  • If you voted for Obama in 2008 to prove you weren't racist, you'll have to vote for ANYONE else in 2012 to prove you're not an idiot.

  • Here's a way to create jobs.....industrial hemp.

  • VP also visited NC and for miles and miles there were road-blocks!

What is the meaning of that?! Does civilian life mean nothing to politicians?!

That was and is very NOT-civilized, NOT-necessary, and INCONSIDERATE of other people's lives and work schedules. This alone is reason enough to vote out the current administration for misusing police for political reasons. That is totally unconstitutional!!!

    America, wake up!!!!!

  • All I Can Say Our Gov't & Him Sold The Citizens Out (NDAA), Please Don't Try To Defend It...You Have No Rights Anymore, Unless Your With Their Agendas...

Great Video BTW, Better Then That Crap They Spew On Fox.

  • If anythings posted is not a libtard bi-ass media clip it's propaganda...give me a break Libtard world.Everything posted is not necessarily what you libtards like to hear so get over it!

  • Conservatives make me laugh. The republican party today has no shame, no ideas on how to actually govern. The only thing you conservatives have is pure hatred for a U.S. President.

  • @FrankiexNYC

Here's a thought, how about you read our Constitution and then reconsider your delusions.

Many loyal Americans hate, not the man, but his unabashed, unconstrained, ignorance of our Constitution. All his "Czars" are unconstitutional. Obama repeatedly governs beyond the authority given the President under our Constitution.

According to liberals, such governing "proves" our Constitution is a "living document."

Wrong. It only proves liberals are constitutionally illiterate.

  • @rdwebster And I suppose your alternate would be a conservative republican in the White House? And I'm sure you're just OVER excited about the tea party pups in congress voting for the NDAA? Like I said, conservatrives make me laugh because they're all hypocrites.

  • @FrankiexNYC

LIke I said, read our Constitution. And childish "tea party pups" comments don't diminish the tea party ... they just diminish you. If you cannot grasp that, you are probably incapable of understanding our Constitution.

A conservative Republican in the White House would be a vast improvement over a Marxist Democrat!

  • @rdwebster The Tea Party will be no more after November. They're numbers are down significantly. Oh, and your "opinion" means nothing to me. Have a happy life.

  • The LIAR in Chief has spoken...

  • We've all been straight up SCAMMED!

  • This demagogue has to go. If he was worth half of what he thinks he's worth, he'd still be worth twice as much as everybody else.

  • You be the judge. After Obama's latest state of the union address, there

are some very troubling statements he made. You may wish to compare

the facts with what he said. I did, and I am terrified. If you are afraid of

facts, then I suggest you do not watch this.

  • Great VID

  • Someone at Cato should let Rick Santorum know saber rattling at Iran is getting us nowhere.

  • Thank you so much CATO, love it and hope to see more.

  • Thanks so much CATO! This video is a great fact checker, need more!

  • Thank you so much CATO! this video is a great fact checker.

  • Sure, let counties choose what schools to fund and perpetuate the class tax public school exclusion process...idiot

  • If only Obama could stop lying long enough to tell us one simple truth. That would be so nice. But as always it is Sameo, Sameo, Spin, Spin, Spin. He tells us only the part that supports his Socialist agenda. Sorry this is three weeks late but it is still relevant. Check out the expression on The Speakers face. He looks like he wants to find a place to be sick.

CATO Institute On Obama's State of the Union... one of the best summaries of the Obama "accomplishments" thus far.

  • I'm not a scholar, but I play one on the internets.

  • This could be done for any state of the Union Address Comeon you dont think were that dnse DO YOU!

  • @motrinpain Retard, it SHOULD be done for every state of the union address.

  • Cato Institute scholars. Right, a bunch of bought and paid for lobbyists for big oil and the insurance companies. The problem is, that without the bailout money, there was a million jobs at stake. And maybe even Ford, who didn't have to take any money, would have been effected by the supply chain going down.

Now Chrysler is back, and GM made more money in this quarter than in any time in history.

You should be standing and cheering, instead your saying it was a mistake.

  • @memorast Explain where in this video they were incorrect, bitch.

Do you know Occupy Wall Street is also against the bailouts?

