@breakthewalls9 right, so i hope that he (Chandler) will find as well the "way of suffering" for the word, the church, actually everyone, as Jesus suffered for us. I am convinced that this is the ultimate essence of the deep preaching of Dr. Piper
Under the dark sky, shines the moonlight. Blessed by Satan, I dwell within depths of hell. Powers of the devil defeating the cowardly light. The throne of god shall crumble down. The earth will be a kingdom of demons. Where life and indulgence shall rule. Those who worship holy evil will be doomed. The white sheep shall be destroyed. Rendered to pieces by the claws of Satan. A black star shines over a mighty new king. The paths to hell are clear. The lord of the pit will rule!
You are physically animated, yet mentally dead. I see you awake but you are not really there. You walk around in a hollow shell. Living a life of mental stagnation. Seeking the comfort of reassuring lies. Your shallow mind, in a church of fools. Living a life of willing ignorance. Never thinking, forever dim. Nothing's more pathetic than a brainless drone. Vicious cycles of lies to cover lies. Just another robot in factory of falsehoods. A hollow puppet controlled by strings.
well gee, that doesn't even rhyme. Do you feel better about your self now that you have bravely posted your gospel on some random youtube site? Pretty lame and self righteous don't ya think. I'm kind of tired of people who think it is their job to anonymously get their jabs in so they feel like they have some significant task. So lame bro, so lame.
Symbols of dark chaos are blazing again. Showing us all a new way to follow. The army of demons empowered by revenge. The marks of lies engraved on the church. Created by the god of false love. Demons tear through holy hypocrisy. The empty cowards are now dead. Swiftly defeated by the swords of hell. For those who foolishly adored worthless holiness. Now are enslaved by sadness, melancholy and malice. We are true to Satanic wisdom. As our black witchery will spread eternally.
Dark powers caressing my mind. In my unveiling, a body of shade. My heart, his infernal tongue. Blasphemous rituals lead the way to Lucifer. We adore the work of the devil. On a path of evil incarnation. He is below and above you. His life is ecstasy in yours. Under the inverted cross of the lord. See your soul in a black dimension. Pray to the weak god of infinity. Your pallid prayers are forgotten. You are the stranger to our champion. I lead you to the throne of Old Nick.
Screaming and laughing they are dancing in your head. The angels arrive scorched by the flames of Satan. On Sabbath day from the ashes come the demons. They are our kings of blasphemy. Sabbath day is now demon's day. Now they are the true masters of your fears. Dark clouds have obscured the sun. The demons from Hell are rising in your mind. You may run, though you can never hide. Their Satanic dancing has attacked your puny brain. You can't escape, they are the kings of blasphemy.
Let us not forget that from the days of Polycarp, until the 1900's in the U.S.A. there was no substantiated claim of speaking in "languages" in the Christian world. Why is that? Not until the 1900's? In Kansas?
How does tongues help us to grow in holiness? What prophecies have you heard that we should add to the back of the bible? What multi-language culture has your church reached with the gift of languages? How many people has it converted to Christ? Those who chase after prophecy and refuse to use scripture to say whether it is truly prophecy or not, but make their own rules, drink down vain imagination like water. Aren't the scriptures sufficient?
Absolutley! No "prophetic word" goes over them. Paul said not to despise the gift of prophecy. Remember, it is prophecy that edifies the body of Christ. It was prophecy that caused the dry bones to become the great army spoken of in Ezekiel. When true prophecy is used biblicaly, it is a powerful and useful tool. Also, remember that the spirit of prophecy is the testimony of Jesus.
This video has nothing to do with speaking in tongues. Why do people use Desiring God videos to propagate their beliefs? Bethlehem Baptist Church has never endorsed speaking in tongues, and it is really not up for discussion.
This is a personal attack on a ministry because they don't believe like "intelligent" you do. Paul actually discredits the importance of speaking in languages. He says he'd rather speak a word with his mind.
I think you may be missing the context of what he's saying about baptism.... ? He's not claiming that baptism is false or unbiblical, he's stating that the people who were wanting to get baptized were doing so for the wrong reason, "My mom's sick," etc, instead of truly understanding the symbolic gesture of baptism.
