  • Ben Franklin invented this shit... and surprisingly (or not surprisingly) the guy playing it actually looks like Ben Franklin.

  • Sick

  • Is it considered cheating because they're not using the glasses?

  • thumbs up if Black butler brought you here!

  • That is super adorable. Hahahahahaha.

The cameraman is trying really hard to be professional but I'm pretty sure they have stands to make up for less steady hands. :)

  • I don't know how I got here, but I watched Black Butler and I thought it sounded familiar, then I read the comments

  • if i were a modern glass blower, i wouldn't be making "pieces", i'd be making these. tchaikovsky wrote this part of the nutcracker specifically for this instrument.

  • Like if your watching this cuz of Kuroshitsuji/Black Butler

  • wow

  • Reminds me of the Harry Potter movies and games... :P

  • of wow this instrument really makes me.... feel... fly =_= i once saw this instrument on kusorhitsuji anime ahaha

  • I only came here after hearing it in kuroshitsuji :D

  • noo not papyrus

  • I GOT HERE FROM KUROSHITSUJI :D

  • This would be perfect for some Khachaturian.

  • The armonica is perfect for this piece, delicate but also eerie.

  • Freakily awesome!

  • VSAUCE!

  • I didn't know Benjamin Franklin played the Armonica!

  • @gingergiggles He invented it!

  • i seriously fan/music nerdgasmed when i saw hannah wheel that out! i was like "OMG! glass armonica~i've even read the history and myths of the instrument~ *melts with joy*"

  • like this if you were listening to glass armonica before kuroshitsuji ;P

  • @kyannakitten lol the funny thing is that I didn't even know this existed before kuroshitsuji and I almost had a heart attack when, upon searching on youtube, I actually found it! xD

  • @kyannakitten Who?

  • @kyannakitten And what's your point with this comment? Some said it,because they were either happy to hear it on Kuroshitsuji, either they didn't know it and they like it. Does it matter if they knew it long before kuroshitsuji? I think it's better that this anime made it more popular, and make the young generation listen to some good music :)For example i am extremely happy to hear such beautiful music in such a beautiful anime. <3

  • @RoxyCherryRozy i'm glad more got to find it too ^^ i was just trying to say how excited i was that it was in an anime. ya know how sometimes you'll discover somthing- then the next week it's everywhere and your just flippin out because your like "oh my god!!! i know what that is!!!!!" lol thats how it was for me so i wantd to express my excitement ^^;

  • I have avoided letting advertisements ruin this tune for me. ofc, this means no tv between Nov.1 and January 1.

  • @NagekiNoTabi

Exactly what I was thinking!!! I want sure if it was a real instrument so I looked it up. :)

  • @NagekiNo Tabi

Exactly what I was thinking! I wasn't sure if was a real instrument so I searched it.

  • friday after next

  • no its not. hannah doent play this

  • do you have to dress like Ben F to play it ???? XD JK - thanks for posting this. :)

  • Hauntingly beautiful.

  • lol.. Kuroshitsuji.

  • Added the snow effect while watching this :)

  • Santa wants a glass armonica for christmas.

  • CLICK THE SNOWFLAKE BUTTON! :D

  • @animelove2021 it turned red so what?

  • @animelove2021 Virtual snowflakes! YAAY

  • how does it work?

  • @DzaveD The wet fingers rub against the glass and cause a vibration. You can do the same thing with a good crystal wine glass. Franklin had the idea to mount the glasses horizontally on a spindle instead of having them sitting upright. Ben was always looking for more efficient ways to do things. Edgy sound isn't it? Balances exquisitely between pain and pleasure.

  • @Kilianm awsome :) thank you

  • @Kilianm you are right about pain. This instrument causes such pure tones that it actually causes permanent nerve damage in the players fingers over prolonged exposure of years. My mother's cousin was a professional armonica player. after 25 years of playing she lost feeling in her fingers and hands.

  • @Shaden0040 Sorry to read this. I know that musicians are prone to repetitive stress injuries to their hands. It's so sad.

  • is that glass thing making that high pitch noise please tell me in a reply!

  • @Wampa771 Yes. It's also what this piece was originally written for.

  • just saw this on the history channel, had to share it with friends. if i ever get my dream house (a gothic masterpiece!) this would be a lovely addition to a collection of curios. :3

not only was it beautiful, but i cracked up when i saw the uploader mentioned kuroshitsuji. xDD

  • Well, what can I say...this is tremendous...Love It!

