Check your CPU temp when rendering and simulating. I found the hard way that stock Intel fans SUCK when you push your processor. Mine was almost at boiling before I figured out whats going on. That can cause your machine to lock.
Well, basically, for faster simulation you need to have less particles. You can reduce amount of particles using resolution, at the same time, you can bring up Int Pressure setting to maintain volume of liquid...
I am using a core 2 duo 3 GHZ processor overclocked to 3.4 as well as 4 GB of DDR2 RAM and I am having problems with not only realflow locking up while simulating but also rendering in 3ds max 9.. I get errors from VRAY and Max saying that I ran out of memory.. any suggestions?
Sorry.. Windows XP Home Edition sp3.. I changed some of the Vray settings and it still gave me the vray error but I clicked OK to continue and so far it hasnt stopped this time. I am only at frame 20 or so after restarting.
I am currently rendering from this tutorial now but I was wondering how you control how long the water flows or how much of it. Rather than a short pour of water, how do you make it constant until it fills up the glass and then have it stop? I am not sure how all the settings work.
I watched the 3 parts and I must say that is the best tutorial about Realflow that I've seen , mainly because there are not too many on you tubee, so thx. I was actually with realfolow opened and making it step by step. Very usefull info. I started working with realflow right now so thx a bunch :)
sure... The only thing you have to do is change a bit the material settings that I already used for water... Use VRay mtl, everything is same as for water, just scroll down to Refraction options, find Fog color and change it to dark red, after that decrease the Fog multiplier to something like 0.02 and voila! We have nice looking wine... :)
tnx a lot! :) You helped me a lot! :)

True, this might be an issue. I mean simulations like this really take all 100% of your CPU power which of course generates a lot of heat.
When I OCed my quad I went for aftermarket cooler cause the stock one would have a hard time keeping my CPU cool at those clocks...

I use pentium 4 with 512 mb ram for modelling in 3ds max :)
I think i am a hammer head to use that kind of pc :) hehe

If you dont live in the usa i will be spend you a computer.
I had a computer kind like yours in 2004 year.
Now i have a Computer with 2 Opteron(6x2,1 Ghz) CPU´s and 64gig of ram.

@Amazlng
Well, for modeling you don't even need stronger pc, but when it comes to rendering, well, that might be a problem lol...
I'm using Phenom II (4x3,6 GHz) now but only 4GB of DDR3 1600MHz memory, could use 4GB more....

There is no RF Loader option in the Real Flow plugin for 3ds max anymore. Any ideas on how to get your bin sequence into 3dsmax?

your circle settings sucks so every normal pc will crash with it anyway thanks
LandlordsBelleview 3 years ago
yeah... I've made some testings since this tutorial... those settings were too high, you can get almost same result with a bit lower settings :)
syso01 3 years ago
my computer can simulate it....
Tomm351 2 years ago 2
Well... yeah but the fact is that you can get almost the same results using lower settings... Which is good news for those with ''low-end'' PCs... :)

I accidentally removed this comment:
Can it really take a whole day for small RealFlow simulation?
Answer:
Yes, it can. Especially if you're simulating liquid on very high settings as they are in my tutorial...

Where can i download the Realflow plugin for 3D max? :/ You should have a link or something in your description ;P
