These lyrics are the most powerful I've ever heard. It applies to SO many things humanity is all about. It's about love, hope, equality, and going together as one. It's a protest song and a love song. Maybe it's just this intense because I associate an insane ammount of emotions to this movie and Shinkais other works. It's perfect, just perfect. Go out there and raise your voice. Go out there and tell your loved ones how you feel, tell others how you feel. What you feel about, is 'up to you'.

And yeah, I love Voices of a Distant star as well. Out of the three (I haven't seen the one released this year yet) I have to say my favourite is 5cm, followed voices, and this 3rd.

Happy sad as opposed to bitter sweet. They lost something. But they got something back. To know more watch the movie, when you do watch this again.

Dax you have to have been hit fair between the eyes with the insparation stick to marry this music with that movie. Classic example of the sum greater than the parts. ezopasas comments on execution are spot on.

I love how Shinkai leaves his movies open ended, especially in Hoshi no Koe ~ Voices of a Distant Star; that one really touched me. But I'm curious, is there a definite ending to The Place Promised in Our Early Days? I assume that everyone is alive and well, years after they lose that important place, but it shows him thinking about her in the beginning and then her character fades out, making me think she might have passed away later, after the movie's end. Does anyone know for sure?

I loved the execution...gentle, gentle letting you settle in with ideas in your head what this is about. The man looks longfully at two kids, then he remembers a young girl obvioiusly still in school. She's a friend of his past perhaps? He's in a suit, obviously older. Then you go deeper into his past. Again the girl is there, walking with a younger version of himself. The music speeds up. All 3 are older. Wanting to go back to that place promised in their early days. Awesome!

ADV's translation is wrong. It's Velaciela. Actually, "Bella ciela" was actually even grammatically wrong in Italian lol, since it's "Bel Cielo" (Beautiful Sky). Anyway, Velaciela itself doesn't exist, but can be see as Velacielo. Vela = Sail. "(like, hoist the sails)

The translation is most likely correct, what Shinkai meant is indeed "Bella Ciela" (although grammatically wrong). Velaciela is a misspelling (as you know, sounds like "vi" are spelled and pronounced "bi" in Japanese, as there is no "v" in Japanese - video = bideo in Japanese. So what we have here is an "overcorrection" - the filmmakers probably "corrected" the "be" sound in Bella Ciela to "Ve".

You might be right, but then a question comes to my mind. Why the heck there's written VELACIELA on the ariplane's monitor? But i don't know if it's like that in the original japanese or not. And I think that has the answer. I mean, I doubt that Shinkai itself wrote it wrong, but i'm not sure about that. Also, still even the word ciela doesn't exist in any language indeed.
