@CrispyFreshKicks Undertaker was visiting Bret to be there for him during this tragic time. Kane was the one one backstage during this to not break his character of him being the silent, scary monster during this time
Everyone want's to point fingers at people for Owen's death, but the key word in this whole thing is that it was an ACCIDENT!!! Just like the multiple injuries that happen to these wrestlers inside the ring, Owen was doing something he loved... I'm pretty sure he knew the risks just as much as we know the risks of getting in a car and taking a drive knowing that an accident could take our lives at any moment. Stop pointing fingers and instead celebrate the man's life.
@psn09yomama1997 owen's death was someones fault he didnt just fall off the rafters on his own that harness he was strapped onto failed to work so someone did their job wrong and cost owen his life
@Takersbiggestfan No, they'd planned him to be hanging from one clasp, which he was meant to open at the end to free himself, however, he probably accidentally undid it. Not to say that that wasn't illegal, he was legally meant to have support clasps etc but he didn't because it made the act less "smooth". I agree with you. Vince was a cock to make him do that without proper safety equipment. R.I.P Owen Hart!
@DESPOILER101 i think its murder in my opinion. not using equipment properly and taking short cuts is what lost his life. vince should of had his company closed down
@Takersbiggestfan I can see why you would think that, but closing the company down wouldn't have brought him back, they remembered him in the best way they could and it was a really special event, the fact Vince Russo lost the company a few years later could have been something to do with it
@DESPOILER101 closing the company down would of done alot it would of left vince pennyless and showed that he cant get away with murder. that tribute show on raw the next night was sickening to watch. the whole hart family must of been pissed off
@Takersbiggestfan Owen is just as responsible as Vince is. He could have easily said no. I don't think it's safe I can't the risk. Yes it's a tragedy that could have been prevented not only by WWF officials or Vince but could have prevented by Owen himself. Owen could have backed out but he didn't and that is why he's not here today.
@Paul8820 how is owen responsible??? you cant say no to vince as it was owen's job as his character to do things that vince and creative planned for him to do. owen would be not doing his job if he just said no to the idea of comng down from the rafters by that harness. vince has owen's blood on his hands
@Paul8820 I think you were not aware that Owen felt that he had to do it because he already said no to a previous angle that wwe creative team wanted him to do with Debra involing him having an affair. Owen refused it because he didn't want to send the wrong message to his family and his morals, so the Blu Blazer was his punishment. And after that, how many times can you say no before they quit on you and simply move on to the next guy and fire you and that stops the support to his family
@irage101 he didn't want to be fired, he wanted to be released, and Owen knew that after he was screwed after Michael's refused to do anything with Owen from what he was promised from Vince to be the savior of the Hart family and Canada, he knew he was going no where and simply wanted enough money to retire with his family so he was stuck in a position in which he was forced to do the stunt.
@irage101 he wasn't big during at the time, Vince simply didn't want Owen to leave, since he was afraid that he would go to wcw and possibly reform The Hart Foundation again back from 1997 or even worse in Vince's mind, and that was possibly make Owen a star like wwf did with Austin after his wcw experience
worst tragedy in wrestling history, though all the accidents leading to early graves for wrestlers is numerous, Owen should still be here with us, this is still unimaginable RIP
Often when someone dies, people seem to not only remember only the best about them, but remember the best better than it really was. With Owen, I believe the words about him here barely do him justice.
I'll never forget as a young fan attending house shows and waiting for wrestlers to show up and ignore requests for pics and autographs, yet Owen's response of "sure kid" and putting his arm around me for a huge hug and a big smile will last with me forever. He really was one of the good guys.

