Alot of STF guys have/had previous SADF experience, many of them from Koevoet, it was a natural progression from war - time Koevoet to civilian ops in SAP, Its a wrong assumption to think alot of STF guys are made up of Ex-Recces.

Its not the Recce's style, they're not the Rambos people would like to think of them, instead these guys can be found accross the world providing training, Columbia, Siera Leone, Iraq ect, but make no mistake they'll kill you very quickly if need be

the unit actually started prior to the anc coming to power, since 1994 a lot of them have left and joined the private sector. it is a police unit that trains or did train with the sas. i used to work with an ex member in london

The STF look an exceptional unit, and are very similar to the British SAS in the way they go about business, especially in terms of hostage rescue. It wouldn't surprise me if if they consist of former SA Recces, as they set the benchmark for tough military forces, which the STF seem to be based on.

The S.A.T.F. r not a military one. They r, like SWAT in America, a special branch of the police. In a recent poll, which conducted by the UK they were voted the worlds top special forces unit. My personal opinion is that it is likely that there is a SAS influence, paricularly considering the ties between the two countries. I would argue though that the S.A.T.F. at the moment are a stronger force than the SAS. Not because of training or selection but merely because they get alot more action.

People will say you cant compare but in some aspects you can because both carry out similar type operations. thats my opinion...

In the past we fought a big war against communists and alot of our experience in that war is carried over into todays spec ops. If it were 15 years ago, I would say that our special forces would be equal to the best in the world but sadly that has all crumbled now.
