THE FUNK OF MY LIFE NO ONE DID IT BETTER......!!!!! Just think that Miles call him at 18years old.The only other left hand better than Herbie's my be Chick or McCoy
This is proof that GOD was not just Buddy Rich: He endorses Herbie too. Herbie is the TRUE REVELATOR. If you don't groove on this you don't have to worry about dying: you are already dead.
Watchin Herbie and crew perform live is great, but nothin can touch the album version of these songs!! The end section of this jam is MEAN!! No one can touch the man from Chi-town!!
One of my all time favorite jams of the Herb!!The end section is THE BOMB!! Herbie is THE MEANEST!!! The "Mr. Hands "CD is BAD too! "SECRETS" is bad too..... Herbie is just a bad dude!!
Nastee !!!!! with a capital N saw Headhunters last nite @ Iron Horse Northampton Mass ,still have Mike Clark and Bill Summers. They tore it up !! Spoke to Mike a bit ,still got it Mike !!

@rougecat007 yeah, right Bro!That's the way it was,and it should be!Unfortunately I have to forget 'bout girlfriends'cause I'm getting at the age of Herbie, my Hero! a pity
@icmjazz i think it's less familiar because of the timing of it. this sound was already experimented with by stevie, sly, billy preston and host of jazz-funk artists including les mccann and donald byrd. by contrast headhunters was an original mix of damn near everything so it appealed to more people. "chameleon" alone did that.
baddest breaks I've heard in a long time: 2:37 & 5:20 . I've practiced making music (electronic) that uses those types of sudden breaks with chord changes, hard to do, but once it's done right it really gives so much funk to the piece. Thanks Herbie, a deep influence on what I do.
@rougecat007 hahaha, that's an awesome image, indeed, this music evokes many, many impressions of how our everyday lives were deeply influenced by this music.
Wow...this is what it sounds like when a master jazz pianist gets down! One of the funkiest mountain of grooves you'll ever hear...especially Paul Jackson, (bass), and Mike Clark, (drums),... killin it! I've got tickets for Herbie's birthday concert at Carnegie Hall in two weeks, I hope he breaks out with one funk/fusion set...that would be lovely.
I remember when I was 9 years old, and my father dusted off the turntable and dropped the needle and the funky synth-bass from chameleon started playing. I've been hooked to all forms of electronic music ever since. I still have to get back at the roots and spin some old herbie every now and then.
sounds like this belong in a blaxploitation film. i can see pam grier runnin through the streets with her gun chasin some jive turkey and at the end of the chase she commences to kickin his ass.....
