Sure secularism caused many deaths.
However, most wasn't caused because of a non-religious or anti-religion standpoint. Religion was not the core. The major religious conflicts, however, always tend to mix their mutable lunatic fallacies that they believe are coming from God himself, and use them as a tool to dispose of any moral standard. It becomes a holly war.

What Hamas has done to Israel provides no justification for the Viciuos retribution and terrorising of civilians. It was disgustingly predictable that the slaughter in Gaza would cease before the inaguration of Barak Obama. Hopefully this is the last 'hurrah' of neocon - likudite stupidity, unfortunately at the cost of most likely 1500 killed & 4000 injured human beings.

Foothold? Foothold for what? Also, we can't discount the psychological impact of the Hamas rockets on the Israeli people - I'm sure the fear of being killed by rockets is very traumatising. I believe that the civilians within range of Hamas rockets nerves were frayed from years of insecurity and it is understandable that they would want the problem 'sorted' - anyone would.

Anybody that defends barbaric actions like these by Israel needs to study the history and occupation of Palestine by Israel. Then you will understand why any rockets were fired. Far more Palestinians have died as a result of Israel's occupation of Gaza than those killed by the "thousands of rockets" which have killed a whole 10 Israelies - is THAT justification to kill 1200 innocent people?
