To be fair, I'm not a MILITANT pc fanboy, so I can definitely see where a console fits in. It's nice to have friends over, a few beers and just relax in the living room playing a few games. With a PC it's a bit more hassle and doesnt really have the same pick-up-and-play feel.

I'm just astonished at the horrible build quality of the XBOX, though I hear they did some work to fix this.

I do doubt that XBOX's are more widely used than PC's though. And instead of live, get steam! It's pretty good.

Yeah I use steam, but I personally find the xbox to be much more social because of what you said and nearly all my friends have it and we can sit down and have good fun over LIVE. The xbox's build quality sucks but I think its improved since launch and the newer models are coping much better.

For me, the PS3 is the best. For the fact that I got the RROD and can't fix it. I didn't have Live, though, because I didn't want to spend 40 dollars on it. The PS3's online isn't really laggy and it's free. It's good enough for me. But there's some insane games like Castle Crashers for the XBox that's coming to the PS3, though. :3

A tip for people: When this guy said "if your router is miles away, buy a wireless adapter" YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO THIS. If you google "How to connect to xbox live through your computer" and dig around a bit, you can find some tutorials on setting your computer up as a wireless adapter. Works really well with laptops. My Xbox is in my basement and my router is on the second floor I connect through my comp and xbox live works perfectly. Just a tip to save some cash! :P

If you have a spare laptop/netbook, you can use that rather than going out and buying a wireless adapter. Just connect the Xbox and the laptop/netbook via Ethernet cable, then go to the computer's network connections settings and bridge the built-in WiFi adapter to the connection between the Xbox and the laptop. It's how I have my Xbox connect to the Internet/wireless home network/home server.
