  • I got an Lenovo G560 though the trackpad succk ball. I found a way to get it work at least.

  • Awesome video, where did you get your background from anyways?

  • A lot of noise from the cooler. :|

  • Ahh, lol... the noise is from a monster desktop behind the laptop... sorry.

  • @lewiar sounds more like godzilla :P

  • people say these notebooks arn't for gaming but they can run wow just fine I have a ibm thinkpad t41 and it runs wow at a decent 25-30fps

  • I have test world of warcraft, Half-life 2 mod (insurgency ONLINE) And it works very well !

Just put the Video setting on low and it works GREAT !

But yes. A laptop is not cheap if something crash.

  • Whats the GHz of your laptop?

  • 2.2 I think, but often I turn the clock rate down when gaming to stop it getting hot... I run it at 1.6 mostly for gaming, since it's the GPU doing a lot of the work. It runs even a lot better under newer versions of Wine, and Ubuntu 9.04.

  • I have absolutely 100% vanilla Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit, and it suspends to disk and ram just fine on my T61p... what model do you have?

  • I still can't get suspend to ram work on my t61p... It seems none of the distribution has solved this problem yet.

  • I'm looking for a Laptop in the $500-$600 range that will run WoW with OK quality, i don't need a top of the line notebook. Does anyone know of a laptop in that price range that will run WoW?

  • ebay $600 dual core ati 2600, pentium dual core, 2gb ram,,,15.4" screen its brand new msi laptop,,,or theres a 7600 go version from msi for $600 to

  • Mabe it's historical, but ATI has typically been a bad choice for Linux.

  • i've yet to find a driver for my nvidia 8600 gt that will actually install. I have had no issues with my ati cards.

  • In any recent Ubuntu, you go to hardware drivers, and it says "you have an Nvidia card, do you want to install the proprietary drivers"... there's no "finding" involved.

  • read my entire post. I said "find one THAT WILL INSTALL". I am quite aware nvidia has proprietary drivers but they will not install on my system. I tried more than one method of install including manually resetting x-windows.

  • If you have tried to manually install, or have installed other drivers without using the package system then the automatic installer may no-longer function, proprietary drivers are quite temperamental due to the restrictions placed on them by the vendors. I can say that any recent Ubuntu release will work out of the box with an 8600gt, infact I have an 8600gt in this laptop.

The simplest solution may be to backup your homedir and re-install (I'd wait for 10.04 now).

  • Ahh, but I'm not trying to convert the people you think I am... what I'm saying here is that for the casual user, Linux runs "enough" games, "well enough"... that it's not such a big issue as it used to be.... Hell, go and look at eve online's page... there's a Linux installer right alongside MAC and Windows...

  • i have a compq windows vist and might get a macbook in like 3 years

  • how do i get the full version of WOW on my laptop without using the discs? (i dont have a disk drive) please reply if you can help.

  • Your best bet is to get a big flash drive, or network, and copy the entire "World of Warcraft" folder from your desktop PC into the wine programs folder, and create yourself an icon that runs "wow.exe -opengl".

  • Go to wow accounts page and look for downloads, ull be redirected to download page that has a wow installer type file, its allows u to choose what type of wow game, the original and any expansion , downloads same way as with a disk, without a disk lol, looks the same, and is alot faster then downloading it from a file website, all u need is a decently speed internet and ur good to go

  • Specs? on ur com

  • I was trying out VISTA on T61p. It was pretty good at the beginning. Not like XP, 4G RAMs are displayed, and visual effects are okay. After a month, it slows down like shit... CPU fan is running all day long! Gotta be kidding me... I'm switching back to linux... haven't tried Ubuntu yet. I will install Ubuntu 8 right after my finals...

  • ubuntu sucks

  • may i ask Why?

    becus it doesnt suck..

  • i have a IBM lenovo t42p would it run wow.

    1.8gh 2gb ram????

  • I think it highly depends on what graphics card is in it... if it has any of the nvidia or ATI ones, then it's probably ok... otherwise, you might get a very low frame rate.

  • Nicely done! I have the same laptop and vista renders it basically useless. My fiance's mac is getting all the love right now. Maybe I'll give ubuntu a shot.

I'll bet you have to keep the power cord within close reach though!

  • Have you owned a Thinkpad before? If so, how do you think the T61p compares? And how do you like it in general?

  • im tryin to get my super junk laptop back and maby it will run wow

  • Amazing, but was that fan noise from ure ibm?

  • No, the fan noise is from the dual core gaming rig behind... you can just see that running wow in the background... lol

  • UR LAPTOP SUCKS MY CATS

  • if only my pc was that good :'(
