  • Hola culeros soy nuevo

  • how you make it waterproof?? isn't there any water comming trough the shaft going trough the hull where the driveshafts for the props are??

  • @alpinemanlover The brass tubes are oversized for the shaft, running in bushings on either end. They're filled with marine grease (a lot of it), which prevents water from coming in to the hull. The fill tubes are kind of hard to see in the vid, but they're sticking up vertical just in front of the universal joints. I believe I made the ends above the waterline just to be sure.

  • @Error4O1 thank you verry much for the quick response, I hope you'll have much fun with RC in the future

    greetings

  • @Error4O1 Thats a really good idea to put fill tubes, iv'e never thought of that. Nice thinking there haha

  • esto mola carnal, felicidades por la adquicision :)

  • stas pendejo con tu pinche video toto

  • @Raziel8287

Yeah, ran that through google translate, and well, fuck you too. Some real big talk from someone who has zero vids posted. you buthurt or something? or just pendejo yourself?

  • Any shots of your Mr. Darby? I built the original Dumas kit 10 yr. ago and used their gear reduction and motor kit...retrofitting now with 3700 Pittmans in direct drive, using a couple of Astroflight ESC I had around.

  • @MrJOHNdx - Unfortunately no. Since this was filmed, I've moved and have not had a chance to build more on the Darby. Hopefully I'll get back to work on it in the near future. Thanks for viewing and commenting.

  • no gear reduction with those?

  • No, the guys at Harbor Models suggested the Pitman's running direct. The couplers I think are from small parts. I don't remember the specifics on the couplers (been about a year since I last worked on it), but the account for alignment and offset in the shaft lines.

  • Have you ever used the Dumas Mechanical speed controls before? If so how do they work I'm looking at putting one in a project that I'm working on of a Great Lakes Commercial fishing vessel.

  • We originally got the "stock" power system for the Darby. IMO, it sucks. I can't remember the model number for the esc's we got, but I can check. We did however get the upgraded power system from Harbor Models. I haven't worked on the Darby in quite a while (it was a project I worked on w/ my dad, who died in September).

  • Sorry to hear about your dad? And thanks for your opinion about the stock power system. The model I'm building is only going to have a single motor and ESC so I'm looking for opinions and options on which ESC and motor I should use? I'm not new to modeling just new to electrics that's all. I'm actually a Nitro/ Gas guy but since I'm building a working vessel a nitro would be too much! Well Thank you for your input and great job on the MR. Darby by the way!

  • Thanks. Nitro, good times, good times...

Here's what I can tell you about the stock Dumas power setup. The ESC's are basically a linear rheostat that requires a servo to actuate. Very old technology that can be prone to corrosion and shorts in a wet environment (electronic esc's as well, but they're sealed better than the older mechanical ones). The drive train itself (Dumas) is made from stamped brass gears that are supported on only one side. IMO this sets up two problems in the long..

  • I robbed the motor out of my shaft starter and and then emailed th guys at HPI and they said that the motor is a 550 and that their new SC-15 ESC would work just fine with the motor. But thanks again on the info I'll still value it as valuable info. I haven't started building my boat yet I'm still shopping around for different parts and pieces and then I'll go from there! Thanks again though and happy sailing!
