@smammy08 There is nothing harder in all of sport than trying to hit a round ball coming at you at 95 miles an hour with a round bat and trying to hit it square enough to go for 400 feet homerun. If you want to argue that soccer players are in better cardiovascular shape, I'll give you that. However, the hand eye coordination required to play baseball is unmatched in all other sports. All sports require athletic ability that are unique to that particular sport.
@x001m69 have YOU ever hit a 95 mile an hour fast ball? its not hard. its not about eye hand coordination, its about timing. you time your swing to hit the ball. eye hand coordination is what goalies in hockey need to stop a 125 mile an hour puck going straight at their shoulder. I love baseball but you dont need to be that skilled to play it.
@smammy08 I have not hit a 95 mile an hour fast ball because I've never faced a pitcher that threw that hard. I did play collegiate baseball. Timing is important, but for you to say that eye hand coordination is not required in baseball proves you have no idea what your talking about. You simply want to argue and are too proud to to be objective. You can have the best timing in the world and still miss the ball if you can't find it with your eye and be able to put the
@smammy08 Lets see, hockey goalies stop the vast majority of shots that come to them. A basketball player hits 50% of his shots and will be a hall of famer. I quarterback is considered good if he is completing 60-65% of his passes. A major league baseball player fails 70% of the time over his career as a hitter and will be considered for the hall of famer. Statistics don't lie. Google Ted Williams hand eye coordination and see what you find.
@smammy08 I have played soccer, basketball, football, tennis along with baseball and I can tell you from my own personal experience, baseball was the hardest to master. I can see there are skills in other sports that baseball players do not have because they don't need them. I'm sure athletes in other sports are stronger (football), more flexible (Gymnastics) and have more endurance(soccer, basketball), but no sport requires more hand eye coordination than baseball.
@x001m69 Regarding the other skills, I only meant that baseball players do not need them to the level athletes in other sports do. Baseball players are strong, flexible and have endurance but not to the degree that athletes in other sports do. Hand eye coordination is the one skill that professional baseball players must develop to perform at an elite level.
@x001m69 putting the bat on the ball is not eye hand. its accuracy and timing and bat location. baseball players fail 70% of the time because not every pitch is in the same location. i never SAID it wasn't required. what im saying is that you dont need to be the greatest at eye hand coordination to succeed. you're probably one of these guys that also believe that steroids dont help you hit home runs
@smammy08 The ability to "accurately" put the bat in the right "location" is precisely hand eye coordination. The skill to do that is a coordination of your eyes with where you are swinging the bat. Your comment about pitches not being in same location supports my position to the difficulty of the sport. Steriods do in fact help players hit homeruns because the strength they gain causes what would be routine fly balls for most players get pushed out of park by the juiced athletes.
@x001m69 Steroids don't help a players ability with skills to hit the ball, but does help them hit it further when they do make contact. So they may average more homeruns because of the juice, not because of an increased ability in hitting. This is why steroids have been so damaging to the sports integrity.
@smammy08 You must have a different definition for hand eye coordination because what you just described is hand eye coordination to just about everyone I have been in contact with in all my years playing the sport. I played in youth leagues growing up, high school varsity, babe ruth all-stars, American Legion ball and college. I played all levels accept for professional. Was never drafted.
@smammy08 BS. Zdeno Chara holds the Slap Shot contest record at 105 mph, with a skate up. Goalies stop Slap Shots at maybe 80 mph because they don't get the skate up unless its an obvious break away.
Molitor was a great hitter, no question. But although it's a little early to tell, Mauer might be even better. The coming years will tell the tale. God bless 'em both:)--
I had a similar problem with throwing. I played for years and after I stopped, I somehow forgot how to throw. Just try to break things down step by step and go back to the basics. Once you get better, your old instincts should kick in and you should be fine.
Speaking about high school baseball. im on my way to high school and i was wondering to play on the team do you have had to have played in a little league before or anything similar?
and ive also heard that to play in college baseball and the majors you had to play in a little league team first.
If you have a good training routine and a positive work ethic you can develop into a good athlete, and you will be able to eventually play at the high school level. However, most coaches out there suck and do not develop athletes properly. This can be a disadvantage to you, but if you are careful of who you listen to then you can actually use this as an advantage. Playing little league only matters in early development, but there is no reason you can't play high school/college.
@SadegoGG You are correct. coaches at little league and other youth league come into the position thinking they are coaching major leaguers. Its sad that they coach to win rather than coach to develop the most talent they can. I saw it last summer in my son's league. I was manager and butted heads with my assistant who had mindset to win games. I wanted to win to, but realized there may be boys on team that aren't good now, but could be if they were worked with.
I don't even think it's that. A majority of coaches don't manage the game efficiently, don't know how to utilize players, teach poor mechanics if they even touch that aspect of the game at all, run terrible practices, don't teach proper strength and conditioning if at all, don't teach hitters how to see the ball properly if at all, do a terrible job teaching the mental aspects of the game, etc...
It's really sad. I agree youth sports are not about winning as much as development.
@x001m69 I think it is better to have a coach that wants to win...If you're wondering why, it's because they will put the bad batters last, and if you are one of the last batters obviously you need to get better. This probably helps most kids, like me. Im on the New York all-star team. when I played in little league i wasn't that good.. but now I am because i knew that i needed to train everyday to be that lead-off batter I am now.
@PyroButt09 There is no requirement that you play at one level prior to moving up to another. In high school, you simply have to be good enough to make the team. Keeping in mind that many high school players have played little league ball, if you haven't you may be at a disadvantage. However, they will cut you only if you are not good enough, not because you hadn't played little league.
I agree its just like the Griffey Tee. If Griffey took his game swing to that monstrosity of a device he's smash it in two. I like this a lot more than the Griffey tee.
No Major League hitter swings down to the ball in an over hand motion. Even Joe Mauer does not do this. Just look at his you tube hitting video. Lunch, you are a great guy but very wrong on this idea. There is no power to this myth of hitting.
@beastlybombers alot of pro hitter do this, you just dont notice it, because they swing so fast. Also, there is power to swinging like this, and you will get more nice hits if you swing like this. Power comes with how strong you are.
@beastlybombers IF by overhand motion, you mean like a tomahawk chop, I agree with you. When I played collegiate baseball ball, my coach constantly preached, "bottom half of the bat to top half of the ball" In doing so, he believed more line drives would be hit rather than lazy pop flys. I'm sure everyone has different opinion on hitting, but I can tell you it worked for me.
Most of the other "miracle swing" products are cheap pieces of crap that are only endorsed by major leaugers cause they get a fat endorsment check. Joe Mauer's dad invented this thing, all his kids played pro ball his youngest son Joe is arguably the best hitter in baseball and his dad taght them all how to hit. I coach J.V. Baseball and this thing is somthing I might actualy buy. Plus we have gone through 3 tees.
I have a question: If you bat and it hits the pitchers forehead, will that go against me? Like will i get the blame for it? Like after you hit the baseball, and it hits the pitchers forehead (the ball goes straight, not up) will i get the blame for it? Beacuse i was playing baseball with my 5- year old brother, and he threw the baseball, I hit it, and it hit his forehead. It left a bruise. just please answer my question. thanks.
Yes you will be blamed. Sorry my answer couldn't have been more favorable - but there is no other way to put. 100% blame. Now, had you been using the Quickswing (patent pending) - there would be no need to use your little brother and risk his forehead injury (hence no blame).
@magicain258 lol u r funny. R u like 7 or 8? If you are older than that i would give you a spankin for hitting your little brother. If u r 11 or older ur gettin the belt and grounded for a week no magic. you will have to read spelling books by the end of the week you will spell magician right lol. let me stop you might be 8 i would feel bad.
@magicain258 This is Officer Danny McCallahan-O'Reilly-O'Leary of the police. I demand that you turn yourself in immediately to the authorities for this unspeakable act of violence against your brother. If you don't turn yourself in, we will find you and put you in kid prison, and your brother will get your room.
@magicain258 i would not say tht you will be blamed for it! anyone on or near the baseball field has a chance of getting hit by the ball! if you are just learning how to play baseball and you hit the ball to the pitcher, thats means you hit it square up and that's good!! i was pitching to my niece and she hit me in the eye (she's 8) i gave her a high five and told her to do it again! but next time get an older pitcher because your brother is young to know how to react to a ball hit back to him.
@bored7743 Yeah, he does have a stiff front leg at contact. The poster on my sons wall it is way after contact and it looks like he had gone way done to hit an low outside ball to the off field...

