Would like to have heard this with original gibson p/ups, haven't heard any emg's yet that i rate, but i guess it's down to individual taste, the emg's just all sound the same to me - everyone sounds the same, i enjoy metal music but it's nice to hear some individuality amongst guitarists, 30 seconds of this sounds o.k but an hour of it would drive me nuts. Sorry man, not having a go at you - your playing is impressive enough, it's just this isn't a gibson any more it's an esp. Great amp
very much agreed. To me, EMG's just sound the same regardless of the model, and do not let the nuances of the wood tone and playing come out. great for metal, horrible for anything else, especially playing clean/ blues. Of course you can play cleans and blues with them but it wont sound as alive and organic as PAFs or a good set of alnico IIs
Thanks..it's not just me then - still, everyone to his own i suppose, i can't criticise the guy for having differen't taste, just stating a point of view, nice to know someone agrees with me.
Second: I Use a Marshall JMP 50w vintage top with a matching 4x12.. the top has new EL-34 tubes
I use this one with a 95 Gibson Les Paul Standard with classic 56 and 57+ pickups.. Do you have any suggestions for pedals if i want to have a really groowy 70's sound a'la Jimmi Page / Sir Lord Baltimore??
I just bought a Gibson Les Paul Studio. Now, what amp should i get - a VOX Valvetronix combo or a Marshall half stack around the same price? (I don't care about portability, just sound (but 95% of the time will be at household volume settings - not gigs.)
Hi there! I play a lot, both live and some serious bedroom gigging and I use Mesa Boogie and Marshall amps. For a combo I would suggest the Mesa Boogie Stiletto Ace (supposing you're into that sweet EL-34 sound). It kicks! The Express combo is great as well. If you're going for a Marshall, pick a vintage top with a matching vintage cabinet. Can be tricky making them sound like they're supposed to at bedroom levels though.
Thanks, and same to you from the windy westcoast of Norway. I play quite a lot myself. But I have given up to find the real good distortion sound. I know it is out there somewhere. Perhaps in a fine Marhall.
Me likey!

You needed more five stars. Gave you some 5s. You know. I hate to see someone actually playing that doesn't get what he deserves.
See you soon. Post more stuff, would you