people always wondered where the undertaker was during this, he went to canada to see bret hart because they're actually close friends outside the ring
If anyone else wants to dispute me about Owen dying in the ring, here's a site that says he died while being attended to in the ring. Wrestling News Source: look up Owen Hart Tragedy.
@breannamstewart its safe to assume he died in the ring if you know what his injury was. he had a torn aorta, the artery connected to the heart. anyone who knows that should come to the conclusion that he died in the ring, probably almost instantly. b/c they were working on him in the ring for like 10 mins, and w/ his injury he wouldn't still be alive even 5 mins later. so i don't know why anyone would argue with you about that
@2hot4most thank you! thank you! I mean falling all those feet to the ring, only to hit the turnbuckle, then bounce in the middle of the ring...how are you going to do anything but die?
I dont thinkg Taker was present for this one. You know, since he is associated with death and all. Completely not appropriate, and Over the Edge should have been cancelled when this tragic event took place!
@breannamstewart no it shouldn't have. Clearly you haven't thought out the repercussions of what would happen if they did that. Besides, Owen would have wanted the show to go on.
@connordeardorff repercussions of what? the wwe having to give ppl their money back? If a person close to you dies, are you going to stop what you're doing and mourn or keep going on with life? that's crazy, that you even say that, because in the end, the Hart family still sued the WWE and THEY WON, so talk what you know.
@breannamstewart First of all, your post hardly made any sense. I think I got the gist of what you what you were trying to say, but you are so misinformed. Yes, the WWF would have lost millions of dollars in refunding people's money, not to mention lose future business because of pissed off, turned-off fans. And while the WWF was killing WCW at this point in the Monday Night Wars, they still didn't have extra millions lying around. After all, they are STILL A BUSINESS. Continued...
@connordeardorff no, you hardly make any sense. Thousands of ppl saw Owen fall to his DEATH, kids were there, why wasnt it cancelled? Taker was so out of it mentally that he had initially didnt want to do the match, even Mick Foley has criticized this move, Bret Hart who was going to WCW, said if he knew about this stunt, he would have advised Owen otherwise. The whole thing should have been cancelled, and that's my opinion, oh well, you dont like, you know what to do.
@breannamstewart Next, Owen wasn't dead on impact. His collision with the turnbuckle crushed his lungs and caused major internal bleeding. They rushed him to the hospital ASAP. Its said he died in the ambulance. Nobody got word that Owen had died until much later in the broadcast. So wrong, save for a couple matches, nobody knew he was dead. Finally, the Harts did win a lawsuit against the WWE: BUT THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH CONTINUING THE SHOW. So please, you need to "talk what you know."
@connordeardorff Owen died in the ring or the ambulance. At the time, the WWE was showing a pre taped version to the folks at home, but the audience and wreslters and everyone else saw when he died or either heard about it. And me bringing up the Hart family was in response to you saying there would have been repercussions. You are going around in circles. What repercussions? Still waiting.
@breannamstewart do you lack reading comprehension skills? Only the EMTs saw him die, or whoever else was in the ambulance. Nobody knew what happened except for management until JR was told to announce it. The repercussions would be millions of fans, while understanding the tragic circumstances, demanding their money back. And the Hart lawsuit was over the lack of planning, safety, and malfunction of the stunt; it had nothing to do with continuing the show whatsoever.
@connordeardorff the ppl there live saw it wtf are you talking about. And so what the WWE had to give ppl their money back? It's not like Owen knocked a shoulder out of place, the man died in front of countless of ppl, and if you READ Bret's autobiography, even he said Owen died BEFORE he made it to the hospital and it is A FACT that Own was pronounced dead upon arrival, so maybe you need to read.
@breannamstewart also, you clearly have no idea what you're talking about, because like Rocky said, Taker was with Bret. Do you think the WWE gives a fuck about gimmicks when a real life tragedy like this occurs? They did shoot interviews the entire goddamn night for Christs sake.
@connordeardorff and I know Taker was in Calgary on Raw is Owen, I have read Bret's autobiography cover to cover, clearly something you havent. And yes, the WWE does care about gimmicks, because it has been addressed that even if Bret and Taker werent close, they still didnt want Taker and KANE, there because of their gimmicks, and how they are linked to deaths. They didnt want Taker and Kane to be seen showing weakness. That's why Taker came out AFTER Raw went off air during Ric's retirement.
@breannamstewart I'm not going to keep going back and forth with you because you simply are not reading what I'm telling you. I TOLD YOU THAT OWEN DIED IN THE AMBULANCE. And then you say: "Owen died BEFORE he made it to the hospital" like you're trying to make a point when I had already told you that. And no, WWE does NOT care about kayfabe when all the tribute shows are shoot interviews. You don't even know what you're arguing about at this point
@connordeardorff did you read the other half of my post. I said that Bret believed Owen died in the ring, which is what I feel also. I said the show should have been cancelled, you chose to say it should have went on. Why are we arguing? Oh yeah, that's right, you choose to post stupid comments about my opinion. Then you tell me I dont know what I'm talking about when I have been a wrestling fan since I could walk. That's why we are going back and forwards. I am so over you dude. Goodbye!
@connordeardorff owen was only pronounced dead in the ambulance. they only do that when they give up trying to bring a person back (or when they arrive on the scene), not always when they actually die. it must've been 10-15 mins before they got him into the ambulance, and its hard to believe he would've still been with us for that long with that injury. unfortunately :(
@connordeardorff dude get the fuck out of here my internet pal was there live owen hart died there his blood was n the ring!!!!!!! he died wen they attempted cpr they had no response he died on the way out of the arena u get ur facts straight
Who told you that mark? Wow people really believe what they choose. He is there.H e is not allowed to break character. That's why you don't see him. The same reason you don't see him at those fake "Hall of Fame" ceremonies.
@trekfanful Both reasons are valid, from what I know, both Kane and Undertaker were told not to be there because of their characters links with death, however, Undertaker did go to see Brett Hart after Owen died.
well I think they must've changed everything for that night as raw is owen from written on mic to written on the ring's mat and everywhere at least for one night the deadman deserved it!!!
according 2 me america is just a piece of shit..they make their wives pose nude and to act in pornfilm just to make money.what kind of people are they? i mean what kind of man is who asks his wife to pose nude in front of other people..kate,angelina,torrie wilson.they all are garbage..
@Nappy1987 hey fuck you buddy this is a video is about owen hart he was a good wrestler not about you talking about america and these people were cheering for owen hart not being disrespectful to him asshole
