  • I'm worried this video will get someone killed -- some poor hapless Darwin Award runner-up will try it, explode him(her)self and win the grand prize.

  • this was made back in 1901 lol during tesla and edison.....

  • How do i take it down??? O_o

  • @Superabound1013 ...lol, you never know

  • congrats in advance for your darwin award

(your relatives can use it for decoration after you tried this thing the first time on a high voltage cable :-)

  • And how do I get the device back once I hang it on the wires?

  • So it can only be used for 220VAC, but it's meant for when the spec ops are in remote areas where the voltage is huge in order to transmit well? If you're somewhere where it's already 220, then you have access to an outlet.

In order for this to be functional they would have to make the system able to step down any voltage.

  • i was wondering how to steal power

  • I thought most special ops was over seas. Has this company done any research for overseas power sources. Oh wait. This looks like a method that our own government can take over us as american citizens if shit hits the fan, oh and the shit will hit the fan. one more reason to get off the grid; hence, no incoming power lines. the military and all those higher ups, cia, for one and other high power, not seen agencies are a few steps from controlling us using our payed military to do it!! beware

  • @ambiguous1011 or you can stay on the grind, and have the power line burried underground. If this was to be used in Britain, then the spec opps would be screwed completly, as all our power lines are under ground, except the high voltages ones and you really don't wont to be touching them.

  • these guys have never heard of induction. i am fucking disappoint. fucking retards getting tax dollars

  • @Sirus20x6

Yes, im sure they have heard of induction... but it would not work in this case.

in order to get any power from the power line. the induction ring you would have to carry would be huge and heavy.. also it would require you to spread the 3 wire bundle by hand and attach the ring to it. Also it would require power to be flowing inside the building the power line is connected to also the amount of current and voltage you would get would be very low. induction coil set is too small

  • @zbeast what??? there are thousands of volts there induction seems like the perfect answer. also you can have the coil next to the wire instead of around it and still get a flow

  • these guys have never heard of induction. i am fucking disappoint

  • Nothing new here

  • If anyone happens to use one of these over the high voltage line it will probably result in instant death. A device like this can only be used between someones house and the transformer after the voltage has been lowered. Not in the jungle where the power lines are likely to be many thousands of volts.

  • why not use induction instead of cutting into the wire? (maybe I've forgotten all my electrical stuff...)

  • So if you're in the jungle, and there happens to be a 7200V residential area power supply overhead, and you can't just use a socket, and you manage to throw that unreliable thing over the cable, and by some miracle it works, then you're in luck.

What a waste of taxpayers' money, this is nothing new, just a stupid idea easily executed by anyone with any technical knowledge.

Induction would would be a better solution, no damage, you could get the right voltage more easily, etc..

  • @Bogman247

you can't connect this to a 7200V line. you would die!!!!

this ment for connection only to the 220vac line that links down to homes.

  • Yeah, many flaws... A, anywhere the voltage is low enough to use this, chances are there are other means of tapping the lines.. B, how do you get it off, C, there are house lines in the jungles and desserts? D, this is criminal damage and theft..

  • @MCol3man

you're right. "Only in America", but as we know, it's prototype. In example, in Poland we usually have simple, 4-wired power lines (3 + 1 ground), so as we see, it's hard to use in Poland and many East Europe countries because dude in this vid should use 2 devices and it's harder to steal the power with two devices. 230V between ground and phase, and 400V between phases.

    So, good luck Mr Coates.

  • So basically you damage the distribution lines and steal electrical power.

  • @raoul4 In a life and death situation where you need the power I think they wouldn't be too bothered about stripping a tiny, razor thin slice of the insulation away from the wire

  • what about the birds that stand on power lines?

  • it lokks like it easily would work very well in the U.S. or in countries w/ different voltage set ups or in places w/o insulation on the line ... those objections seem silly.

what is interesting is that in most of the civilized world they bury power lines unlike the ugly above ground set up we have in the U.S. seems like it will work anywhere.

i wanna know about the rectifier that is in place .... can it really work at voltages between 700K and 7k? or is it only below 8,000 volts or so.

  • @kiely They say it works with the line feeding your house. So 240V.

  • How you gonna find a powerline in the middle of the jungle?

  • Are ppl retarded saying where this will be used? THEY ASKED FOR IT TO BE USED LIKE THIS! Of course they know where to use it. It wasn't the engineer that said only with power lines they WANTED it to be used with power lines.

