Suddenly they are faced with a brashness and a sexual awareness they were not accustomed to. I thought this was what the story was trying to say,( the girl clearly defined as American.) This is my interpretation. I may well be wrong I still view it within the bounds of decency. Best wishes.
Michael Flatley, I was a great fan of him 10 years ago when I was 14.. But Celtic Tiger is way over te top and this scene is sexistic. He should have stopped after Feet of Flames.
some of you still say that there's a story behind Celtic Tiger. What should that be? Probably: " I was young and I needed the money. And the millionaire Michael Flatley with the golden legs (and gray hair) said if I didn't strip I could go home"? Great story.
this shows how the Irish felt at first in the USA, very awkward, not knowing what to do. But then they get used to the new world, and the removing of the outer clothes showing the USA underneath shows how they have become part of this new culture, free to express themselves, like she's free of her original self.
yea, when the irish girls came to USA they all felt the inner need to "express themselves"(your words) and to become table-dancers (prostitutes, etc.)
Hallelujah, they just killed their irish souls!!!!
@beautytipsandadvice Celtic Tiger is awesome; but the striptease scene really wasn't needed. (Earlier in the show there was a babyish dance number with butterflies & flowers, which I think was to compensate for this sexed up number.)
You know, some people need to get a grip! I thought the whole Celtic Tiger was fantastic. My grandmother in her 80's used to be a dance choreographer and she loved this dvd. Guess some parts of the world aren't mature enough to handle change.
all of his shows have been a departure from traditional irish dancing, he has pushed the boundaries of the art to new heights and i don't think the millions who have seen his shows are too bothered, if it was so much of an issue the show would have been a flop.
@sweetlove07alisha Funny it took that to show what a talent less douche he is. Nevermind how gay the whole thing is, but good for you to actually be able to stomach this crap.
Aww... I love Michael Flatley and all, but this is like a strip show. :'( What happened? I dont mean to seem negative. I liked it when the officers came out, but eeek I cant say I liked the rest.