  • Loving the fact that besides being amazing playin this instrument you know kuroshitsuji! ♥

  • He is amazing!!!!

  • little to high

  • sick

  • You are the most skilled glass harmonica player I've heard, not that I've heard that many but this was incredible. I think this song is well suited for this instrument.

  • ahhhhh murcury music magic and insanity....

  • ooo000ooo <3

  • Mister Zeitler watches Kuroshitsuji ? O_o (It's an anime, a wonderful one,i bet that's why watches it anyway) He says it in the description.

  • @RoxyCherryRozy I saw that episode and that's what made me want to look up music played with the glass armonica! XD

  • @Shadowassasin14 It;s amazing <3<3 and so the series :D

  • @RoxyCherryRozy The "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" in Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky is famous even if it doesn't appear on kuroshitsuji or anime like princess tutu.

  • @saihhak I didn't said that this anime made it popular, i just said that it was shared on Kuroshitsuji.

  • @RoxyCherryRozy

This song and the glass harmonica have been around much longer than some anime.

  • @NuggetWarmer Gosh ! So you think i was born yesterday? I KNOW it was long before. You point it's .. meaningless. I just whatch that anime because it's a wonderful one, and when i heard this i loved it,mostly because i love old things and history, and i said this just to share my thoughts , that why it is the comment page. Don't take this as a bad thing, but i felt bad because you think i didn't knew this before :(.

  • @RoxyCherryRozy MORE, Tchaikovsky was a fan! Hurrr.

  • @nortalus Lol,of course he was xD I mean, this anime happens in the victorian times right? Maybe he watched it xD

  • /watch?v=(Remove this)oQv-yiYCcoI

  • Nice

  • Nice

  • I heard that this instrument has some kind of evil energy... It said that the player and the listeners get some kind of strange sickness when they listen to the music coming from this...

  • New Goals In Life:

  • Interesting Fact: "Dance of the Sugar-Plum Fairy" was actually written for the Glass Armonica.

  • @Shangas

    Wrong

  • @Shangas That's true, and there's a few other pieces written for this instrument. However, this instrument was seldom available in many concert halls. As a result, a glockenspiel was often substituted for the part of this instrument.

  • @Ibber Thanks for the reply Ibber.

  • I love that he's dressed as Ben Franklin.

  • The Black butler was here

  • yea im bored

  • lol who came here from Black Butler II ep 6 to see if this thing was real? XD

  • Comment removed

  • This instrument is so creepy sounding. It begs to be used in a horror movie soundtrack. Love this piece, though, and it sounds nice like this- the instrument adds a different flavor to it.

  • It needs more ATTACK. ya know D:

  • This was played on Kuroshitsuji :D. Awesome series <3.

  • @RoxyCherryRozy Omg that made me look for it....how awesome isn't it!!

  • He couldn't look more like a thin ben franklin even if he had a key and kite shoved up his ass

  • i learned about this amazing instrument by watching black butler II . o: soo beautiful

  • is it me or does that guy look like a thinner Benjamin Franklin

  • Bass clairenet!!!!

  • You know when Harry Potter finds the Mirror of Erised in a dark room in Hogwarts? I always remember that or a place similar to that setting. I have no idea why... Although Harry Potter and the Philosopher's(Sorcerer's) Stone brings back some great nostalgia.

  • @blitzwaffe <3

  • So pretty

  • Reminds me of harry potter oO

  • @marscaleb

    Indeed!

  • Ben Franklin's glass armonica is what makes time-travel possible.

  • @marscaleb did you read the book "the glass harmonica"?

  • @thrumymind

No, I just read the webcomic "Spinnerette."

  • Ben Franklin ruled hard.

  • it sounds really cool!! i really like it a lot !!

     how does he/she do it??????

  • it sounds really cool!! i really like it a lot !!

  • cool i feel-ANJKBCWBWLBV *trys to hit small kid in blue shirt*

  • I wonder if someone can play Shuric Scan (a keygen) on the glass harmonica.

  • This is awesome! And YOU LOOK LIKE BEN FRANKLIN!!

I've got Ben playing keyboard in my "band" The Metal Patriots.