  • The most fail I've ever seen.. hopefully not a lot of funding went into this. Where the fuck are you going to see a power line in the middle of a jungle or desert where you most need it? You aren't.. that's because POWER LINES do not run where there's no populace. Wow.. what kind of retard thought of this?

  • I guarantee you that someone that watched this is about to go throw something on their power lines and kill their selves.

  • seems like it would be a pain in the ass to get the hook thing off the wire, especially with you need to GTFO.

  • how about some spidy web

  • nicely done im sure

    it'll help the special forces

  • WTF, this is retarded, you know how much replacing a high voltage line costs, let alone finding where it's broken

  • Thanks everyone for your comments - glad to see all the different thoughts on this. Since this is such a brief video we aren't able to include all the details we might like - but I'll definitely follow up and try to answer as many questions about this tech as possible.

    -LabTV

  • Listen to Cooley Mac'n

  • holy shit i live in dayton well kettering

  • Ересь! откуда в пустыне линии электро передач?

  • @spxnezzar exactly

  • So....it's meant to be used in places that are too remote for a receptacle to be used? Then that would mean those locations would most likely be where the line voltages are at 14.4KV or higher. This thing smells of fail. Or barbeque.

  • it works great in extreme conditions like the desert!

yes. in the middle of the desert near ALL the powerlines...

  • ...to meet an engineer who is harnessing electricity from power lines...

OMG that has never been done before!

    /s

  • I'm pretty sure if the police saw you doing this they would arrest you.

  • @hoboX10 Yea I can imagine a group of armed soldiers charging up their equipment using this and a police officer stopping his car nearby, getting out and demanding that they all lay down their weapons so that he can arrest them all. That would definitely 100% work, soldiers always abide by the law no matter what hostile country that they are in. They may be engaged in espionage behind enemy lines, but when a native policeman comes over they know they must respect the law and hand themselves in..

  • this is more fun to watch with the vuvuzelas on

  • it also appears to only be meant for the low voltage lines in neighborhood areas. proper transmission lines would arc over or be super dangerous for the user.

  • What happens when the device is removed and the hole in the insulation corrodes? even if the device is never removed I'm sure moisture will get in and eventually cause problems.

  • 2 things.

    1. He never showed how to unhook it. so once hooked seems to stay there. 1 lost batarang.

    2. 0:17 i wonder if the guy was black the vocabulary would be changed instead of harnessing to stealing electricity.

  • I want one!!!!!!!!!!!! XD

  • @themeloninc alright yeah those Spec Ops should just die because there night vision goggles dont have power anymore, pff dont waste your life on me O_o

  • wow... amazing! but... oh, oh! if I find, what are the chances of finding cables that the fase and neutral are stick together? this stuff only works with both of then together AND the neutral wire must be bare... this is not so much flexible for emergency situations!

  • watch some poor soldier out in the field use one of these, then have trouble getting it down, so he yanks it and cuts the entire cable.

  • @jiberish001 i know right? as if theres going 2 be power lines in the middle of nowhere lol

  • induction would be more efficient, less of a hazard risk too.

  • "And that can mean alot when you're in the jungle or the desert, miles away from an electrical outlet." LMFAO

  • So, the US military is openly advertising that it steals power from privately owned power lines? Way to go America, steal from others!

  • @themeloninc taking that power does no harm at all....., you don't get charged for it.

and if they are privately owned power lines, the Special Ops are on your terrain? You must be some kind of drugsdealer or dictator...

  • @KodessR It costs money to produce electricity. It hurts those who produce the power. Also, MOST electricity is bought from private providers... as in companies. Although some cities produce their own, but it's not a public service... you PAY for electricity. Secretly taking something that others pay for is usually called stealing. Sometimes it's called theft...

  • I need that for my calculator!

  • Let me know who buys this, because I have a bridge to hawaii that I've been trying to sell for years.

  • the jungle?

  • ok now how do you get it off?..

  • @demonwx10 Hehe... that's what I was thinking about... How do you get the gadget off the power lines? And also, why would you need it in the jungle or the desert, there aren't really any power lines there...

  • ok now how do you get it off?

  • haha! .... you'll find they've been doing this in the 3rd world (india/pakistan etc) for years... induction :)

russian pencil vs nasa pen anyone?!!!

    much nicer packaging though...

  • Very informational and entertaining!
