My weim Sophie is about 10 months old and she has the shortest attention span EVER. It took her forever to get sit, down, shake, and high five. She can't sit still she always jumps for the treat.
We taught our male weim mostly the same tricks. He acts the same way too. I'd teach him hide and find the toy. They love it. And it's easy to teach too!
One of my nicknames for my Weim is "Goose"! Her actual name is Sasha, and she is completely the opposite from Goose where training is concerned. Hopefully we can fix that though!
Wow your Weimaraner is really smart and so beautiful. This is just my thought buit i think that th Weimaraner is the #1 breed of dog . The Weimaraner is very loyal & easy to train and they act as if they are human. They really love making their family happy. In return the family is the one that is getting trained. But if you dont like to be outside re-think about getting a weimaraner. Goose is a beautiful dog.
mines is 4 months and its the size of the dog in the video, it looks exactly the same except mine has a heart shaped birthmark on her chest. and she doesn't listen to me like the guy in the video haha
@moneybagz674 afgans require a lot of grooming so you would have to be ready for that. Dalmations and Weims pretty much no grooming if that makes a difference
is that really 18 weeks old its big man im getting a dog soon but i dont know what to choose out of weim dalmation or afghan hound please help me make the right decision
Useful tip on the "twirl" trick: I discovered it's extremely useful for wiping my weim's feel when we come in from the rain or snow. I used to have to wipe each of her paws individually... now I just have her spin 1-2 times on the door mat or on a towel, and she has totally dried paws. I think she may also realize why she's supposed to spin b/c I've found that when it's wet outside she often spins herself without being asked!
Hey. I might be getting a Weimaraner puppy (2months) in a few days. Do you have any tips for me? like exercize tips, feeding tips(do they eat really fast?), and any other tips to know?
Lovely dog, I had a 12 year old femele I had tu put to sleep and it's been devastating. I see all this great doggies in you tube and I fell like I want to give a home to another weimarainer.... great dogs!!! the problem... they don't really think they are dogs.... way too smart.
When I am off for work, my Weimaraner goes to my mom. My mom act like it is her child and said one day. The dog is mine now. I told her lets go to court, cause I have the pedigree in my name! She said to my dogg Azzaro who is your mom? and my dogg sit right next to her. So that's my mom's evidence!
They are very trainable, very loyal, and get very attached to their owner - tend to go to One owner..as I've seen. We had two of them..they both attached to my mother but they were protective of me and my brother and listened to our commands..but if Mom left the house..each of them would "houl"...then be running for the door when she came home! They were obedience trained..wonderful, wonderful companions!
OMG. I have a weimaraner 4 month old pup that can do sit, down, stay and paw. That's it! PLEASE tell me how to train him to play dead to 'bang'. Adorable!!
That is great...I have 2 weims and they are not nearly that talented. Tried to train them when they were pups but they hated being separated even for a small period of time and there was no way they could be trained together. Good work
omg oh my god! that is excellent my jack russell is 4 and he can almost but not quite do all these. well sit down jump stay come is perfect but how did you teach the rest please ill do almost anything!?
Great training for that age! I could never persuade our weimeraner to stay dead: when I said bang, she would dive onto her back, roll over and be back onto her feet again in one motion! She has no pause button. Looks like you're going to have a really nice dog there.
re: comments that weims are primarily hunting dogs. Far from the truth. True, the court of Weimar breed weims for hunting animals like boar and bear. They also wanted a loyal companion and they did not keep them outside in kennels. This is evident in the fact that unlike other HPR breeds (hunt, point, retrieve) they are very prone to separation anxiety.
weims are the coolest dogs ever. wait til he gets a little bigger and whacks you in the balls with his head when he runs between your legs. lol!
I think the best trick you have is the shoot 'em and play dead one. How did you teach him that? just make the motion and the noise and move him to that position?
Nice comments but truth be told Weims are very teachable just spend a little time with them. Show them the trick for a few minutes then come back to it in a few days.
One trick at a time.
My weim plays hide and seek with my children finding each one of them.
She was hit with a paint ball while we were playing oe time and after that she sits on the edge of the yard when we play.
This is the freakiest video I have ever seen. I don't know why this weim is named Deuce, but mine is Colston. He knows the exact same tricks as this dog. I often wear the exact same shorts this guy has on and everyone I show the video to says the guy looks like me.
Smart boy ! My wiemie learns fast , and dose a few tricks , but I am haveing trouble getting him to ''stay'' . Were working on it tho ! Good job , to dog and owner here !
Oh , weimie/lab . I bet he is a hard headed thing ! lol . Ya , my dog dose fine with everything but that , he just cant stand it , he acts like he's scared Im going to walk off and never come back !
Hahah, I love your Weim. He is much better trained than my 7month old Weimy :P. I can get him to sit, stay, shake a paw, laydown with a few other basic things, but nothing like getting shot dead. I love the way he looks like he's laying on the ground writhing in agony from being shot, lol!
Most are born with naturally bobbed tails. I got a weimaraner-cross from the RSPCA, and she has a big long full tail. The lady that worked there said that was the only weimaraner she'd seen with a full length tail.
This is true. I kept my weim's tail on. When he turned about 1yr old his tail whacked everything in the house and bloodied up the place. It never healed properly so I had to get it docked.
ps: after watching that vid twice, i have to add 2 things. 1st, @ 0.28, you made a smart move threwing food and got him not go after it, rewarding him afterwards... GOOD! that´s the king´s class! only 1 out of 100 can do that,
weims are driven by eyes & nose, so applause!
2nd:as you rewarded him for his good work, the dog was yawning. this is a great sign of collaboration! they only yawn when they are either bored, b) not aware of what´s next or their master comforts them... SPLENDID!
amazing. i´m from germany and may say that i educated my grey ghost very well, but at this age, i have just one comment: wow. - this video displays how hungry grey ghosts actually are for lessons. please keep that up for the next 10 years! let him swim a lot, chasing ducks (he will never catch one though) and force him to find stuff all the time, and he will stretch on your grave one fine day.
Awesome Weimaraner Mine Wont Listen :P He Only Knows Around, Stay, Sit,Down,Roll,Move, and up(Jump). The Coolest is the chik chik bang (Playing dead) that was Sweet how long did it take to learn all that?