Even they understand that handing money rich CEOs who made bad decisions is a bad thing.

America is overwhelmingly against the bailouts. Only you crony capitalist cunts support them.

Those million jobs would have been picked up by firms that would have gained form GM's demise.

So again, where in the video were their facts incorrect?

  • @memorast Yep, Chrysler is back, at the expense of 58% of its ownership belonging to Fiat. So even if they are lobbied (or not), are they still a non-partisan organization that offers criticisms of both sides of the aisle with factual evidence supporting their claims? I think so, at least.

  • @memorast wow where did you get your facts?? i work for the union with the big 3 and i can say recovery is far from here. not even close ohh yah my job went to shanghi china last year. the same job that has been in the union in michigan for 30 years.200 of us out of work. please dont put facts out which r wrong. my union had 12000 members 8 years ago. now half work for 5 months a year.

  • ~Hey stinken-BO, -go back to your native Kenya birthplace taking your Commie brainwashing with you! You're another subversive puppet of the nefarious warmongering Rothschild/Rockefeller Bank'ster-mafia which hyjacked our usTreasury in 1913, and immediately installed their Fed.Reserve & IRS-henchmen & ADL/Zionist Propaganda-machine which in concert with the Zionist/News-media is concealing the fact that concerned usConstitutionalists are hungry for the moral/ethical dr.RonPaul for Pres.-2012.!!!

  • This is a serious question: What's the difference between a libertarian and an anarchist?

  • @drinksmokelie The two aren't mutually exclusive; you can be a libertarian anarchist. "Libertarian" refers to someone who adheres to the principles of liberty (self-ownership, property rights, non-aggression principle etc). However, some libertarians still see a rightful place for the state. Anarchists (or at least those worth listening to), follow the principles of liberty to their logical ends; that is to say, they hold that the state is inherently coercive, and oppose its existence.

  • @drinksmokelie, The difference is in degree, not type. Anarchist = extreme libertarian.

A TRUE libertarian (which the Cato Institute is NOT, and neither is Ron Paul!) is anyone who holds that the Inherent and Unalienable RIGHTS of Natural Personhood spoken of in the Declaration of Independence is THE HIGHEST consideration in all socioeconomic and political matters.

The Cato Institute is Corporatist (aka Fascist).

    Ron Paul is a Neo-Confederate.

  • The bottom line is that Democrats are much sexier than Republicans. Who ever heard of a great piece of elephant?

  • Do any of you know what the Cato Institute is? It pretends to be a libertarian think tank, but they really function as a propaganda vehicle for the right wing. Do you trust true believers arguing with like-minded true believers? That's pretty much what those interminable debates were.

  • bomb iran now; mullahs must die

  • What if you disagree with both sides?

  • @petersoup Probably means that you're thinking. Remember a politician has a thinking end and a sitting end. Since his life depends on his seat.....why bother?

  • Comment removed

  • I have an idea: take your dicks out of Ron Paul's mouth.

  • Joke!!!!

  • If these guys have so much information, how come they dont get with Obama and work together to straighten all of this out? You'd think if you had some good ideas or answers, you would want our country to be strong. They have only one mission, get Obama out. One reason and one reason only, Cause he's BLACK. No other. I wish people would just be honest about that.

  • @zudrummer You are a fucking race baiting idiot. Where the fuck in this video are these scholars incorrect? They have been saying these things for years, and Obama hasn't listened. Did you not like Bush? Well than why the fuck didn't you get with Bush and work together to straighten it all out?

  • @zudrummer: “They have only one mission, get Obama out. One reason and one reason only, Cause he's BLACK.”

Race is indeed a primary motive for some of Obama’s opponents (far too many), but for most of them, there are other reasons they want him gone, above and beyond the color of his skin. Remember, many were supporting Herman Cain, who is far darker than Obama. Many also support Allen West, Alan Keyes, etc.

No, they’re down on Obama because he’s not a FUNDIE Christian THEOCRAT.

  • Both parties support Martial Law, bring them down.

  • If by scholars you mean their credentials are just being a libertarian and sit around getting a pile of cash for wearing a suit and shoveling Koch's shit, then sure they are scholars.