Thank you, but I was responding to HezUhlive22, who said "Truth, I live in DFW and use to go to Matt's church. I love what God does, I just wish that The Village would wake up more to the Holy Spirit and recieve [sic] His baptism."
I said I wished they operated in the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the services. You may not understand how powerful the gifts the Holy Spirit gives are until you see or experience it for yourself. (ie. prophecy, tongues, helaing, signs & wonders) Matt always has said that he is charismatic (Baptacostal), that tells me he believes and operates in the gifts of the Holy Spirit (God).
You have judged that those manifesting the gifts of the Holy Spirit as fake. Don't condem those operating in the gifts God gives. Many believers have the ability to operate in the gift of speaking in a spiritual language, but think its too weird or mystical for them to do it.
I really liked your video and your channel. If you need any help getting this video or channel exposed I use a site called tubeviews.(net) It has really helped like 20 of my main videos get to the top in position. God Bless!
Truth, I live in DFW and use to go to Matt's church. I love what God does, I just wish that The Village would wake up more to the Holy Spirit and recieve His baptism.
Jesus was full of the Holy Spirit, and the disciples of Jesus were baptised in the Holy Spirit. When they meet believers in Jesus who knew only of John's baptism the disciples told them about the Holy Spirit's baptism and they recieved it as well. What do you believe about the baptism of the Holy Spirit?
They didn't meet believers in Jesus - they were the disciples of John - not Christians yet. I believe that all true believers are baptised by the Spirit into the body: 1 Cor 12:13. If you are saying that the experiences in Acts is normative throughout church history, then there were no conversions for several centruries, inc the Reformation, the Great Awakening and the 1859 revivals. Acts was a transitional stage in the early church. Why is there no command to be baptised in the HS in the NT?
There were many followers who practiced speaking in tongues, prophecy, & the likes. They were called mystics by most.
A better question you need to ask yourself is where does it say that speaking in tongues/prophecy/healing was only for the early church as a "transitional" stage...nowhere. I tell you the truth, it is lie to keep the children of God from experiencing fullness of the Sprirt. Don't believe a lie just because you don't understand it. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is real.
1 Cor 13:8 and Heb 2:4. I am not against speaking in tongues, etc, but it is NOT the major thing you are making it. The overall teaching of the NT and church history - ESPECIALLY during revivals (where of course the Spirit is at work in very particular ways)
A better question YOU need to ask yourself is whether God the Holy Spirit really does give gifts as HE sovereignly wills or is He tied up by our unwillingness or unbelief? Scripture is clear that the Spirit is as sovereign as the wind - He blows where HE wishes! And for most of the past 200 years he has chosen NOT to give the gift of tongues - even during revivals!
From my own experiences with followers of Jesus it is obvious to that the gift of tongues is active. Many believers I personally know speak in tongues right now, including myself. What makes you believe that the gift of tongues has been held back by God for the past 200 years? This just sounds like an learned personal opinion.
Sorry, I missed an "0" off - I meant 2000 years - church history, esp revivals, shows unequivocally that God has NOT given the gift of tongues. God's sovereignty is ABSOLUTELY the issue - if you are criticising Matt's church for not seeking the so-called baptism of the Holy Spirit - you are actually criticising God! I'm sure God DOES still grant the gift today (although there are lots of counterfiet manifestations) but it's up to HIM to give it, as HE sovereignly wills - do you believe that?
I believe you are very confused about the gifts of tongues and the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Espescially due to the fact that you think you know exactly how God has moved over the past 2000 years. When Jesus returned to the disciples after His resurrection they received the Holy Spirit when He breathed on them. At pentacost, they received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Remember, in His sovereignty He gives us choices, we are not zombies. We can choose to reject (grieve) the Holy Spirit.
What's important to know is what the Word says. By the fourth century, Chrysostom was already saying "It's hard to explain these, since they aren't happening."
And no Biblically orthodox Christian even claimed they happened until 1906.
What happened there was nothing like the Bible. The Bible's interpretation was twisted to come down to the level of modern fakers.
I don't help anyone — and I certainly don't serve God — by pretending otherwise.
