are you sure that is not coming through the VHT? Man that pretty metal for that little thing! Is that just straight into the amp distortion with no help?
Pretty cool. Overall it's good, tight and growl. Something I hear in these Badcats is that rasp in the distortion. It's a little ragged and fizzy like buzz saw-ish like some solid state amp distortion. I guess it's good for this type of chugga chugga dropped style.
@patbateman13 Sorry missed this...they are EL34's - JJ KT-77's in this clip which are an equivalent. I've thrown 6L6 in there a time or 2 when recording for a different tone. I prefer 34's over all though.
that sounds wicked! I might be lucky enough to be able to pick up one of these badboys cheap soon... if you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for yours?
no matter how hard i try i still can't get this tone right =[.... however i'm trying to model it on pc with softwares, still the best tone ever heard in my whole life...
Dude don't mind the ignorant comments. Most of these kids probably don't even know the level of craftsmanship Bad Cat amps are at. Sweet tight tone and you're lucky to have such an awesome true Boutique amp.
Lol, Mesas suck. I finally was able to ditch my triple rectifier a few months back on ebay. No clarity at all, way overpriced. My Engl powerball killed that shitty mesa. I haven't played on the bad cat yet, but they sounded huge, heavy and clear when I checked out Baroness opening up for Mastodon last week. Mesas are big time overrated. Only amp that I've had and disliked more was a Laney.
I bought it 2002 and it was around $2000. This is before they had reverb, loop, mid switch and 5 way tone selector(on clean chan). The hot cat 30R has all that stuff, which mine does not.
sounds really good !! but how loud do you have to run the head to get it sounding like that ? does the power amp need to be cranked or is it more from the preamp ?
The gain you hear is from the preamp, you can get similar tones at bedroom level volumes. It is fairly loud in the clip so you're probably hearing some power tube saturation too. Turning it up obviously sounds better but you don't need to crank it to get high gain
awsome tone. im trying to accomplish sort of the same tone you have with my plexitube which is decent but how loud is your b cat 30 compared to your pitbull?? does the b cat sound more hi def with the handwiring than a modern amp? it does to me.......... incredible modern tone bro!
Thanks! The Bad cat is loud for 30W. I'd gig the Bad cat around noon on the volume and the VHT around 10:00. Keep in mind this video is recorded with a condenser mic and sm57 where the VHT is just the camera mic. That makes a huge difference. I don't think its so much the wiring, but more the overall design differences between the amps. The Bad cat does have a very "present", right there sorta tone. Its more open and less compressed than some modern amps.
i like clean, blues, crunch, and ear splitting grind. i like to play them all, too. nice to hear more of the "boutique" amps being pushed over the edge.
I could give a shit less what you think of "my use" of the amp. The only fool is one who conforms to the ideas of what "should be" and doens't explore all that something has to offer....
Obviously its a high gain amp....I use it for that - the only fool is you.
Well, long story but... I changed a ton of stuff in my live rig at the same time as I got this pickup. I'm still in the process of getting the rig tweaked and tuned in for my tones. I decided to switch the stock pickup back in for awhile because I was used to it and familar with it. Once I get everything locked down, I'll throw the Godwood back in to see how it sits and responds in my band mix...that's the most important place for me - that it sounds and feels right in that setting.
Yeah, I've never been into pedals much for my overdriven tone. I much prefer an amp that give the tone I want to hear without stacking on top of it. It just sounds better to me most of the time. I've heard plenty of guys get great tones using OD pedals, but it's just not for me really. I have never used or felt the need to use pedals with this amp, but to each, their own.
couldn't agree more. it bugs me a bit to see someone with a soldano or an orange or a marshall with a pedal board the size of a coffee table. that said, i understand that everyone has their own take on "their" tone and how to get it.
don't get me wrong, I do love effects and have quite a few. I'm just not big on OD's and fuzzes. it's all about how their used though, most just don't do much. I occasionally kick on an xotic ac booster to saturate on a solo, or push a clean. just not part of my main tone.
Very good example man! This is what I've been needing to do to demo my amp as well. This gives a much better impression of the actual tone quality of these magnificent amps!
I'm gonna try to get a clean clip done sometime this week as well. Maybe something with an Xotic AC booster or something with a different style dirty tone.
I love the WCR pickups

good stuff man. you can get the best metal tones at of non metal amps. its all about the tone and the craftsman ship, not the brootlz.

Great heavy sound man. I thank everyday that my bad cat 30r came into my life. Its a versatile amp too! Absolute, blissful, clean channel.

I really enjoyed that tone. It's not heavy as andrewface mentioned, it's more of a clean dirt. Well that's what my ears think. Really nice. Thanks

OH MY GOD. So much of heavier music today is typically riddled with shitty guitar tones, but this rig sounds freaking immaculate.

not a bad heavy sound at all for a tone amp..
I continue to be impressed by this amp..

HarrisonMathis 3 years ago
Gain around 1:00, Edge - 2:00, Level - wide open, Bass & Treble both between 1 and 2:00, Brilliance 3:00ish and Master probably @ 9:00.
Those may not be exact, but should be close.