This is an absurd video. A secret list for killing american citizens? Making appointments during recesses? Going in to Libya without Congress (didn't mention it was for the UN)? Most of the comments are either BS rhetoric or leaving out important pieces that make his actions perfectly legal.

  • @jmblock2 Apparently, Res. 1441 of the UN doesn't pass your bias-slant of opinion. Obama used US Treasury and military resources to help secure oil for European Nations in Libya. He did not follow the War Powers Act and hypocritically participated in the carpetbombing of villages and civilians.

Congress was NOT in recess when Obama made his appointment of Richard Condray. "By a vote of 53 to 45, Senate Democrats were unable to close off debate to allow the confirmation to proceed"

  • @poetsluck Are you seriously arguing pro-forma sessions should be counted as work days? The definition of a recess appointment is vague and the president went ahead and clarified it. If it was unconstitutional, a suit to justice branch will figure it out, but until then, it is not unconstitutional.

  • @poetsluck Further, do some due diligence before making a fool of yourself. Read resolution 1441. It has nothing to do with Libya's situation. Almost every paragraph specifically says Iraq. But what _is_ relevant is resolution 1973.

  • @jmblock2 Explain where they are wrong, you fucking idiot. Everything they said is true.

  • WTF is wrong with John Kerry eyes ?

  • I am sick and tired of Obama breaking the law to do what he damn well pleases! As the President, he should be the example for abiding by the laws of the United States of America. Let's get him out of office before he does more damage.

  • @txtootsie : The President has ben a constitutional dictator since World War II. What FDR and Earl Warren did to Japanese Americans is a cautionary tale. Not until he was re-elected in 1944 did FED set these people free, though everyone knew they were harmless, that f their young men had behaved valiantly in the European War, were in fact some of the finest troops in the US military. Yet they were stripped of everything in clear violation of the “takings”part of the 5th Amendment.

  • Obama is a fascist dictator

  • Thank god for Obama. If it wasn't for him we would be in really really bad shape. You do know scientist have proven that conservatives are dum, prejudice, afraid to move forward by and low IQ. Published by Live Science

  • @NotMyFirstRode0

So, which flavor of koolaid is your favorite? If you haven't noticed, we ARE in bad shape, and it may get worse. Tell me, without referring to ad hominem attacks on a Libertarian thinktank, where this video is inaccurate? Furthermore, present your "Live Science," whatever that is, as proof of anyone being "dum" (it is spelled "dumb," by the way). I look forward with great anticipation for your words of wisdom.

  • @stoneyjr, And, for the record, since you’re being pedantic (nothing wrong with that!) “dumb” ≠ “stupid.” “Dumb” = “mute” = “unable to speak,” either because of physical vocal tract or brain vocal processing deficiencies, or profound deafness inhibiting learning to speak (formerly “deaf-and-dumb,” now “deaf-mute”).

  • @NotMyFirstRode0 THAT is a dumb thing to say.

  • Scumbag Obama.

  • GREAT VIDEO! It shows that this president is an unrepentant liar. He doesn't have "good intentions."

  • look it up here on you tube

  • SamSeder: Sorry Conservatives, Science Says You´re Stupid

  • In summary, Obama is full of his own sh!t.Obama just jumped the shark. NDAA, SOPA,PIPA, proposing stripping US citizens of their citizenship, openly supporting US friendly dictators while they kill their own populations, seriously wtf is next?

  • I cant wait until the moment of silence after the discontented people who commented on this video have just been nuked

  • wow ahahahaahaha still say obama 2012 ahhahahahahaha

  • @maybeso08

    You're as stupid as ObamaNation!~

  • @zeefrog tell me why the negative language

  • @zeefrog tell me why the negative language

  • Gaddafi "longest-SERVING dictator?!? The thing about dictators is that the people serve THEM

  • If he wants politicians to pay more, why doesn't he start by taking a pay cut?

  • Obama is Reagen? Really? Let's see Reagen put an end to the Soviet union, Obama panders to enemies. Reagen lowere regulations, Obama increased them. Obama attacks US energy, Reagen exploited US nergy. REagen broke a union, Obama enslaves us to Unions. Reagen idn't havea racist minister, or anti-American scum as supporters and friends. You don't make a wit of sense.