You quote a man to argue against God's Word? Tell me one place where God tells us that the gift of tongues was only for the transitional period in which the apostles lived. If you cannot prove in the Word that tongues is not for today, why make argument against it? And do not judge the children of God who speak in tongues. Leave it up to God to part the chaff from the wheat.
Simplicity. I'll give you two: 1 Corinthians 13:8 expressly says they will cease; then 14:21-22 (in context of the quotation from Isaiah) says they are a sign for unbelieving Jews of God's coming judgment, which happened 70AD.
1 Corinthians 13:8 says they will cease when we see Him face to face, which is when we see Christ in heaven, not when the apostles have died, there's some simplicity for you :)...
And no, 1 Corinthians 14:21-22 does not say that tongues were a sign for unbelieving Jews of God's judgment, which happened 70AD, nor does the Isaiah passage relate to that. But nice try :).
Actually, 1 Corinthians 13:8 does not say that, and 14:21-22, studied in context of the quoted Scripture does say that tongues were a sign of the judgment of 70AD.
I won't lie against the truth and insult you by saying that was even a nice try. It was just gainsaying, accomplishing nothing but exposing your laziness.
1 Corinthian 13:10,12 "but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known."
Read the verses after verse 8, and you'll see that those gifts that are talked about in verse 8 will cease when we see him face to face, SORRY BUT I AM RIGHT.
NOWHERE DOES IT TALK ABOUT A JUDGMENT FULFILLED 70AD SORRY YOU JUST MADE THAT UP
Caps doesn't really make up for your laziness, it just adds impatience and rudeness. Yes, I've read that section very often, and in Greek. It said nothing that you said it said - I notice you dropped that, which is wise. Traditions die hard, I understand that.
Maybe if you can calm down, study your Bible more thoughtfully, study the context of Isaiah, the meaning of Gentile tongues in Israel. Learn about the history of the day, and the fall of Israel.
1 Corinthians 13:8-10,12 "Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part; but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known.
The gifts will fade away(v8) when the perfect comes(v10), because the gifts are partial(v9).
Now we see through a mirror dimly(that is, not fully, or partially), but then face to face, that is perfectly, or fully(v12). When do we see Christ face to face? When he comes back(Rev. 22:4).
When we'll see Him face to face, we will also know Him fully, not partially,as we do now(v12). I think we both agree that we do not know God yet fully.
The gifts will exist until we know and see Him fully!
The original question was to find a verse that said tongues would cease. Mission Accomplished.
Yours is a possible interpretation, but not a likely one. This isn't the first time "face to face" was used in Scripture; IIRC, not one of the other passages refers to Heaven nor the last day.
Nor does Paul say what you say. He says the partial will be replaced by the complete thing. What complete thing?
@bibchr you are advocating a certain interpretation of a verse that is very hotly debated, I don't think there is overwhelming conclusion in Christianity that the gifts have ceased and you cannot make a blanket statement and say that that they have
I also feel you are confused - bibchr's post puts it very eloquently. Are you saying that Christians have been rejecting God's gift of tongues for over 1800 years? Even during revivals, when people longed for as much of God as they could take? Acts was a transitional stage of the early church - there were tongues of fire on the disciples' heads too - are you going to say that we've been rejecting that too?!?
I really am confused as to why you think the gift of tongues is not in existence. I have been to many churches where the gift was properly used, as in the New Testament. Someone gives a word tongues, and another interprets. My mother was at Prestonwood Baptist church in a Sunday school class. The teacher taught on what you are saying, (that tongues was non-existent). Afterward, he sarcastically asked if anyone had ever spoken in tongues. Several raised their hands, and he was astonished.
You are misquoting me - check my original post. I'm not saying I don't believe in its operation today or that no one has the gift - but I'm trying to get you to see it in its historical context - and that much - maybe even most - of what passes for the gift today is counterfeit, because it's exercised unbiblically and is pushed by guys who have a whole host of doctrinal and lifestyle issues. But I accept that I shouldn't throw the baby out with the bathwater.
I understand that many people that have this gift seem crazy and many of them are crazy for God, but also there have been those who fell. Yet who are we to say that we would also not fall, we are still men and the sinful nature is still there. Talking about lifestyle issues though isn't much of an argument because there are many in all denominations that lived/live in obvious sin.
