  • So sad, so very talented.....my heart goes out to those who that knew him.

  • was moose realy keeping his charcoals sharp when he creates the cloudy atmosphere around his portraits , or was this not often done in his pictures

  • @cardellacole4 Infact he used certain areas of the drawing surface as a kind of temporary palette, charged with pure black and white;he could then dip into these areas with the stump and "paint" the portrait as if with a brush.

Finally ,when the faces were fihished,Moose would then transform these areas into a sort of atmospheric- romantic background by blending.

  • i really should stop by that place next time i go to Paris. i hardly ever approach other artists when they're working or on the lookout for customers. i'm not shy at all but i just always felt they were grumpy/cynical and didn't want to communicate with anyone who isn't either a customer or a group member. but after seing your videos i think i might be wrong, some of these guys seem really nice and might not mind a fellow artist's presence even when working, and if i don't try i'll never know.

  • hi davy, and to think you portraitists are called hawkers, how disgusting , that was realy touching, this answers your video 'what is art' , You can see the uncomfortable loss in his closest friends eyes and jestures, and his poetic statement and plea, gave me shrills ,that is art , and threw your video, i feel ive been spoken to by an artist, as if i was there, thank you. I learned a few new words 'monmartrois' and La belle Epoch, and of course Mustapha Salmi 'moose' ,a great video, perfect

  • Pour un peintre de la Place-Du-Tertre comme moi qui ne connaissaient pas Moustafa de près mais qui souhaitaient connaître cet ancien portraitiste de Montmartre, c' est un bon moyen de découvrir son histoire. Merci Davy.

  • I check your channel everyday for new videos, and it's always a delight when you've posted a new one. You're videos have triggered an inner "Renaissance" in my artwork. An enlightenment if you will, and cleared the clutter BS I had been being fed from others around me. And although the subject of this video is rather grave, I enjoyed it as well. His name will live forever through his work. I would love to speak with you further, if you ever get the chance.

  • "When an old person dies, a library is burnt to the ground." But he wasn't an old man. He was quite young, which makes his passing very distressful. But based on the comments made by those who knew him, he was very gifted. And he did in fact take a library of talents and future contributions with him when he passed away. My heart goes out to all who knew and loved him.

Davy- If it's not too personal, was it disease that took Mustapha?

  • @shysterlicious the big 'C'...cancer of the oesophagus

  • Davy, I'm sorry you have lost your friend. If you keep him in your minds and hearts he will never be completely gone. Toute en ronde, if that makes sense. Bonnes souhaites to you and your community. Vive les artistes! :-)

  • Bravo Davy; bel hommage. Encore Bravo!!!!!

  • The Pl. du Tertre can be a Jungle and it can sometimes bring the worst out of even the nicest people , but " Moos", always stayed a gentleman and he was a good

    artist too