@Nappy1987 Your such a troll and a ignorant human being I've already read countless of your comments while looking at these videos and this one confirms that if you are not a troll then you must be very very very stupid.
I know I comment on this vid alot, but I gotta admit, Owen had real balls to tell Vince no on that storyline. But both Vinces (Russo and McMahon) just couldn't take "no" for an answer. Which I find ridiculous; because all Owen wanted was to stay loyal to his wife and kids, but the two stooges (Vince Russo and VKM) just couldn't let it. Fuck you Vinces, RIP Owen.
@FirestreakRodimusPr Zip lines are different and safer, they would have had all the necessary safety attachments, unlike what WWF did with this stunt.
This is the closest you will ever see vince to tears. This hurt everyone deeply. I was watching that ppv live. And couldnt believe it when they announced his death.
@BREAKTHECODE2222009 I was on my way to walk over to my friend Ryan's house when it happened. Glad I never had to watch it live. I probably would have cried like a baby. Owen was great. If I recall, nobody watching live actually saw anything, right?
@SabbraCadabra The only people that saw it happen, were the people actually in the arena. On the live broadcast, it happened during a Blue Blazer promo spot that had been shot earlier that night and was playing on the big screens, so the live audience didn't see anything.
I didn't get into wrestling until the early 2000's so I didn't really know who he was. In the last few years I've been learning more and more about him. He seemed like such a good man. I wish I could have met him :(
R.I.P Owen. I'm going to be the best person I can so that I can meet you one day.
can all of you speculating on what you THINK happened that night please just shut the fuck up watch the damn video enjoy it and move on? getting really tired of seeing people who know nothing about the situation get on and preach as if they were next to vince and owen when this match was made.
@plumgirl1000. Martha has stated over and over again that her husband told her about the stunt, that he hated it and was very uncomfortable about doing it and was going to ask Vince if he could back out of it. She told him "don't do it then." He replied, Well I can't get out of now. I don't have a choice.
i never appreciated owen when he was in the wwf, although I was 7 when this happened, I still feel bad. Underrated, not pushed enough, and tragically had his life cut short. But he kept wrestling to the end, for us. Thank you owen, and to those who disliked it, wouldnt it have been better just to move on without leaving the crap stain u have left?
MRLClm, Martha has the perfect right to be bitter, especially since a prick like Machmon was the one that made you husband do the stunt HE DIDN'T EVEN WANT TO DO. And what does he do when your husband dies? He doesn't even inform the DAMN crowd that he's passed away, and decides to continue the show like nothing happened.
@Tornado1994 WHOA WHOA WHOA.....WTF DO YOU MEAN 'OWEN DIDN'T WANT TO DO THE STUNT!?!?' SO U MEAN 2 TELL ME THAT 4 THE LAST 12 YRS VINCE HAS LIED WHEN HE SAID OWEN DID IT ON HIS OWN!?!? SMOOTH FUCKING MOVE VINCE!!!! YOUR DUMBASS IDEA COST A MAN HIS LIFE!!!!
@plumgirl1000 Yeah! I looked at Bret and The Hart Family's reaction(s) and they said these exact words: "The tribute show "reeked of disrespect," stating, "Yes, the so-called tribute where afterward wrestlers point to their crotches and say: 'Suck it!' It makes me nauseous. And, "The accident was the inevitable outcome of 'an obsession for ratings and revenues'." TBH, I couldn't agree more with Bret and the Harts. RIP Owen, a money-loving fuck took your life. RIP Owen.... FUCK YOU VINCE!
@SandmanEnter1991 Vince is a loving money hungry jerk he has been responsible for the death of Chris Eddie and Owen and many other people he is also the reason for the death of wrestling as well wrestling sucks anymore Vince killed Wcw and Ecw and Wwe as well
R.I.P Owen i was only 7 when this happened and he wasnt one of my favorites back then but i loved to watch him.Wish he was still with us to say "Enough is enough and its time for a change" and "I am NOT a nugget". R.I.P Mr. Hart you are greatly missed. ♥
The accidental death of Owen Hart was caused by a rigged harness that would allow him to easily release himself when he got 4 feet from the ground; just to get a stupid laugh. A man lost his life for a stupid pratfall that had it been successful, no one would have even remembered a week later. That I believe is why Martha Hart is so bitter with the WWE to this day.
i was there at WWF Over the Edge my uncle took me and cousins to go see the pay-per-view person front row to see all the action when owen's i mean the blue blazer's match was about to start my cousins hear something snap loud we saw owen hart coming down with full speed owen hit the canvas real hard owen didn't even move when fell that height my family were in a state of shock when jr said that owen hart died that night the arena got so quiet u can hear a pin drop in the distant fans were crying
It seems like yesterday. When I was only 13 years old, in 1999, and I forced my friend to let me spend the night at his house on a Monday Night Raw...Just to pay respect to Owen Hart. Back when professional wrestling meant something. Back when it payed dues to the wrestling performers that think they are wrestling icons, but are nothing but current-day whores. I.E. John Cena!!!
@marcusa458 FUCK YOU YOU PIECE OF SHIT! HOW IN HELL IS THE BORING, WHEN I WAS YOUNG BACK IN THE DAY OWEN WAS MY HERO SO SHUT UP AND WATCH THE MOTHERFUCKING VIDEO. ASSHOLE
Bret's even turned against Martha now because she doesn't want the WWE to release anything related to Owen. He feels that she's trying to completely bury that part of his life, which was extremely important to him. I agree with Bret. I don't think Owen would have wanted his life's work to be disregarded because of his widow's continuing grudge against the WWE.
The Undertaker wasn't there because he was fed up with the WWF at the time and was angry about the whole Owen situation. Mick Foley quit also for awhile but ultimately decided to come back. Taker came back after awhile.
@echohead That's not why Undertaker wasn't on the show. Undertaker rarely ever does stuff like this because they're trying to protect his character. That's why you never see Taker at the Hall of Fame events (in the audience, anyway...he's certainly backstage somewhere) or when Ric Flair had his big retirement on Raw, why they waited until they were off the air for Taker to come down and hug Ric.
@STNeish I doubt he was injured, since he had just won the Heavyweight title from Stone Cold the night before at Over the Edge, but even if he were in town and not injured, he probably wouldn't have been on the show for the reason I mentioned. Plus, his gimmick isn't very tasteful for a tribute to a wrestler who just died, anyway. He was probably in Calgary, like other people mentioned. A lot of the wrestlers flew up for Owen's funeral, so he might have went a little early.
maybe 12 people found that a night of people croch chopping and shouting suck it and val venis making inuendos about his cock and perhaps a man with models pretending to be a pimp was just a little disrespectful to owen and his family!
@AppDicted umm owen is known for that stuff its was just an accident where did u hear that from i would reallyy like to know so i can see it for my self.
@AppDicted Got it right partially; it's more like, "Vince only cared about the money, RIP Owen Hart." I'm not trolling you or anything, I'm just saying my view.
You always get disrespectful douchebags yelling in a memorial silence wanting to be the voice who gets on tv.