Many people keep it to themselves out of fear of false doctrines like the one you present. You claim that you know what God has sovereignty done? We should carefully observe our hearts. Who in the New Testament tried to persuade others to believe their opinions rather than teaching the Gods truth? Read the epistles and carefully observe the remarks the apostles made about the false teachers & foolish ones who boldly taught their opinion yet had no understanding.
If you are calling me a false teacher, come out and say it. If tongues were as important as you say, why is there ZERO mention of them in the pastoral epistles? In fact in EVERY epistle apart from 1 Corinthians (which of course was a carnal and hugely dysfunctional church)? And it's a fact of church history that even in times of revival the gift did not operate in any kind of major way.
That is no argument. Paul said he speaks in tongues more than any of those in Corinth. He also talks about singing spiritual songs to the Lord, as well as understood hyms. I'm not saying it was in major use for whatever revival you are talking about (that doesn't matter). I'm saying that it has not ceased and is still very useful to the body and individual believer. I'm not saying you are a false teacher, I'm still tryign to understand what you believe and why.
Perhaps I am mistaken and u just simply don't believe because u & those u know have not operated in the gifting. Just like faith in Jesus. We have not seen Him, yet we believe. I used 2 not speak in tongues, but i still believed. And even though it was strange 2 hear others speaking in them, I didn't condem them. I actually felt condemmed & left out (not right). I realized over time that I just didn't know anything about the gift at all, and found out that it was not as mystical as I thought.
I don't disbelieve the gift exists today, I'm just very wary of such manifestations where there is chaos and unbiblical behaviour: God is not a God of disorder. My real concern is your insistence that Highland Village should be focussing on the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the gift of tongues when the NT does not encourage that. Christ baptises us with His Spirit at conversion (1 Cor 12:13) and that is His sovereign act - we cannot resist or reject it! And the SPIRIT decides what gifts we get!
Where have you seen chaos and unbiblical behavior when the gift of tongues was operating? Have you ever been in a place of deep worship twhere you are filled with so much joy and passion that you didnt' care what other people are thinking about your worship? If you are calling extravigant worship "chaos" or "disorder" it should not be thought of as such in the Church.
I am not insisting on the gift of tongues being used at Highland Village. I am saying that the gifts NEED to be in operation for the sake of the edification and growth of the Body of Christ. The gifts are SO helpful, simple as that. I have experienced first hand how much the gift of prophecy and words of knowledge (wisdom) can change your life. I don't know exactly what is happening when I speak in tongues, but I know that it is helping. Paul did it all the time, so it must be worth using.
Have no proof of what? I can't find what you are talking about...speaking in tongues? 1 Corinthians 14:18 "I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all."
"Religion is a set of beliefs in order to PLEASE a deity... religion is a sin in scripture".
Hebrews 11:6 - "And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him."

oh ok, I see now!
So this whole God thing is wrong but you got the whole demon thing right? Wow, way to go!
But I'm guessing your theology is about as good as your poetry.
Let me know how that whole black magic thing is working for you and I'm sorry your dad never hugged you, that has totally got to suck!

What if this present were the worlds last night?
Mark in my heart, O soul, where thou dost dwell,
The picture of Christ crucified, and tell
Whether that countenance can thee affright,
Tears in his eyes quench the amazing light,
Blood fills his frowns, which from his pierced head fell,
And can that tongue adjudge thee onto hell,
Which prayed forgiveness for his foes fierce spite?

No, no; but as in my idolatry
I said to all my profane mistresses,
Beauty, of pity, foulness only is
A sign of rigour: so I say to thee,
To wicked spirits are horrid shapes assigned,
This beauteous form assures a piteous mind.

Let us not forget that from the days of Polycarp, until the 1900's in the U.S.A. there was no substantiated claim of speaking in "languages" in the Christian world. Why is that? Not until the 1900's? In Kansas?
bereansearch 2 years ago
How does tongues help us to grow in holiness? What prophecies have you heard that we should add to the back of the bible? What multi-language culture has your church reached with the gift of languages? How many people has it converted to Christ? Those who chase after prophecy and refuse to use scripture to say whether it is truly prophecy or not, but make their own rules, drink down vain imagination like water. Aren't the scriptures sufficient?
bereansearch 2 years ago

LOL - you can see the DFW churches from Minnesota! I believe it. I'm from TX, it's true - they rival the vatican.
