  • @rougecat007 wow and I thought was the only one

  • I think this track exists solely to torture my Grado Red1 cartridge. Grado fans will know what I'm talking about.

  • the best funk album of all time

  • what about headhunters? Or sextant?

  • @KLthebig no, this is. sextant isn't even funk, it's like pre techno.

  • its like funk tecno. ; D. Hancock is realy a genious

  • movin groovin spanl a lee

  • Super Nova

  • Herbie is one of those guys who used sounds that I find really cheesy but in the best way possible, so it sounds awesome.

  • Terrorists don't exist... not in my world.

  • THE FUNK OF MY LIFE NO ONE DID IT BETTER......!!!!! Just think that Miles call him at 18years old.The only other left hand better than Herbie's my be Chick or McCoy

  • tHE FUNK OF MY LIFE NO ONE DID IT BETTER......!!!!!

  • Great way to start the Day! :)

  • This is proof that GOD was not just Buddy Rich: He endorses Herbie too. Herbie is the TRUE REVELATOR. If you don't groove on this you don't have to worry about dying: you are already dead.

  • Listen to those drums!!! Daaaaamn!!!

  • beasty.. trying to recreate on dnb tracks, easier said than done, props to the man

  • SO FUNKAYYYYY

  • Starting @ 5:20 is The Meanest section of all time!!

  • Watchin Herbie and crew perform live is great, but nothin can touch the album version of these songs!! The end section of this jam is MEAN!! No one can touch the man from Chi-town!!

  • One of my all time favorite jams of the Herb!!The end section is THE BOMB!! Herbie is THE MEANEST!!! The "Mr. Hands "CD is BAD too! "SECRETS" is bad too..... Herbie is just a bad dude!!

  • Will someone raise up and re launch funk!!!!!

  • Deep fried & extra crispy with a side of funk sauce, Herbbie is da man!

  • Nastee !!!!! wiyh a capital N saw Headhunters last nite @ Iron Horse Northampton Mass ,still have Mike Clark and Bill Summers. They tore it up !! Spoke to Mike a bit ,still got it Mike !!

  • @rougecat007 yeah, right Bro!That's the way it was,and it should be!Unfortunately I have to forget 'bout girlfriends'cause I'm getting at the age of Herbie, my Hero! a pity

  • Herbie in his little space pod. Fantastic.

  • this is the kind of music that would make Chuck Norris breakdance

  • I had listened to both Head Hunters and Thrust. I love them. Is there another album or atist similar to this??

  • @jpcasado1 Dude, you should try 'The Meters' : Look Ka Py-Py

  • thrust is a great album. it's a shame that it is less familiar than head hunters (which is great too)

  • @icmjazz i think it's less familiar because of the timing of it. this sound was already experimented with by stevie, sly, billy preston and host of jazz-funk artists including les mccann and donald byrd. by contrast headhunters was an original mix of damn near everything so it appealed to more people. "chameleon" alone did that.

  • baddest breaks I've heard in a long time: 2:37 & 5:20 . I've practiced making music (electronic) that uses those types of sudden breaks with chord changes, hard to do, but once it's done right it really gives so much funk to the piece. Thanks Herbie, a deep influence on what I do.

  • @rougecat007 hahaha, that's an awesome image, indeed, this music evokes many, many impressions of how our everyday lives were deeply influenced by this music.

  • Love it!

  • this is gota be the baddest shit ive heard all weak

  • This is an awesome beat ;) !!!!!! makes me wanna do anything

  • If ya don't groove to this, you must be a fucking stone.

  • Wow...this is what it sounds like when a master jazz pianist gets down! One of the funkiest mountain of grooves you'll ever hear...especially Paul Jackson, (bass), and Mike Clark, (drums),... killin it! I've got tickets for Herbie's birthday concert at Carnegie Hall in two weeks, I hope he breaks out with one funk/fusion set...that would be lovely.

  • get the funk out my face the funk out my face

  • such an awesome funky tune. herbie is the man

this and a few other tracks remind me of the music from this show called Chowder

  • @rougecat007

    Way on!

  • wow that is sooooo tight...

  • If the amount of funk this song produces was converted into nuclear waste, it would be Chernobyl all over again.

  • What album is this from?

  • head hunters 1973

  • @arturocas90 Thrust, (1974), the follow up and the funkier of the two.

  • Every time I hear this, I picture Roger from "What's Happening" doing the Robot.

  • Woooooo ! Psychedelic ! ;))

  • i fricken love the synth + rhodes in this tune

i only listen to 3 herbie lp's regularly, and this/thrust is one of them ..fantastic

although headhunters is still my alltime fave ..whatever those guys were feelin that day,i want some! its almost too good to be true

  • I remember when I was 9 years old, and my father dusted off the turntable and dropped the needle and the funky synth-bass from chameleon started playing. I've been hooked to all forms of electronic music ever since. I still have to get back at the roots and spin some old herbie every now and then.

  • perfect, one of my fav' jazz-funk

  • Paul Jackson is the COOLEST!

He plays super funky without 1 slap

  • paul jackson is just the tightest bass player. he makes the headhunters so funky (not that everyone else isnt just as amazing)

  • If this track was any more funky...

... well no, it just ain't possible

  • hahahha! So true!

    Funk OD!

  • What - you too ?? Ha, ha!!

  • im dancing in my chair!

  • lol

  • doesnt get any funkier...

  • LOL

  • What a remarkable coincidence. I now share the exact traits you mentioned, except I go around home naked.

  • So You Keep It Real Then? Glad To Hear It.

  • hahah thats hilarious. good on you.. you;ve got SOUL!..just what i;ve looking for. hahah

  • WOW WOW WOW,People need to know that this guy was not just a "rock it"novelty act.I am funkin' it up.Love it!!!

  • Believe me when I tell you: People have known for a long time.

  • holy crap!

  • brings back a lot of good memories.still sounds funky fresh after say 34 years!!! I have orig album. I do miss good cover art.

  • well, i think it's quite impossible to cover this track ;) not because of the notes, but because of the sound...and tone.

  • Somzêra da porra.

  • This is funk that would stop a terrorist and make him groove before he's apprehended by the proper authorities

  • that was an epic comment, I commend you

  • yeh man :D

  • @quest4tanelorn

Man, that is a nice comment!

  • its a stone groove my man

  • Oh, it's fucking evil. EVIL

  • FUUUCK YOOOOU..this is on higher lvl'z then your lil wayne gayness...go kill yoself

  • YOU ARE A FAGOLA

  • Mike Clark and David Garibaldi are funk drum gods!

  • When I first heard this song, I knew I had found the funkiest thing in existence. Listening to Spank-a-lee feels like the first time every time.

  • This is a master class in Funk.

  • sounds like this belong in a blaxploitation film. i can see pam grier runnin through the streets with her gun chasin some jive turkey and at the end of the chase she commences to kickin his ass.....

  • all hai mike clark

  • Fantastic, sounds like Eumir Deodato...

  • That's interesting. I never thought about it that way. I always put this closer to Weather Report, because of the musicianship of the players :-)

  • Thank for your reply. For example listen Deodato arrangements for Also sprach Zarathustra and tell me something....

  • listen to the intense major intervals that Jackson starts throwing in around 4:30"

  • Pure Funk Genius, Man!

  • It's the bassline what makes this tune BADASS ... only way I can describe it.