So please, you need to "talk what you know."
connordeardorff 6 months ago
@connordeardorff Owen died in the ring or the ambulance. At the time, the WWE was showing a pre taped version to the folks at home, but the audience and wreslters and everyone else saw when he died or either heard about it. And me bringing up the Hart family was in response to you saying there would have been repercussions. You are going around in circles. What repercussions? Still waiting.
breannamstewart 6 months ago
@breannamstewart do you lack reading comprehension skills? Only the EMTs saw him die, or whoever else was in the ambulance. Nobody knew what happened except for management until JR was told to announce it. The repercussions would be millions of fans, while understanding the tragic circumstances, demanding their money back. And the Hart lawsuit was over the lack of planning, safety, and malfunction of the stunt; it had nothing to do with continuing the show whatsoever.
connordeardorff 6 months ago
@connordeardorff the ppl there live saw it wtf are you talking about. And so what the WWE had to give ppl their money back? It's not like Owen knocked a shoulder out of place, the man died in front of countless of ppl, and if you READ Bret's autobiography, even he said Owen died BEFORE he made it to the hospital and it is A FACT that Own was pronounced dead upon arrival, so maybe you need to read.
breannamstewart 6 months ago
@breannamstewart also, you clearly have no idea what you're talking about, because like Rocky said, Taker was with Bret. Do you think the WWE gives a fuck about gimmicks when a real life tragedy like this occurs? They did shoot interviews the entire goddamn night for Christs sake.
connordeardorff 6 months ago
@connordeardorff and I know Taker was in Calgary on Raw is Owen, I have read Bret's autobiography cover to cover, clearly something you havent. And yes, the WWE does care about gimmicks, because it has been addressed that even if Bret and Taker werent close, they still didnt want Taker and KANE, there because of their gimmicks, and how they are linked to deaths. They didnt want Taker and Kane to be seen showing weakness. That's why Taker came out AFTER Raw went off air during Ric's retirement.
breannamstewart 6 months ago
@breannamstewart I'm not going to keep going back and forth with you because you simply are not reading what I'm telling you. I TOLD YOU THAT OWEN DIED IN THE AMBULANCE. And then you say: "Owen died BEFORE he made it to the hospital" like you're trying to make a point when I had already told you that. And no, WWE does NOT care about kayfabe when all the tribute shows are shoot interviews. You don't even know what you're arguing about at this point
connordeardorff 6 months ago
@connordeardorff did you read the other half of my post. I said that Bret believed Owen died in the ring, which is what I feel also. I said the show should have been cancelled, you chose to say it should have went on. Why are we arguing? Oh yeah, that's right, you choose to post stupid comments about my opinion. Then you tell me I dont know what I'm talking about when I have been a wrestling fan since I could walk. That's why we are going back and forwards. I am so over you dude. Goodbye!
breannamstewart 6 months ago
@connordeardorff owen was only pronounced dead in the ambulance. they only do that when they give up trying to bring a person back (or when they arrive on the scene), not always when they actually die. it must've been 10-15 mins before they got him into the ambulance, and its hard to believe he would've still been with us for that long with that injury. unfortunately :(

