I want to know once again Joey has a black assistant or body guard and at his funeral black men are caring a huge portrait of him what is going on please someone answer this ,how close was Joey's ties to the blacks in the City?
In some ways, Stanley was able to keep fighting because of three reasons. First, his wife was killed by the mafia. In suffering this personal loss, he would never submit to the murderers of his loved one. Second, as a veteran of the Vietnam War, Stanley White was used to risking his life on a daily basis. In this respect, he is not as easy to intimidate into silence as an average citizen. Third, by the time of his final encounter with Tai, he had lost almost everything, so he had little to lose.
I like Stanley White. He is a brave, honest man who is trying to fight the crimelords while others are prepared to look the other way or, worse, take bribes. It was like he was fighting a one-man war against the apathy and greed of the human race. He is a hero who reminded me what justice is. Sometimes, the right thing to do isn't necessarily the POPULAR thing to do.
I think there is a lot of Mickey in Stanley. This is one of my favorite performances by him. Oddly enough, I thought he was good in Domino as well. Yes I know it was not a great pic. Harley Davidson is a silly movie but I enjoy watching it time to time.
The director says he wanted the Mercedes to shatter into a million pieces when it hit the train at 5:25 but the Mercedes is built so strong it would not break, even when the train crushed it. So he just said the heck with it and left it as is.
Yes, it's unfortunate. The fact that young Joey Thai had to give his life for his drug bust gone bad, and couldn't turn his life around. Very terrible indeed.
@mahadragon Also, the Chinese Triads could let Stanley White get away with killing Joey Tai at this point. The older, established bosses considered Tai to be too bold and a troublemaker. With Tai gone, the older bosses thought the balance of power they have kept for generations can be stabilized. They consider the fact that they haven't killed Stanley to be enough of a reward for the detective.
Stanley is a really good shooter with his left hand to be a rightie :P

Mickey Rourke's character has gone through as much shit as Charles Bronson's in the Death Wish films. But Mickey is a much better actor.

@mahadragon No, not that; it's the whole freeze-frame ending. If they took it a little more seriously, it could have been great.