I don't fully understand this "Manifest Destiny of the Church" that seems to be plaguing most pastors, except that IT IS a form of idolatry:
"While making sure our mansion's grown,
we've kicked aside the Cornerstone."

Really? You love what God does in that church, but think they're not even Christian (1 Corinthians 12:13)? Yikes.
bibchr 2 years ago
I think you may be missing the context of what he's saying about baptism.... ? He's not claiming that baptism is false or unbiblical, he's stating that the people who were wanting to get baptized were doing so for the wrong reason, "My mom's sick," etc, instead of truly understanding the symbolic gesture of baptism.
XSmashleyX87 2 years ago
Thank you, but I was responding to HezUhlive22, who said "Truth, I live in DFW and use to go to Matt's church. I love what God does, I just wish that The Village would wake up more to the Holy Spirit and recieve [sic] His baptism."
Make more sense now?
bibchr 2 years ago
Did I say they were not christian? No.
HezUhlive22 2 years ago
Yes. You said they weren't Christian.
You said they needed the baptism in the Holy Spirit.
All Christians BY DEFINITION have been baptized with the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:13).
If they have not been baptized with the Holy Spirit — as you said — they're not Christian.
Faking NT revelatory/sign gifts like modern Charismatics do has nothing whatever to do with it.
bibchr 2 years ago
You have judged that those manifesting the gifts of the Holy Spirit as fake. Don't condem those operating in the gifts God gives. Many believers have the ability to operate in the gift of speaking in a spiritual language, but think its too weird or mystical for them to do it.
HezUhlive22 2 years ago
No. If someone says "Hey look, I caught a trout," and he holds up a boot, I can say "No, you didn't."
In fact, I'd be a fool to say otherwise.

HezUhlive22 2 years ago
They didn't meet believers in Jesus - they were the disciples of John - not Christians yet. I believe that all true believers are baptised by the Spirit into the body: 1 Cor 12:13. If you are saying that the experiences in Acts is normative throughout church history, then there were no conversions for several centruries, inc the Reformation, the Great Awakening and the 1859 revivals. Acts was a transitional stage in the early church. Why is there no command to be baptised in the HS in the NT?
M400fan 2 years ago
There were many followers who practiced speaking in tongues, prophecy, & the likes. They were called mystics by most.
A better question you need to ask yourself is where does it say that speaking in tongues/prophecy/healing was only for the early church as a "transitional" stage...nowhere. I tell you the truth, it is lie to keep the children of God from experiencing fullness of the Sprirt. Don't believe a lie just because you don't understand it. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is real.
HezUhlive22 2 years ago
1 Cor 13:8 and Heb 2:4. I am not against speaking in tongues, etc, but it is NOT the major thing you are making it. The overall teaching of the NT and church history - ESPECIALLY during revivals (where of course the Spirit is at work in very particular ways)
M400fan 2 years ago
A better question YOU need to ask yourself is whether God the Holy Spirit really does give gifts as HE sovereignly wills or is He tied up by our unwillingness or unbelief? Scripture is clear that the Spirit is as sovereign as the wind - He blows where HE wishes! And for most of the past 200 years he has chosen NOT to give the gift of tongues - even during revivals!
M400fan 2 years ago
The issue here isn't of God's sovereignty.
From my own experiences with followers of Jesus it is obvious to that the gift of tongues is active. Many believers I personally know speak in tongues right now, including myself. What makes you believe that the gift of tongues has been held back by God for the past 200 years? This just sounds like an learned personal opinion.
HezUhlive22 2 years ago
Sorry, I missed an "0" off - I meant 2000 years - church history, esp revivals, shows unequivocally that God has NOT given the gift of tongues. God's sovereignty is ABSOLUTELY the issue - if you are criticising Matt's church for not seeking the so-called baptism of the Holy Spirit - you are actually criticising God! I'm sure God DOES still grant the gift today (although there are lots of counterfiet manifestations) but it's up to HIM to give it, as HE sovereignly wills - do you believe that?
