Never mind my last statement. I just found the universal 12.7mm 2nd hard drive optical bay caddy for $14.49 on Amazon. Should fit my 15.6 compaq cq60 notebook just fine. Thanks for video though, it should make the transfer a breeze. 1 QUESTION, since I can't afford an ssd, do you know where I can get a 1tb ,2.5inch ,16mb cache , sata 3, 7200rpm hard drive? The best I'VE found is a 5400rpm or 750gb in that configuaration. Since the optical bay will fit a 12.5mm drive I thought I'd go with 1tb.
wonder if I could set up a raid of SSDs with this? Does it have a slower transfer speed and does it show up as a hard drive in the bios? Ahh,nvm there probably isnt a raid controller on a laptop with one HDD bay.
Since I'm guessing I need to buy a specific optical caddy since the dvd caddy won't take a sata hard drive , which kind of optical caddy will be compatible with a sata hard drive ? Where can I order one online ?
What is the hard drive Mb/s compared to a standard internal. Does the optical drive use the same interface or will the drive be slower in this config?

@xReprise remember the universal repository of knowledge: GOOGLE! In this case, SSD stands for Solid State Drive, a more expensive form of hard drive that has no moving parts. These use less power and have higher performance.
This is brilliant. I have a 640GB drive full of files, but I'd also like to have a SSD to install Windows and software on for faster startup and better performance. I ordered one of these from newmodeUS and will probably stick my old 320GB HDD in until I can afford a 64 or 128GB SSD.
Honestly, I use my optical drive so rarely I just can't justify it taking the place of a large hard drive. Now I just need an external caddy for my optical drive..
This is better use of a computer with the dual hard drives not many people i know even use the dvd drives any more they just save them to the computer or download the software that they use no disc necessary
I have been hunting for this and thanks for good video.
Well I have HP Pavillion DV6739TX model which has 160GB pre-installed with vista 32bit. Many of my application s/w's are not compatible with this. Hence I want additional HDD in which I want to install XP 64bit. I want to use 2 different HD with 2 different OS. Possible? If so, I want 320GB or 640GB in South Korea. Any representative or agent selling this in South Korea? I need this quite urgently. Possibility please... Looking forward.
This is Really good. I have been hunting before I reached over here.
Well, I have HP Pavillion DV6739TX model bought in Korea from HP directly. I want to know if its really compatible with my model. If so, I want 320GB or 640GB or 1TB HDD. I want to install Windows XP while my primary(first) drive is having original Windows Vista 32bit. Due to many of my application s/w's not compatible with 32bit vista, I want to use this additional HDD. Possible? If so, I want to buy in Korea.
1) A lot of laptop users rarely use their Optical Drive, but need more drive spaces for files. Adding a 2nd drive is a good way to bump up drive space.
2) Some notebook users want "dual boot capability" on their laptops
3) Some users want to add SSD to their laptop (solid state drives)
@newmodeUS Another good reason is if you've made the main drive on your laptop a SSD (which I highly recommend) but want a normal drive for things that will write frequently to the drive (thus reducing its life) OR for storing large files (movies music etc) that don't need the SSD speed boost and would use up your SSD space premium fast, OR use as a builtin backup drive.

Wow this looks amazingly easy!
When I decided to embark on this project and see if it was even possible I thought it would be an intensely difficult job.
The 4 minute video says otherwise, thanks I'll give these bays a look!

It would be awesome if there were the usual hooks to attach the standard bezel from the CD drive to. then it would be a perfect match.

I want to pu it into my laptop, but i don't like the space between caddy and chassis (as you can see in this video)

Hello humblehard,
It is possible. You should be able to set via the BIOS "boot option" after adding the 2nd drive.
Sorry, we don't have any distributors in South Korea.
Thank you