  • @heknowsitall Reagan did NOT put an end to the USSR - his misguided attempt to outspend them put our country into this deficit spiral, prolonged the Cold War and helped to indoctrinate a generation of Americans into believing America is the Greatest Nation in the world, one where to think critically usually brings a backlash full of Arrogant Ignorant Violent remarks LIKE YOURS. Also, look into Ronnie Raygun and the GOP's racist dog-whistle speeches (e.g. "welfare queens" - False)

  • All of you on this so called network SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Agree with all of the commentary except the fact that Manufacturing has left America. Start reading all the lables of everything you puchase. Most everything you buy in Walmart is from a foreign country including produce , OJ, meats.......

  • Lincoln was a dictatorial statist, no wonder Obambi is so fond of him.

  • @TheLegalImmigrant05, Have you ever thought abut what the 20th Century and later would be like if Lincoln HADN’T done what he did? Whether right or wrong, his actions enabled the USA to eventually become the world’s greatest super-power.

Even in the EXTREMELY unlikely scenario that, had the CSA won OR the USA had just let the South go, that both nations remained intact themselves and both expanded to the Pacific, neither would be a superpower today.

    (cont.)

  • @TheLegalImmigrant05, (cont.) That was the BEST CASE scenario, and as I said, it was EXTREMELY unlikely.

One thing is CERTAIN: had the CSA won OR the USA let the CSA go, the power of States to secede would’ve been FIRMLY established: by Might Makes Right in the former case, by moral principle in the latter.

That would’ve applied to BOTH the USA AND the CSA!

Do you REALLY THINK that secession would’ve stopped there, with the USA and CSA existing intact? Not bloody likely!

  • What a lying sack of shit.

  • This is great. I had to watch it twice.

  • @PrimevalDruid Me too, they said it just right lol this is why I didn't vote for him.

  • how do these authors feel about CATO's bizarre portrayal of them?

  • neal mccluskey is right on.

  • Chris Edwards is full of shit.

  • I was so inspired when he was elected, so hopeful but he showed his real character. Is he so brainwashed and stupid that he actually believes he's right? This is some very sick mental illness these people like Obama have. Who advises this idiot? My finger is going to be SLAMMING the voting machine to fire this dishonest man. Who will probably be found eventually to not even be a US citizen. This is corruption at it's peak.

  • @GeorgiaShooter at least now you woke up....."Community organizer"=lying scubag.

  • Obama is the 'rhetorician in chief'.

  • What's the probability that Malou Innocent, Chris Edwards, Neal McCluskey, Ilya Shapiro, Jerry Taylor, Dan Mitchell and Dan Ikenson are all Republicans? Probably extremely high!

  • @jaycoh56 The responses by these very well informed scholars is very accurate. When are folks like you going to finally realize that Obama is closer to the doctrine of Ronald Reagan than that of MLK. He does not represent the interest of working class Americans, the signing of the NDAA bill is all the proof you need to affirm that he is just a puppet president as was GWB.

  • @texasanarchist, I agree with your main point, but the NDAA thing is not the proof you need. The NDAA •HAD• to be signed, because it was the NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION! Had that lapsed, the ENTIRE ARMED FORCES would’ve been shut down!

Remember, the President does NOT have a line-item veto (and SHOULD not). He has to either sign or veto the ENTIRE bill! He can’t pick and choose parts to sign or veto.

A very evil amendment was attached to an ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY bill.

  • @jaycoh56 of course I'm sure they are all republicans...it doesn't matter what party they belong to when they are absolutely correct!! Stats (like those given for the number of troops in Afghanistan) are stats whether you are a democrat or republican. The fact is Obama has nothing to stand on, we have seen an increase in our National Debt, Tuition, Unemployment and Health Care Costs while he has been in office. If you are too blind to see and understand what he is doing...

  • ...go read George Oswell's Animal Farm. If you are too illiterate to read which from the ignorance of your statement wouldn't surprise me...just please don't vote EVER!!! I ask for the good of America!!!

  • Because things went so well during the Bush years! Republicans, still denial about the abomination of the Bush years. These would be non issues if it wasn't for Bush! Wake up! Put the blame where it belongs!