I have a Weimaraner, Wendy. She is almost 6 years old and she is so spoiled...but she does "sit" and "down". Not only she learned very fast, but also did it when she was already a grown up...very smart breed. Congratulations!!
Any advice or tips for training our future Weim? We are thinking about getting one, and would love to have some advice on when we should start training and how. :-)
Great job with Goose! Been working with Weimies a long time and have rarely seen one with such a mastery at that age! Keep it up and he'll be great at anything you teach him. I love that you can tell that Goose doesn't just do what you say, he WANTS to do as you ask. A+++++
iv got one n he 12 month n 3 times bigger than that dog n he jumps up on my shoulder all the time n once he pushed me over the wall lol oh ye n mine called lenny
I've got a weimeraner! His name is yukon and lying on me sucking a pillow, Check out our video the watch, and around the quarter point yukon' makes his cameo, appearance.
the human seemed to more pleased with himself that with the dog; "yesssss!" But what a beautiful dog, very regal. my pup is kinda silly dopey at 10weeks How old do you suppose the K-9 in this video is?,
how on earth did you get some a calm, attentive, and responsive weimaraner? You're saving yourself a lot of trouble in the future, unfortunately when I brought my Jaxen home, people kept destroying my training by playing rough with him! Good for you, though. He's gonna be a great friend!
in response to jerkelayd, yea weims are hunting but they are also wonderful companion dogs. keeping the animal focused and well trained is the best thing this owner can do. shame on you for trying to make a great owner feel like his efforts are for nothing. Good job Goosedog1 !! you did great and have an awesome dog!!
Actually, far from it. I am a long time owner/breeder of Weims. I show them as well as train them for hunting trials. They are extremely versitile dogs and can be trained to do anything. SEE JOYBEEME's RESPONSE!
....I have no clue who YOU are or what credentials YOU hold in the Weim world but you are obv. one of those people that seems to think that a hunting dog as a companion is laughable. Sad. I know that that was more than two words, hope you stayed caught up buddy. You can go back and read it slower if you need to.
I miss my 'raner. I was so sad when Rascal died I can't bring myself to get another. It's too hard when they go

Any advice or tips for training our future Weim? We are thinking about getting one, and would love to have some advice on when we should start training and how. :-)

That is AWESOME! Good job Goose! Never seen a pup that young with such a variety in tricks! Well done!

Great job with Goose! Been working with Weimies a long time and have rarely seen one with such a mastery at that age! Keep it up and he'll be great at anything you teach him. I love that you can tell that Goose doesn't just do what you say, he WANTS to do as you ask. A+++++

the human seemed to more pleased with himself that with the dog; "yesssss!" But what a beautiful dog, very regal. my pup is kinda silly dopey at 10weeks How old do you suppose the K-9 in this video is?,

Adorable. My Weim is 10 weeks. I love how calm they can be. Mine is outrageously calm =D <3
bribrimariexx 4 years ago
how on earth did you get some a calm, attentive, and responsive weimaraner? You're saving yourself a lot of trouble in the future, unfortunately when I brought my Jaxen home, people kept destroying my training by playing rough with him! Good for you, though. He's gonna be a great friend!

in response to jerkelayd, yea weims are hunting but they are also wonderful companion dogs. keeping the animal focused and well trained is the best thing this owner can do. shame on you for trying to make a great owner feel like his efforts are for nothing. Good job Goosedog1 !! you did great and have an awesome dog!!

Its a same that people forget that weimaraners are hunting dogs.

It's more of a shame that some people have narrow minds.

your an idiot
cfloc11 4 years ago
Actually, far from it. I am a long time owner/breeder of Weims. I show them as well as train them for hunting trials. They are extremely versitile dogs and can be trained to do anything. SEE JOYBEEME's RESPONSE!

....I have no clue who YOU are or what credentials YOU hold in the Weim world but you are obv. one of those people that seems to think that a hunting dog as a companion is laughable. Sad. I know that that was more than two words, hope you stayed caught up buddy. You can go back and read it slower if you need to.
