maybe so... i just tought it would save time and money connecting them this way, plus by varying the size of the sprockets, it could help torque or hp. it wouldnt have to be a motorcycle chain.
just asking, but if you used tooth gear on the tranny shaft and another at the motor and connect them by a chain, wouldnt it transmit the same power and save a lot of headaches with the motor mounting part of the job?
Sounds like a nightmare to me. Chains break. And they slip off the sprocket. Did you have a bike when you were a kid?
I LIKE having transmissions and clutches on electric cars. Why? Two main reasons. The RPM range of an electric motor is quite different from an internal combustion engine. AND it can be quite different from one electric motor to another. I can guess pretty well at this point what ratios would work well, and I can calculate them till I'm blue in the face. But there is
A certain "feel" to a car as well. And we don't know what that will be like until we drive it. The mini has SIX gears and THREE of those are overdrive. I think it will work famously well.
So why keep the clutch? A disconnect of last resort. If I somehow get into a runaway situation electrically, I can pop the clutch and hand grenade the motor, which might be better than careening into the river at 90 mph. Unlikely? Yes, of course it is. But it makes me feel good.

I think the motor would also look great painted the same color as the car to set it off in the engine compartment.

It's a good video but I think you made the cut in the video a little bit wrong (you talked about the warp9 in video 21 exactly the same)
Maybe a mistake ;)
0:00 until 2:04 is again what we saw the last 2 minutes in 21e
