Grunge people includes the guys from Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and the like. Everyone in those bands is pretty damn talented, oh and Foo Fighters is NOT grunge.

And I really do believe Alice in Chais only used that label for having better chance of succes in that time.

You have to make real music, if it is simple, it's ok, but it must be creative... now to make something poorly created and totally out of tune, hurting the ears, only because you are louzy and lazy player and want a excuse to continue like that, that's not being good player.

@whoisthatguy1000 You know, a lot of people prefer rock and roll from before the 90's because it had rock and roll feeling... you know the solos also made rock and roll? And all the blues-based stuff. It was simple in the beggining, but it was not poorly done, and the notes they played, they made them sound beutiful... But most grunge (and also dave grohl) don't care about the way they play.

@whoisthatguy1000 The problem of most of the grunge, and things that came after (like foo fighters) is that they don't know shit about how is a rock and roll music made, they think it will be rock and roll only because it has heavy distortion and a power chord. They don't know the roots, they can't play some blues if somebody asked them, they simply don't have the rock and roll feeling cos they're not rockers... even punk had the feeling, and they don't.

@daniel2B watch some of their live videos. I went to see them in MK and they did a 12-15 minute version of monkey wrench when he played one of the best solos i've ever heard and then there is stacked actors where he has a guitar battle with Chris shiflett that is EPIC

@daniel2B Yeah, I have a similar opinion on the guitar in Foo Fighters, but as for the whole grunge thing: Grunge is one of the best things to have ever happened in music. Grunge people includes the guys from Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and the like. Everyone in those bands is pretty damn talented, oh and Foo Fighters is NOT grunge.

@reubidoo I agree with you in this, those bands are really not like that, but they're not who most influenced the rest of the music in the 90's. The bands that followed were all with lazy players based on nirvana... like nickelback, papa roach, creed, and getting away out of gunge style, foo fighters, linkin park, korn... none was like peral jam or alice in chains. And I really do believe Alice in Chais only used that label for having better chance of succes in that time.

@daniel2B Nickelback, Papa Roach and Creed are definitely not grunge, and Alice in Chains is pretty much the epitome of grunge. If anything (related to grunge) Nickelback, Papa Roach Creed are post-grunge, which is infinitely lamer. Grunge guitarists like Jerry Cantrell and Kim Thayil are considered as some of the best musicians of the 90's. Those post-grunge bands TRIED to be like Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Nirvana, and failed... MISERABLY. eg Creed's vocals are a failed imitation of Vedder

@reubidoo Well, you can say Alice in chains is the grunge, but it's millions of times closer to heavy metal bands than to grunge bands like nirvana, mudhoney and screaming trees. You actually can say Nirvana is alternative rock, but you can't say that for Alice in Chains, they are too heavy metal to be called "alternative".

@daniel2B Well I suppose Grunge is a very loose term. Often it's used just to label early 90's bands from Seattle. But like if you're gonna label Nirvana for example as Grunge, you might as well say it's Grunge/Punk while Alice in Chains is Grunge/Metal. Honestly, as a massive AIC fan, I'd certainly describe it as Grunge. Soundgarden is called Grunge; they are far closer to what I'd call heavy metal than AIC. I guess all I'm saying is that what most people consider to be grunge was a great thing

@reubidoo The problem is that some better bands came as grunge because they were also from seattle, even hair metal bands tried to be grunge to survive (these were unsucessful, as a result they failed in both), but what followed from grunge wasn't that. Intencionally or not, these bands are a result of grunge, the same way was the grunge self-pitty attittude that made possible today emos, they can't criticise emos, the difference is that emos are emotive, and grunge use cocaine instead

@reubidoo Well...I kind of still think it was self-pitty... it really looks like, even being result of a neoliberal post cold war world, it is still the way people faced the facts (with self-pity), while the heavy metal that survived still tried to face the problem with extreme displays of power, like happened before in the 70's to 80's bad mood (unemployment, less money, etc)

@thisisAB Chinese Democracy really only lacked because it was a bit over-produced. I know everyone thinks Axl is a douche who ruined GN'R but he's actually a pretty freaking genius composer. I understand Cobain's aversion to the band but Axl was damn talented and still is. I get my fix from all over - GN'R has a nostalgic sound to what I mostly listen to nowadays (Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, etc.) but GN'R is as melodically as the best grunge bands.