  • @jaycoh56 yes yes (rubs mustache), and Obama has cured everything. THEN WHY DO I HAVE NO HOME!?

  • Everything they so smuggly bring up were not faults of the current administration, but a problem that's been looming and growing much longet then 3 years.

  • @Boltmantom -- Its easy to spot an Obama supporter. The word "blame" is a regular part of their vocabulary. Blame Bush, blame the Republicans, blame the press, blame the racists. When is Obama going to be held responsible for HIS actions or lack there of? Its funny, he gets all the credit when things go his way, but none of the blame when things go wrong. Cant have it both ways.

  • Why did she attack bringing home the troops from Iraq? I know that this was the first part of the State of the Union, but really? Are you listening to her words???Of course we were forced to outsource state contractors to help stabilize Iraq during this transitional period for their citizens. She makes it sound like that wasn’t inevitable. As if with one stroke of the presidential pen and pooof we are to leave the people of Iraq after 9 years of US Military presence?

  • @Boltmantom - She didn't "attack" Obama about bringing troops home. She merely pointed out that although he did bring some home he ALSO expanded the number of troops. This is a political trick. He claimed that he brought them home (this is true), but left out the part that he sent more troops--30,000 of them (lying by omission).

  • @PrettieReptar1 Correct she didn't attack the president, she smugly misrepresented the facts in a backwards attempt to attack the president. Are you talking about the 30,000 troops he began deploying in early 2010 to Afghanistan? That was two years ago and he has made good on his promise of seeing out the mission and bringing the troops in increments. 10,000 more are coming home in September and all plan to be out in 2014. Is that not a reasonable goal?

  • Iraq: (roughly)

    2009 140,000 troops; 2011 3,000 troops. Net change (137,000)

    Afghanistan (roughly)

    2009 31,000 troops; 2011 91,000 troops Net change +60,000

  • @PrettieReptar1 I did not realize that is the number of troops added to Afghanistan under Obama, but it still is a Net change of 77,000 troops brought home is it not?

  • Comment removed

  • @Boltmantom Explain where she misrepresented the facts. You can't because you are wrong, bitch. Accept it. Making excuses fort Obama sending in troops? Fucking idiot. He lobbied for the Iraqi government to keep troops in, that's a fact. He expanded U.S. military presence across the Persian Gulf, that's a fact.

  • @itachi705 Wow, you are such an eloquent writer. I never said he didn't expand US military presence in the United States. I would say that has been trending upward since the early 80's. And why all the hostility? It's not as if YOU are backing up anything with facts or citation. Get off your soap box and join the conversation. Or just cuss, call names and stomp your feet like you were back on the playground.

  • @Boltmantom

"I never said he didn't expand US military presence in the United States"

Neither did I, I said he expanded it across the Persian Gulf. LOL.

  • @itachi705 LOL Touche'

  • @SecurityAlertsNow Oh and the Muslims, if you look at History were pretty content with other people's religious beliefs. You just had to pay if you were a different religion. Could be worse. Remember Christianity has killed more people than any other religion combined. Have you ever read the Koran dipshit? Probably not considering you can't form coherent sentences.

  • @AnimasSummonedPain -- if they were content with other religions then why did they make unbelievers pay a "protection tax"? That makes no sense.

  • @SecurityAlertsNow You're a nut bag. What the hell are you even saying? Israelis stole that land from the Palestinians b/c the west said it was ok. How's that fair? If Israel is blown to shit, then the arabs can fight among themselves and kill eachother off. Bam. Hopefully by then we'll be done with oil.

  • @itachi705 Insult me if you want. but this State of the Union, like every other it's wasn't about wrong or right. It was a plan of action of what is going to be addressed by the current administration in the following year.

I'm not fact checking every single thing they say and I'm not trying to pretend that I know it all. The point I am making is that they are misrepresenting the truth to manipulate what Obama said in the first place. Wake up

  • @Boltmantom - So highlight the errors please.

  • @Boltmantom -- If you aren't going to check the facts, then how do you know Obama told the truth or that "they" are lying?

  • @PrettieReptar1 Always ! thats what pro-liars do, they lie their asses off and smile for the camara

  • @PrettieReptar1 Who said I am not, wasn't or am not going to 'check the facts?