Google Ted Williams hand eye coordination and see what you find.
x001m69 1 year ago
@smammy08 I have played soccer, basketball, football, tennis along with baseball and I can tell you from my own personal experience, baseball was the hardest to master. I can see there are skills in other sports that baseball players do not have because they don't need them. I'm sure athletes in other sports are stronger (football), more flexible (Gymnastics) and have more endurance(soccer, basketball), but no sport requires more hand eye coordination than baseball.
x001m69 1 year ago
@x001m69 Regarding the other skills, I only meant that baseball players do not need them to the level athletes in other sports do. Baseball players are strong, flexible and have endurance but not to the degree that athletes in other sports do. Hand eye coordination is the one skill that professional baseball players must develop to perform at an elite level.
x001m69 1 year ago
@x001m69 putting the bat on the ball is not eye hand. its accuracy and timing and bat location. baseball players fail 70% of the time because not every pitch is in the same location. i never SAID it wasn't required. what im saying is that you dont need to be the greatest at eye hand coordination to succeed. you're probably one of these guys that also believe that steroids dont help you hit home runs
smammy08 1 year ago
@smammy08 The ability to "accurately" put the bat in the right "location" is precisely hand eye coordination. The skill to do that is a coordination of your eyes with where you are swinging the bat. Your comment about pitches not being in same location supports my position to the difficulty of the sport. Steriods do in fact help players hit homeruns because the strength they gain causes what would be routine fly balls for most players get pushed out of park by the juiced athletes.
x001m69 1 year ago
@x001m69 Steroids don't help a players ability with skills to hit the ball, but does help them hit it further when they do make contact. So they may average more homeruns because of the juice, not because of an increased ability in hitting. This is why steroids have been so damaging to the sports integrity.
x001m69 1 year ago
@smammy08 You must have a different definition for hand eye coordination because what you just described is hand eye coordination to just about everyone I have been in contact with in all my years playing the sport. I played in youth leagues growing up, high school varsity, babe ruth all-stars, American Legion ball and college. I played all levels accept for professional. Was never drafted.

