As one who never really was a Michael Jackson fan, I am totally blown away by this performance. You can see at 1:04 in Sammy's soulful eyes just how special this is, and their embrace at the end is... well, if you can watch this without crying, then you just aren't human.
The people who think MJ was having sex with childen must be lobotomized. He was such a sensual and fragile man. In this he shows so much emotions that it touches my heart also.
I love it when two great men kiss. It really is nice, doesn't happen often enough. God bless them both, and He does. Two men willing to be hero's. They created all they did with light alone. Amazing when you think about it. These men disciplined themselves into riotous glow. They loved beyond their own self interest. When you do this, you expose yourself to the littleness in others. Oftentimes this is a rough ride. This is what makes any one willing to share Truth of themselves, higher'n me.
@cameronstl It was written specifically for Sammy. I believe Michael said he would only perform it that one time. It was a personal gift to Sammy for what he endured and the doors he opened. I mean you never hear about Sammy's contributions, yet he was arguably the greatest allround talent of the 20th century in the field of entertainment. Many of his contemproaries thought so. It was nice that the biggest star in the world had the foresight to honor him in this way, shortly before he died.
I have commented before but im here to say again that MJ deserved more than he got. He didnt deserve the crap that people said about him. To me this was a dedication to him and sammie. Love and miss them both.
Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep, I am the thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glint on snow, I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain, I am the shining star at night, When you awake to the morning light. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there, I do not die, So hear these words that here I say, I am the love that guides your way.
Oh man, this makes me miss Michael even more now. His beautiful eyes staring out into the audience just make my heart melt. OMG, here come the tears LOL.
Wow! That crowd is crazy for MJ. This is when he was at the height of his glory. I loved it at the end when he puckers his lips and does that famous pose. Sammy was in heaven!!!
I don't like fanboy comments. But in all honesty I've not heard a better voice than MJ's. It's even better than Sammy's, and he was hard to beat. Sammy along with the Rat Pack was probably a better gig, but MJ could seriously put on a show. Shame MJ didn't get the same natural lifespan as Sammy, and spent so much of it putting up with shit.
er war so ein schöner und liebevoller Mann es ist wirklich sehr schade und unfassbar das er nicht mehr da ist.Ich werde ihn nie vergessen und immer in meinem Herzen tragen.R.I.P Michael Jackson
ya kno, as messed up as a life as MJ had, he was truly a beautiful singer, and i believe that with him, died the true art of performing. back then, you could go to a concert and truly get a show. i feel that now, that is basically gone
Micheal what a legend everytime now i get tears in my eyes every time i hear you sing. You were the greatest and so were you Sammy Davis Jnr. Both of you rest in peace we will never forget you.
On the shoulders of Giants. Artists like Sammy Davis, Jr. and James Brown paved a way for our Michael to shine so brightly. Now Michael took it to a higher level to pave a way for today's artists.
These great showmen are gone now but their legacies will last for generations. So take a bow in Heaven my brothers for a JOB WELL DONE. Rest from thy loved employ: The battle fought, the victory won, Enter thy Master's joy.
words just arent enough to explain this beauty, passion, honor, kindness, LOVE, just exuding from within his soul, like the brightest, most beautiful glowing light i've ever seen, so powerul that it ignites my soul. and now shining so bright, exploding with love and happiness in Heaven.
An absolutely beautiful song sung by an angelic voice. A completely transfixed audience. An emotional honoree. What a perfect moment. And Michael Jackson decides to end the peformance by grabbing his CROTCH???. *shakes head*
So Evan Chandler is dead for his family i offer my thoughts, But did you give a thought to MJ,s family when he pssed ?? I,m guessing not so i hope yur family thinks about its actions over the years and both people can rest in peace
You can tell Michael was getting his dose of good eating, it looked like he had a small double chin forming lol...but he still looked goood! Man I wish he would come back. I sttill can't believe he's gone. He for represented a time in my life when I was young, having fun, and not having adult responsibilities, like bills and such...ugh bring MJ back!
This was in 1990. They year before Michael released DANGEROUS. This show won an Emmy Award. This was an amazing production. I beleive over 20 million people viwed this show on the night. Eddie Murphy was the host.
I think they didn't need words to share feelings, memories or thoughts. They could read each others minds. And it's always phenomenal when one Genius shows his respect to another Genius!!
@IrishPersonDeadly He has one in the video. You can see it under his chin. You're right, he was always thin, but in later years, the under part of his chin was tighter.. and it wasn't a double chin
Yes, Sammie did open doors for other black entertainers.
Did you know that back in the day, when Sammie would be performing at a hotel.. he was not allowed to stay at that hotel because he was black. He had to stay somewhere else, perform, then go. So ridiculous!!!
Oh yes, all those people helped open the door. My mom had told me about Sammy Davis.. how he wasn't allowed to stay at the hotels he'd perform in. He had to go to "black" area hotels. It's so outrageous! I love MJ's performance here. This song is short, but has quite a meaning. rip mj ily.
Hoofhearted321...it is so sad, but it is so true. My mom used to tell me that she'd have to sit on the back of the bus--back in the day. She's gone to heaven now, but she said that Sammy Davis Jr. & Dorthy Dandridge opened a lot of doors in entertainment--just so that fools like Lil Wayne can disrespect us now...its a shame. MJ opened a lot of doors for young blacks too...but its so sad he doesnt get the REAL RECOGNITION he deserves...maybe one day he will...**sigh**
Ebbiesart: I know.. I'm caucasian, but back in my mom's day, she remembers the segregation. And even back then, she couldn't understand it. She hated it. And she (and my dad) raised us to understand how horribly black people were treated. Yes, I believe Sammy (and others) got their foot in the door.. then kicked it open for other black entertainers to walk through. Michael was also one who took that door off its hinges.
Hoofhearted321...thanks. So many others were treated so cruely back then, & today its still the same in a sense. The media hunted MJ like he was an animal. And when MJ died, I remember hearing some of the older white folks at my job saying "Im glad that black molester died". It really hurt my soul, because MJ was human. He made mistakes, just like we all do. He enjoyed simpler things, & its just astonshing to hear people, even in his death, ridicule him. Hes gone now, they should let him RIP.
Ebbie: Oh, I agree! they did hunt him like an animal. It was sickening. It hurts me too when I hear people or read posts of hateful things about MJ or saying they're glad he's dead. I run a business, and when MJ died, I was so upset, and if a customer said anything negative.. I'd let em have it (politely of course! lol). And now with Evan Chandler committing suicide.. that speaks volumes about MJ's innocense (as if we didn't know!).
WIniver: Yes, Evan (the father who accused MJ), has committed suicide. I believe he shot himself
in the head.
He unfortunately didn't leave a note. However, my opinion is... having Michael's blood on his
hands was too much to bear.
THey say he was really sick, so maybe that's why. But I'm not so sure. I'm actually not surprised he committed suicide.. I'm surprised it took this long.
As one who never really was a Michael Jackson fan, I am totally blown away by this performance. You can see at 1:04 in Sammy's soulful eyes just how special this is, and their embrace at the end is... well, if you can watch this without crying, then you just aren't human.

He unfortunately didn't leave a note. However, my opinion is... having Michael's blood on his
hands was too much to bear.
THey say he was really sick, so maybe that's why. But I'm not so sure. I'm actually not surprised he committed suicide.. I'm surprised it took this long.