M400fan 2 years ago
I believe you are very confused about the gifts of tongues and the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Espescially due to the fact that you think you know exactly how God has moved over the past 2000 years. When Jesus returned to the disciples after His resurrection they received the Holy Spirit when He breathed on them. At pentacost, they received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Remember, in His sovereignty He gives us choices, we are not zombies. We can choose to reject (grieve) the Holy Spirit.
HezUhlive22 2 years ago
What's important to know is what the Word says. By the fourth century, Chrysostom was already saying "It's hard to explain these, since they aren't happening."
And no Biblically orthodox Christian even claimed they happened until 1906.
What happened there was nothing like the Bible. The Bible's interpretation was twisted to come down to the level of modern fakers.
I don't help anyone — and I certainly don't serve God — by pretending otherwise.
bibchr 2 years ago
You quote a man to argue against God's Word? Tell me one place where God tells us that the gift of tongues was only for the transitional period in which the apostles lived. If you cannot prove in the Word that tongues is not for today, why make argument against it? And do not judge the children of God who speak in tongues. Leave it up to God to part the chaff from the wheat.
HezUhlive22 2 years ago
Simplicity. I'll give you two: 1 Corinthians 13:8 expressly says they will cease; then 14:21-22 (in context of the quotation from Isaiah) says they are a sign for unbelieving Jews of God's coming judgment, which happened 70AD.
bibchr 2 years ago
1 Corinthians 13:8 says they will cease when we see Him face to face, which is when we see Christ in heaven, not when the apostles have died, there's some simplicity for you :)...
And no, 1 Corinthians 14:21-22 does not say that tongues were a sign for unbelieving Jews of God's judgment, which happened 70AD, nor does the Isaiah passage relate to that. But nice try :).
Smaskens133 2 years ago
Actually, 1 Corinthians 13:8 does not say that, and 14:21-22, studied in context of the quoted Scripture does say that tongues were a sign of the judgment of 70AD.
I won't lie against the truth and insult you by saying that was even a nice try. It was just gainsaying, accomplishing nothing but exposing your laziness.
bibchr 2 years ago
1 Corinthian 13:10,12 "but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known."
Read the verses after verse 8, and you'll see that those gifts that are talked about in verse 8 will cease when we see him face to face, SORRY BUT I AM RIGHT.
NOWHERE DOES IT TALK ABOUT A JUDGMENT FULFILLED 70AD SORRY YOU JUST MADE THAT UP
Smaskens133 2 years ago
Caps doesn't really make up for your laziness, it just adds impatience and rudeness. Yes, I've read that section very often, and in Greek. It said nothing that you said it said - I notice you dropped that, which is wise. Traditions die hard, I understand that.
Maybe if you can calm down, study your Bible more thoughtfully, study the context of Isaiah, the meaning of Gentile tongues in Israel. Learn about the history of the day, and the fall of Israel.
Hard to help stubborn ignorance.
bibchr 2 years ago
1 Corinthians 13:8-10,12 "Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part; but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known.
Smaskens133 2 years ago
The gifts will fade away(v8) when the perfect comes(v10), because the gifts are partial(v9).
Now we see through a mirror dimly(that is, not fully, or partially), but then face to face, that is perfectly, or fully(v12). When do we see Christ face to face? When he comes back(Rev. 22:4).
When we'll see Him face to face, we will also know Him fully, not partially,as we do now(v12). I think we both agree that we do not know God yet fully.
The gifts will exist until we know and see Him fully!
Smaskens133 2 years ago
The original question was to find a verse that said tongues would cease. Mission Accomplished.
Yours is a possible interpretation, but not a likely one. This isn't the first time "face to face" was used in Scripture; IIRC, not one of the other passages refers to Heaven nor the last day.
Nor does Paul say what you say. He says the partial will be replaced by the complete thing. What complete thing?
bibchr 2 years ago
@bibchr you are advocating a certain interpretation of a verse that is very hotly debated, I don't think there is overwhelming conclusion in Christianity that the gifts have ceased and you cannot make a blanket statement and say that that they have
mariuspieter 1 year ago
I also feel you are confused - bibchr's post puts it very eloquently. Are you saying that Christians have been rejecting God's gift of tongues for over 1800 years? Even during revivals, when people longed for as much of God as they could take? Acts was a transitional stage of the early church - there were tongues of fire on the disciples' heads too - are you going to say that we've been rejecting that too?!?
