This song makes me think of one thing: that very moment moment when you get out of the Lincoln Tunnel and New York City just hits you smack in the face.
the disco the disco the disco... was at an awesome gig at st jeromes one night after the races a few moons back, had a surprise visit from one of the members from avalanches on the decks... what a night... the patio was jumping and bouncing til last drinks...
Can someone tell me what song the beat from 0:04 to 0:37 is from, and I don't mean Tell me When You Need it Again by the Isley Brothers. I offer a thousand thanks.
I have no idea what the actual sample is, but at 1:24 on "Close to You" (the song, not this video), the brief vocal sample that is used sounds exactly the same as the one used at 1:03 on DJ Shadow's "Organ Donor." Any thoughts? Just noticed while I was listening to Endtroducing.
been listenin to avalanches for a while i had them on my ipod all the time when i was going to college an walking through the city in dc great music and thanks for the upload
@stellarshore Very well put, this album is one of the greatest albums ever made, and I think you nailed an explanation. There is this dream-like quality throughout the entire record that never lets up. Simply incredible.
I try to imagine what it would be like to mix a song like this myself, and the sheer amount of time and effort needed to mix a song like this becomes apparent to me.
thats my favorite part too. but i looked up the lyrics the first part doesnt add up to it. theres a tense young man going around turnin the joint outside down
Thanks so much for posting this. I was just reading the November 2002 issue of British magazine Sound on Sound. Wonderful and detailed article on how they create their music. The complexity of how they put it all together (Midi Mutes! Just insane) inspired me to have a listen, so thank you for posting this. I'll be getting the CDs from Amazon soon.
Yeah, that piano sample at 3.35, it's a killer disco track. One of my big regrets is passing that over in a big stack of vinyl I was listening to at a record shop (probably cos the other 12 tracks on the comp were average or nothing special).

The correct sample lyrics are a mixture of the following...
"...close to you..."
"...glass got me right..."
"...stop to the midnight..."
"...on to the disco..."
"There's a gentleman that's goin' 'round, turnin' the joint upside-down."