@trekfanful Both reasons are valid, from what I know, both Kane and Undertaker were told not to be there because of their characters links with death, however, Undertaker did go to see Brett Hart after Owen died.

SabbraCadabra 9 months ago
@SabbraCadabra The only people that saw it happen, were the people actually in the arena. On the live broadcast, it happened during a Blue Blazer promo spot that had been shot earlier that night and was playing on the big screens, so the live audience didn't see anything.

@plumgirl1000. Martha has stated over and over again that her husband told her about the stunt, that he hated it and was very uncomfortable about doing it and was going to ask Vince if he could back out of it. She told him "don't do it then." He replied, Well I can't get out of now. I don't have a choice.

But he kept wrestling to the end, for us. Thank you owen, and to those who disliked it, wouldnt it have been better just to move on without leaving the crap stain u have left?
DB3457 10 months ago
MRLClm, Martha has the perfect right to be bitter, especially since a prick like Machmon was the one that made you husband do the stunt HE DIDN'T EVEN WANT TO DO. And what does he do when your husband dies? He doesn't even inform the DAMN crowd that he's passed away, and decides to continue the show like nothing happened.

plumgirl1000 10 months ago
SandmanEnter1991 10 months ago

datch1kp00k13 10 months ago
The accidental death of Owen Hart was caused by a rigged harness that would allow him to easily release himself when he got 4 feet from the ground; just to get a stupid laugh. A man lost his life for a stupid pratfall that had it been successful, no one would have even remembered a week later. That I believe is why Martha Hart is so bitter with the WWE to this day.

Taker came back after awhile.
echohead 1 year ago
@echohead That's not why Undertaker wasn't on the show. Undertaker rarely ever does stuff like this because they're trying to protect his character. That's why you never see Taker at the Hall of Fame events (in the audience, anyway...he's certainly backstage somewhere) or when Ric Flair had his big retirement on Raw, why they waited until they were off the air for Taker to come down and hug Ric.
Mordred5478 11 months ago
@Mordred5478 I thought 'Taker was injured at the time, and not in town there. I could be wrong though.
STNeish 11 months ago
@STNeish I doubt he was injured, since he had just won the Heavyweight title from Stone Cold the night before at Over the Edge, but even if he were in town and not injured, he probably wouldn't have been on the show for the reason I mentioned. Plus, his gimmick isn't very tasteful for a tribute to a wrestler who just died, anyway. He was probably in Calgary, like other people mentioned. A lot of the wrestlers flew up for Owen's funeral, so he might have went a little early.
Mordred5478 11 months ago
