2.2 I think, but often I turn the clock rate down when gaming to stop it getting hot... I run it at 1.6 mostly for gaming, since it's the GPU doing a lot of the work. It runs even a lot better under newer versions of Wine, and Ubuntu 9.04.
I'm looking for a Laptop in the $500-$600 range that will run WoW with OK quality, i don't need a top of the line notebook. Does anyone know of a laptop in that price range that will run WoW?
In any recent Ubuntu, you go to hardware drivers, and it says "you have an Nvidia card, do you want to install the proprietary drivers"... there's no "finding" involved.
read my entire post. I said "find one THAT WILL INSTALL". I am quite aware nvidia has proprietary drivers but they will not install on my system. I tried more than one method of install including manually resetting x-windows.
If you have tried to manually install, or have installed other drivers without using the package system then the automatic installer may no-longer function, proprietary drivers are quite temperamental due to the restrictions placed on them by the vendors. I can say that any recent Ubuntu release will work out of the box with an 8600gt, infact I have an 8600gt in this laptop.
The simplest solution may be to backup your homedir and re-install (I'd wait for 10.04 now).
Ahh, but I'm not trying to convert the people you think I am... what I'm saying here is that for the casual user, Linux runs "enough" games, "well enough"... that it's not such a big issue as it used to be.... Hell, go and look at eve online's page... there's a Linux installer right alongside MAC and Windows...
Your best bet is to get a big flash drive, or network, and copy the entire "World of Warcraft" folder from your desktop PC into the wine programs folder, and create yourself an icon that runs "wow.exe -opengl".
Go to wow accounts page and look for downloads, ull be redirected to download page that has a wow installer type file, its allows u to choose what type of wow game, the original and any expansion , downloads same way as with a disk, without a disk lol, looks the same, and is alot faster then downloading it from a file website, all u need is a decently speed internet and ur good to go
I was trying out VISTA on T61p. It was pretty good at the beginning. Not like XP, 4G RAMs are displayed, and visual effects are okay. After a month, it slows down like shit... CPU fan is running all day long! Gotta be kidding me... I'm switching back to linux... haven't tried Ubuntu yet. I will install Ubuntu 8 right after my finals...
I think it highly depends on what graphics card is in it... if it has any of the nvidia or ATI ones, then it's probably ok... otherwise, you might get a very low frame rate.
Nicely done! I have the same laptop and vista renders it basically useless. My fiance's mac is getting all the love right now. Maybe I'll give ubuntu a shot.
I'll bet you have to keep the power cord within close reach though!
I got an Lenovo G560 though the trackpad succk ball. I found a way to get it work at least.

I have absolutely 100% vanilla Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit, and it suspends to disk and ram just fine on my T61p... what model do you have?
lewiar 3 years ago
I still can't get suspend to ram work on my t61p... It seems none of the distribution has solved this problem yet.

Mabe it's historical, but ATI has typically been a bad choice for Linux.

i've yet to find a driver for my nvidia 8600 gt that will actually install. I have had no issues with my ati cards.
