@airhoppz I've heard this a lot from my male friends. They have given up b/c there is just so much pain and hatred in so many black women's hearts that it's too much work trying to get close to them. This is certainly not exclusive to African Americans. This is widespread amoung all races. My daughter has struggled with this all her life.....she is in her 30's now and still gets upset and depressed. It's hard to understand why your father (and all his relatives of which there were MANY) don't feel the need to be part of your life. She thinks that she did something wrong, or she's not good enough. I have let her know that THEY did something wrong, and THEY are not good enough.

I know exactly how she feels. When I was 18 I broke down like that too. Up until that point I had done a good job of convincing myself that my father, who would go years at a time without contacting me, really did love me. I made excuses for him and I rationalized why he wasn't there. I last saw him 3 yrs ago...for the first time in 8 yrs. He gave me 5 min of conversation and left. That hurt so bad. Now I don't know about YOUR situation, but in most situations I've seen, that's how it is.
Yeah there are some "good men", who later turn to pricks, but those are some "man bites dog"-type exceptions.
So what I say to adults is; BE RESPONSIBLE! Otherwise your children will pay the price for your bad decisions. But men should also rally together & challenge the corrupt family court system that makes it hard for men to be there for their children.

Tupac's father was a deadbeat but his mother raised him to be very respectful towards women eventhough she was attracted to guys that were no good when she had Tupac. So throughout his childhood, Tupac being as polite to women as possible. However, his approach did not pay off when he tried to talk to girls. So he became the same type of guy that he used to criticized.

The fatherless are sad, broken hearted. lack self esteem and are bitter. The AA community is devastated by this and as a grandmother of a grand child who does not have her Dad in her life, I am also hurt. When are we going to return to God as a people and recognize the family unit must be restored?

My dad is a very accomplished man. He came from a two parent home, and should have known better, but he was a horrible parent. Furthermore, this highly accomplished man went on to father four more children all of whom he does not care for. My dad has never been in prison. He has a college education and served in the united states military for nearly 40yrs. Not every dead beat is some thug.

Great point. I can also relate to you. My Dad was a lawyer with a PhD. Very successful. He raised me and my brothers as a single father for years. Despite all of this, he was a very angry and verbally abusive person. Once he met his new girlfriend, he damn near never even came home because he was so pussy-whipped. He would buy his girlfriends kids expensive gifts and take them places, while we got nothing. I'm 29 now, and I think if he was not around I wouldve been better off.

Not ever abandoned child is abandoned due to premarital sex. There are dads that leave their wives and children behind. Rather it's the pressure of taking care of a family, no longer wanting to take care of a family, leaving the wife for another woman or divorce in general.
From the POV of a woman raised without a father, My Father had no excuse to being absent from my life and I am sure MANY fathers do not as well. As a child my mother opened every possible door for him to see, speak, or spend time with me but he rarely took advantage of the opportunity. My mother may have been wrong in her choice of who she had a child with but I will always believe when a responsibility presents itself you are supposed to take care of it. No excuses.

This is very sad and heartbreaking. I have stepchildren who have been lied to all their lives by their Mother. She's bitter the relationship ended and became even worse when I came into the picture. My husband always provided for his kids - yet they were taken to goodwill for clothes while she bought herself whatever she wanted. Now they are grown they are mad at him. This is certainly not exclusive to African Americans. This is widespread amoung all races. My daughter has struggled with this all her life.....she is in her 30's now and still gets upset and depressed. It's hard to understand why your father (and all his relatives of which there were MANY) don't feel the need to be part of your life. I have to say that i understand what this young girl is going thru. I myself grew up without my father, but i don't shed any tears. He was never part of my life enough to have an impact on me. I'm a mother of three girls who I am mother and father to. So the cycle repeats. My mother never kept me from him, he ran when he would see me on the streets so in my case he is a poor excuse. Up until that point I had done a good job of convincing myself that my father, who would go years at a time without contacting me, really did love me. Yeah there are some "good men", who later turn to pricks, but those are some "man bites dog"-type exceptions.

Some friends of mine are going through that with their "baby-mama's".& there ain't much they can do because here in the UK, like in the US, the family court system is anti-male.

@BeachChairz Yep. I see this occur far too often. As a matter of fact, I can use Tupac Shakur's life as a perfect example. Tupac's father was a deadbeat but his mother raised him to be very respectful towards women eventhough she was attracted to guys that were no good when she had Tupac. So throughout his childhood, Tupac being as polite to women as possible. However, his approach did not pay off when he tried to talk to girls. So he became the same type of guy that he used to criticized.

My dad is a very accomplished man. He came from a two parent home, and should have known better, but he was a horrible parent. Furthermore, this highly accomplished man went on to father four more children all of whom he does not care for. My dad has never been in prison. He has a college education and served in the united states military for nearly 40yrs. Not every dead beat is some thug.

Great point. I can also relate to you. My Dad was a lawyer with a PhD. Very successful. He raised me and my brothers as a single father for years. Despite all of this, he was a very angry and verbally abusive person. Once he met his new girlfriend, he damn near never even came home because he was so pussy-whipped. He would buy his girlfriends kids expensive gifts and take them places, while we got nothing. I'm 29 now, and I think if he was not around I wouldve been better off.

Not ever abandoned child is abandoned due to premarital sex. There are dads that leave their wives and children behind. From the POV of a woman raised without a father, My Father had no excuse to being absent from my life and I am sure MANY fathers do not as well. As a child my mother opened every possible door for him to see, speak, or spend time with me but he rarely took advantage of the opportunity. My mother may have been wrong in her choice of who she had a child with but I will always believe when a responsibility presents itself you are supposed to take care of it. No excuses.

This is very sad and heartbreaking. I have stepchildren who have been lied to all their lives by their Mother. She's bitter the relationship ended and became even worse when I came into the picture. My husband always provided for his kids - yet they were taken to goodwill for clothes while she bought herself whatever she wanted. Now they are grown they are mad at him. She's trashed him every way she could yet He never wanted to tell them the gore of what really went down but I think it's time.

Most will never know and don't want to even think about it. my girls dont have their bio dads around but my family, myself, and my husband have been making sure that they feel secure and know they are loved, looked after and their hierarchy of needs are being met as much as possibe ; although, they will probably feel some type of void, they are nowhere near as emotionally distraught as this girl. objective/subjective data tells me this girl has deeper issues in her home (neglect + abuse) and she is more saddened that her dad wont rescue her from pain.

Some women will pick a thug over an educated man...but I won't! Don't generalize all black women pls:)

@dalishus09 It is a cop out. Your reson is assuming that these women knew that they were no good. Some trick the women into being good then after marriage they get bored and start cheating and then not being their for the children like the poor mom is. Not all of them are thugs, they're educated too! (like my dad)

@BlackEnergyNews I definitely agree with you. Some men let their resentment and unwant for the Mother to spill over on to the child and they genuinely have "no love" for their own offspring. This is how they really feel. Its pathetic. I personally feel a man like that should seek counseling and or experience an intervention.