  • It would have been nice if the harp and the orchestra had actually tuned to the glass harmonica. I don't think he has much leeway himself. As it is they are a microtone sharp to him.

  • Is this cheating?!?!?

  • this is creepy

it makes me feel to do bad things

  • glass harp right ? mother fucker its my first time too see this kind of thing !!!

thank you youtube now i gain more knowlege

  • black butler <3

  • it reminds me of tchaikovsky

    the end

  • if u dont know the true history of the armonica demonic instroment...

  • such a beautiful instrument. i want one so bad.

  • Tchaikovsky composed Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy with the glass armonica in mind, but later changed to the celesta.

  • Amazing, it sounds perfect!!

  • Made my ears hurt :P

  • Think Tchaikovsky was gonna write it for this instrument before he changed it to celesta

  • creepy.

  • WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT THING?! IT MAKES ME NUTS!

  • @dwalkingtall I KNOW!!! What is this glass thingo?!!!? ><

  • I need one of these

  • i have never seen glasswear lined up like that and especially have that wonderful music come from it great job

  • simply amazing,,,devine sound from glass

  • Right before it showed that lady I half expected it to show Patchy the Pirate say "Welcome kids to the Spongebob Squarepants christmas special!"

  • Nice!

  • its the "dance of the sugar plum princess" ok ut it was FANTASTICO

  • Mozart wrote for glass harmonica

  • Glass armonica is now my fave instrument

  • The most epic song I heard in all my life. Always will be. I love this one. :3 The glass armonica really has the melody of the angels... Though I wonder, they said this instrument was cursed because some famous compositors died some time after playing it. Anyway, it's one hell of an instrument, I'd love to have one here. :3

  • I don't care about those damn trees...show me more of Benjamin's fingers, dammit!

  • this reminds me of fantasia <3

  • he looks pretty good for his age

  • now do harry potter

  • Ben Franklin was so great!

  • Comment removed

  • Se parece..a la cancion de Harry...

  • how......... does.......that.....work?!

  • @jasonisanewb

It's crystal glass. you can try it at home if you have a crystal glass; wet your fingertips a little bit, and then run them over the rim (top edge) of the glass. The friction over the crystal will cause a slight tremble, and the temble causes this sound :3 Different sizes/shapes in glasses will give different tones, as well as filling the glass with water.

  • Dude, what is that?

    really amazing

  • It reminds me of kuroshitsuji 2 ^_^

  • @potatoyumyum89 really? haha. omg I'm a huge fan of Kuroshitsuji and I love 'Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy'

  • Comment removed

  • @potatoyumyum89 Welp, that just made me die a little on the inside.

  • @potatoyumyum89 ....huh? =_=;

  • @IntenseFoolishness It's an anime show. I suspect you don't watch anime? :)

  • @potatoyumyum89 Oh no, I do, I just don't get the connection between that and this.

  • @IntenseFoolishness Season 2? Hannah used demon armonica...?

  • @potatoyumyum89 kuroshitsuji, right ?

is it true if listening armonica people will become rude ?

  • @narutouzumakihinatah Actualy, it WAS belived to induce insanity. around the time it was made ppl said that it could cause fights, Marital issues and some believed it could raise the dead. i dont think it could actualy do thoes things (who knows? the right song...) but if you played one back when they were first created, you could actualy go insane. the crystal/glass was usualy coated by murcury and some would lick there fingers, instead of using water, ingesting it. insanity in a bowl, basicly

  • @APCosplay eww

  • @APCosplay however this is irrevalant because most musicians are insane anyway :)

  • @1ostinspac3 you mean most artists ^___^ same difference, though

  • @APCosplay that was both creepy and cool. nice info!

  • @APCosplay You're almost right.. The glass wasn't coated with mercury, the glasses were made of lead crystal, and the colored bands were lead paint. Right idea, wrong metal.. :)

  • @APCosplay lead, not mercury.

  • @APCosplay the paint was lead

  • @APCosplay Don't forget the high lead content of the crystal to go with your mercury! (I also heard reports that the Glass Armonica could cure blindness.)

  • @APCosplay That's interesting. I heard that the stimulation of the instrumentist's finger nerves was so intense that it caused some kind of resonance in the brain, thus disturbin the mind. However, the chemical is more likely, although I'd really like to find out myself.

It's just as you said. Who knows!