M400fan 2 years ago
I really am confused as to why you think the gift of tongues is not in existence. I have been to many churches where the gift was properly used, as in the New Testament. Someone gives a word tongues, and another interprets. My mother was at Prestonwood Baptist church in a Sunday school class. The teacher taught on what you are saying, (that tongues was non-existent). Afterward, he sarcastically asked if anyone had ever spoken in tongues. Several raised their hands, and he was astonished.
HezUhlive22 2 years ago
You are misquoting me - check my original post. I'm not saying I don't believe in its operation today or that no one has the gift - but I'm trying to get you to see it in its historical context - and that much - maybe even most - of what passes for the gift today is counterfeit, because it's exercised unbiblically and is pushed by guys who have a whole host of doctrinal and lifestyle issues. But I accept that I shouldn't throw the baby out with the bathwater.
M400fan 2 years ago
I understand that many people that have this gift seem crazy and many of them are crazy for God, but also there have been those who fell. Yet who are we to say that we would also not fall, we are still men and the sinful nature is still there. Talking about lifestyle issues though isn't much of an argument because there are many in all denominations that lived/live in obvious sin.
HezUhlive22 2 years ago
Many people keep it to themselves out of fear of false doctrines like the one you present. You claim that you know what God has sovereignty done? We should carefully observe our hearts. Who in the New Testament tried to persuade others to believe their opinions rather than teaching the Gods truth? Read the epistles and carefully observe the remarks the apostles made about the false teachers & foolish ones who boldly taught their opinion yet had no understanding.
HezUhlive22 2 years ago
If you are calling me a false teacher, come out and say it. If tongues were as important as you say, why is there ZERO mention of them in the pastoral epistles? In fact in EVERY epistle apart from 1 Corinthians (which of course was a carnal and hugely dysfunctional church)? And it's a fact of church history that even in times of revival the gift did not operate in any kind of major way.
M400fan 2 years ago
That is no argument. Paul said he speaks in tongues more than any of those in Corinth. He also talks about singing spiritual songs to the Lord, as well as understood hyms. I'm not saying it was in major use for whatever revival you are talking about (that doesn't matter). I'm saying that it has not ceased and is still very useful to the body and individual believer. I'm not saying you are a false teacher, I'm still tryign to understand what you believe and why.
HezUhlive22 2 years ago
Perhaps I am mistaken and u just simply don't believe because u & those u know have not operated in the gifting. Just like faith in Jesus. We have not seen Him, yet we believe. I used 2 not speak in tongues, but i still believed. And even though it was strange 2 hear others speaking in them, I didn't condem them. I actually felt condemmed & left out (not right). I realized over time that I just didn't know anything about the gift at all, and found out that it was not as mystical as I thought.
HezUhlive22 2 years ago
I don't disbelieve the gift exists today, I'm just very wary of such manifestations where there is chaos and unbiblical behaviour: God is not a God of disorder. My real concern is your insistence that Highland Village should be focussing on the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the gift of tongues when the NT does not encourage that. Christ baptises us with His Spirit at conversion (1 Cor 12:13) and that is His sovereign act - we cannot resist or reject it! And the SPIRIT decides what gifts we get!
M400fan 2 years ago
Where have you seen chaos and unbiblical behavior when the gift of tongues was operating? Have you ever been in a place of deep worship twhere you are filled with so much joy and passion that you didnt' care what other people are thinking about your worship? If you are calling extravigant worship "chaos" or "disorder" it should not be thought of as such in the Church.
HezUhlive22 2 years ago
I am not insisting on the gift of tongues being used at Highland Village. I am saying that the gifts NEED to be in operation for the sake of the edification and growth of the Body of Christ. The gifts are SO helpful, simple as that. I have experienced first hand how much the gift of prophecy and words of knowledge (wisdom) can change your life. I don't know exactly what is happening when I speak in tongues, but I know that it is helping. Paul did it all the time, so it must be worth using.
HezUhlive22 2 years ago
hmm...

@HezUhlive22 I'm pretty sure you have no proof that Paul did it all the time, You might want to tell me where that is propagated in scripture