  • If people would put half the energy on addressing issues, speaking truths and managing their own lives as they do on speaking against the president, holy-cow imagine!

I question my boss all the time. If I didn’t I wouldn’t be doing my job. But if I were to back talk everything, spread venom and perform poorly… Then it’s time to fire my ass.

God bless the United States of America!

  • I’m just curious, since we are all speaking truths. Did you truly watch and engage the entire State of the Union address by the president of our country. I hope so, but I’m not sure how in any earthly scenario you would be influenced by a 9 minute spin piece rebutting the State of the Union and the president’s message. The enemy is not the president.

  • @Boltmantom Please explain where they were wrong in this video. You are a blind moron.

  • Yes, we can

  • Comment removed

  • ***^^^***President Obama your STATE_OF_THE_UNION address was AS ALWAYS well executed. ......................It's time however to add ACTION to your words.............................. WE understand that with an OBSTRUCTIONIST congress NOTHING can be done. ELIMINATING THE FILIBUSTER AND PROSECUTING_WALLSTREET_CRIMINALS COULD & SHOULD BE DONE................. WE expect NO CONCESSIONS & NO HALF MEASURES BECAUSE WE DO NOT WANT TO LIVE IN A FASCIST__ REPUBLICAN__ NATION.

  • @poindexterwitkowsky Were you raised Red Diaper or did you get hooked on the Leftist Plantation Kool-ade? And, thanks for all the all-caps; we really need that, schmuck.

  • @poindexterwitkowsky You're a fucking idiot.

  • Some good points are made by CATO here.

  • @SecurityAlertsNow I heard the myth about him being racist and insane, but reading the Quran... really? xDD

  • Idiotic responses to a great speech by idiotic republicans who do nothing to help this man push for the poor and middle classes. It gets sickening enough watching the wife cheater and the spoiled millionaire debate in the primaries without these silly men commenting on such a beautiful SOU address. Get a clue, conservatives, Obama's going to wipe you in 2012.

  • @Mondayrose1 The Cato Institute is a Libertarian organization, not Republican. They don't like Gingrich either. But as for the SOU address, this video proves most of it is BS.

  • @SecurityAlertsNow how is he a racist? he supported martin luther king and rosa parks along with other civil right activists. He is against the fact that african americans are arrested disproportion-ally to whites when it comes to drug use, even though whites and african americans have equal numbers when it actually comes to drug use.

  • The information shared here, is evidence of the those that believe that America, does NOT HAVE OTHER AMERICAN'S BACK! No wonder we think government is broken. We have people like this don't talk to the president they talk behind the administrator's back. It bothers me when two party systems, cannot work any longer. I don't agree with any position here, and I'm an independant.

  • @melistentome

Does "having somebody's back" mean sticking a knife in it, and stealing the money they worked for?? THANK GOD the Republicans are doing all they can to stop Obama. That is what they were elected to do in the landslide election last November. All the Pubs who won ran on a platform of stopping the insane Democrat spending and efforts to smash the country.

  • Great video.

  • Why do they think education costs have skyrocketed? IT'S BECAUSE OF GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION! Not that hard to understand. Same thing with healthcare. When the gov't pays for healthcare, doctors and hospitals charge whatever they want because gov't will pay it.

  • 1) CATO is right about education. I've seen much of the research myself, which shows that Govt. intervention increases school tuition costs.

    2) Manufacturing never left? They're right about that as well. Manufacturing hasn't left, America is still #2 in terms of Manufacturing in the Global Marketplace. We've seen very few physically available jobs actually be shipped out of the country. Only a few companies have actually done so. They're right that the higher corporate tax rates contribute.

  • And for some of you: RON PAUL SUCKS. RICK SANTORUM 12'!

  • @ZmanHot:

Ron Paul is actually the best candidate for this election.

  • @FreeMenDieFree To you, and his normally quite insane following.

  • CATO has some valid points, I hate Obama, he's a liar and a fraud. But CATO is way too right wing for me. If we had protectionist tarriffs we could keep our money in this country, invest in automation and free energy and the cost of living would go way down and our quality of life way up.

