Yeah obama being elected is a big step for racial unity and all. But MLK's message wasn't for blacks to be equal with whites. His message was worldwide peace, unity and equality. I think MLK would be proud of the fact that racial unity has come this far. But he would be dissappointed in Obama's policies for more war and suffering and hatred. Its up to the people to stop all the wars. And to realize MLK's true message. One man can't change the world.

Dr. Martin Luther King was a Republican because ut was the Democrats who fought to keep blacks in slavery and passed the discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws. The Democrats started the Ku Klux Klan to lynch and terrorize blacks. The Democrats fought to prevent the passage of every civil rights law beginning with the civil rights laws of the 1860's, and continuing with the civil rights laws of the 1950's and 1960's.

It was Republican President Dwight Eisenhower who pushed to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and sent troops to Arkansas to desegregate schools.Eisenhower also appointed Chief Justice to the U.S. Supreme Court which resulted in ending school segregation.