@Nepalm9 bullshit. look up the puck that went straight through the net this year.135 mph
smammy08 1 year ago
@smammy08 BS. Zdeno Chara holds the Slap Shot contest record at 105 mph, with a skate up. Goalies stop Slap Shots at maybe 80 mph because they don't get the skate up unless its an obvious break away.

vaironxxrd 1 year ago
I had a similar problem with throwing. I played for years and after I stopped, I somehow forgot how to throw. Just try to break things down step by step and go back to the basics. Once you get better, your old instincts should kick in and you should be fine.

Speaking about high school baseball. im on my way to high school and i was wondering to play on the team do you have had to have played in a little league before or anything similar?
and ive also heard that to play in college baseball and the majors you had to play in a little league team first.
is that also true??
thanks in advance to anyone
PyroButt09 1 year ago
@PyroButt09
SadegoGG 1 year ago
@SadegoGG You are correct. coaches at little league and other youth league come into the position thinking they are coaching major leaguers. Its sad that they coach to win rather than coach to develop the most talent they can. I saw it last summer in my son's league. I was manager and butted heads with my assistant who had mindset to win games. I wanted to win to, but realized there may be boys on team that aren't good now, but could be if they were worked with.
x001m69 1 year ago
@x001m69
SadegoGG 1 year ago
@x001m69 I think it is better to have a coach that wants to win...If you're wondering why, it's because they will put the bad batters last, and if you are one of the last batters obviously you need to get better. This probably helps most kids, like me. Im on the New York all-star team. when I played in little league i wasn't that good.. but now I am because i knew that i needed to train everyday to be that lead-off batter I am now.

PyroButt09 1 year ago
@PyroButt09 There is no requirement that you play at one level prior to moving up to another. In high school, you simply have to be good enough to make the team. Keeping in mind that many high school players have played little league ball, if you haven't you may be at a disadvantage. However, they will cut you only if you are not good enough, not because you hadn't played little league.

why buy this when you can just make it yourself?
prestonpelfrey 2 years ago
@prestonpelfrey
Why would you buy it when their teaching hitting mechanics differently than they actually swing? These guys can't teach hitting...

There is no power to this myth of hitting.
beastlybombers 2 years ago
@beastlybombers alot of pro hitter do this, you just dont notice it, because they swing so fast. Also, there is power to swinging like this, and you will get more nice hits if you swing like this. Power comes with how strong you are.
soxfan95aw 1 year ago
@beastlybombers IF by overhand motion, you mean like a tomahawk chop, I agree with you. When I played collegiate baseball ball, my coach constantly preached, "bottom half of the bat to top half of the ball" In doing so, he believed more line drives would be hit rather than lazy pop flys. I'm sure everyone has different opinion on hitting, but I can tell you it worked for me.
x001m69 1 year ago

If you don't turn yourself in, we will find you and put you in kid prison, and your brother will get your room.
patzer469 1 year ago
@magicain258 i would not say tht you will be blamed for it! anyone on or near the baseball field has a chance of getting hit by the ball! if you are just learning how to play baseball and you hit the ball to the pitcher, thats means you hit it square up and that's good!! i was pitching to my niece and she hit me in the eye (she's 8) i gave her a high five and told her to do it again! but next time get an older pitcher because your brother is young to know how to react to a ball hit back to him.