Jill Stein of the Green Party for President. Look her up and see her State of the Union for the People

  • @Victorforsythe the only companies that want protectionism are the ones that fear outside competition of same quality but lower prices. Sugar and steel for example, sure you want to keep the jobs there. No competition, that could cause prices for products made by those 2 components to be stagnant or heck even rise! At the cost of keeping a job in a protected sector which spreads out to hurt consumer choices on how much they want to pay for a product.

  • at 2:06 did that guy get beat up? and if so, by who?!?!

  • Cato is one of the most blatant examples of "simulated rationality", as described in Phil Agre's The Crisis of Public Reason. Arguments need only be plausibly rational to an uninformed listener. Only a tiny percentage will notice that they are being misled. That's all that's needed to manage public opinion. PROPAGANDA

  • @NotMyFirstRode0

You are absolutely correct. However, you cannot simply make these arguments to deny the facts pointed out in the video. Lobbying the federal government for someone's interest is a constitutional right and is perfectly legitimate. On the other hand, it's the powers given by the federal government and it's corruption that lead to lobbyists being such a powerful influence. Lobbying has been around forever, always will be, always should be.

  • Cato was also for the Iraq war

  • CATO is part of the conservative movement and are not for the people for example

Cato Institute, heavily funded by tobacco companies, hired Levy and Marimont to denounce statistics about smoking related deaths.

Cato was also for the Iraq

Media giants also use Cato to lobby Congress for corporate welfare and legal monopolization.

Read Sierra Magazine's article detailing the corporate financing of anti-environmental propaganda from thinktanks like Cato

  • @NotMyFirstRode0 What do those Ad-hominem attacks on Cato have anything to do with this kick ass rebuttal of Obama's phony rhetoric?

  • One person's gaining wealth, doesn't deprive another of gaining similar wealth. There's NOT just one big pie out there to dig in to. It's all a matter of the ability to gain wealth...often governed by how capable the person is of doing so. Not capable? Take a look at your educational systems and consider the serious impact the left has had on their demise.

  • @mbar275 Why is there even an argument about education? Statistics show we are doing a miserable job. Passing billions from state to the fed who eats up 50% in the process, and returns money back to the states with all kinds of strings attached that consistantly prove not to work. How illogical is that? Let the state keep the money, toss the Dept. of Ed. In every case we have proven that competition in education makes smarter kids. Look at the New Zealand example, they turned it around.

  • Just remember this cato (republican) think tank was all for the war in Iraq...how quickly we forget

  • @NotMyFirstRode0 NOTE: And so were the majority in Congress. What liberals forget is that when all the lefties in Congress were supporting the Bush and the Iraw move that videotape was running. Welcome to the information age. You no longer can change history when it is on tape.

  • this all looks and sounds very legitimate but it isn't. these are a bunch of government haters. the less power the government YOU vote for has, the more power these million and billionaires get. DO NOT BE FOOLED.

  • @RichieW Big business and monopoly will scarcely exist in a system with a lt'd government. Government intervention is what allows for governments to grow - look back at the Progressive Era in the US. Magnates like Carnegie and Rockefeller weren't opposed to government intervention in the economy - they begged and lobbied for it to protect their own "to big to fail" firms.

Barack Obama wanted bigger and more bailouts. Cato doesn't. You really think gov't is in your corner?

  • @Jordoom777 Government intervention is what allows for governments to grow* Change that 2nd "governments" to "corporations.

  • @Jordoom777 We at least have some say in who our government is. without it huge private companies would fill the power vacuum and essentially become a tyrannical power unto themselves. I've read the libertarian arguments, I know them well. I completely disagree with its dogmas.

I in no way think what we have at the moment is perfect. not even close, however, I'm not willing to chuck the baby out with the bath water to make a bunch of billionaires more rich and more powerful than they are now.

  • @RichieW You have a say in which companies you give your money too, though. Do you have a say on whether or not you pay taxes? Money given to companies is freely given, and is always, or almost always, mutually-beneficial. Businesses only lobby gov't so much because gov't has so much power, because it subsidizes and gives tax breaks and picks winners and losers. If gov't was ltd., it would be a huge waste of money to lobby it, right?

  • @Jordoom777 yes, I know the argument, who stops companies from polluting? who looks after worker rights? The market? I don&#
