  • Me and my sister were watching this, American T-V back then..I thought the changes in looks and music style were great!

  • GIRLS! STFU!

  • He beat you to it! XD

  • Best Part 0:00 - 8:50

  • wow. seeing the presenter and the time context makes two already amazing songs seem even more cosmic.

  • First saw these clips (minus Van) on Top Of The Pops, in black & white when i was four years old ; must have been Feb / March '67

  • Interesting how Van Johnson tries to interpret what the audience is about to see.

It's like viewing something from another planet..

  • @dfktrex Van was a Gay Faggot in real life ; he also says this was 'filmed in Strawberry Fields' which is of course bullshit, as it was filmed nowhere near it ; it was Sevenoaks, Kent

  • @kenfig Are you sure he was a Gay Faggot? Maybe he's was just gay in real life?

  • strawberry fields is more lsd than lucy in the sky with diamonds xD

    great song :D:D

  • my fav part was

"and now AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA i beat you to it-the beatles

    crowd: AAAAAAAAAAAA

    one guy: fuck you

    xDDDD

    beatles ROCK

  • The Brazilian Beatles Forever LP was issued in other countries as Por Siempre Beatles, which means the same thing. The Brazilian LP has an unusual song edit: the words "in Summer" are missing from the middle of "Penny Lane." Sure wish I could find this version.

  • my absolute favourite song Penny Lane beats everything!! :-)

  • @happybunny52354 One is able to hear the similarity in general arrangement to 'God Only Knows' if one slows Penny Lane down ; the general rhythum, piano & bass and 'clean' sound which Paul alluded to when saying he wanted it to sound like the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds

  • classic wtf !

the girls didn't know whether to scream or cry during Strawberry Fields.

To think that they gave those songs to EMI to release so that they could finish Sgt Peppers. We shan't see their like...

  • ° Nice tweed...

  • Epic bad asses.

  • @MrBuc128 obvious troll is obvious

  • Van Johnson rocks!

  • Van Johnson rocks!

  • The Beatles performing one of the best songs ever sitting on horses, their heads waving - this is funny and beautiful and incredible!

  • I can remember watching this program to see the Beatles perform and they show up this video...at the time I was thinking we were getting ripped off..where is the performance and what we were witnessing was the first music videos....what had happened was that the Beatles were not performing live anymore all they were doing was making records and we all wanted to see these guys they had not done a movie since Help and they were missed so this is what they came up with..MTV was 14 years away.....

  • que hermosas canciones de the beatles azu por que mataron a lennon el maestro lennon salu2

  • living is easy with eyes closed!

  • Just when everyone thought they had caught up with them, the Beatles re-invent themselves.

  • The screaming girls sound so fake!

  • they were clapping and cheering during the i buried paul cranberry sauce part. i doubt they even knew it was in the song

  • I see that George is on the "Dark Horse" then.

  • Forty years later, still sounding as if they come from another planet. They're eternal.

  • why is it that people said rock band was going to ruin the beatles, out of all music games rock band beatles was my favorite :)

  • those lucky horses

  • "Penny Lane" never got to #1 in UK because of the awful Engelbert Humperdink with "Release Me". PLEASE BEATLES FANS GO TO THE Mazxxx50 "Release Me" to bash this horrible ditty.

  • @TheRunner75 who fucking cares man?

  • at the end of the day its the peoples choice, the people decide. i fucking love the beatles, so what penny lane didnt get num1, who cares if it never made the charts??? all that matters is that you call sit and listen to it and really enjoy it as it is one of the best songs in history, simple but powerful!! f the charts, love your own music!

  • I LOVE YOU FOR PUTTING THIS UP!

  • FLOVE this. Sooo glad I found these on here. Penny Lane is one of favs for sure although I couldn't possibly have just one fav Beatles song.

  • Im hoping these are the next 2 DLC's for The Beatles Rock Band :D

  • troll.....

  • asshole sucker

  • Lennonpieeater: please stop commenting on my page, i won't post your whining messages anyway.

  • this just seems bizarre, teenage screaming about music which is so out there and experimental. Its like teenagers of today screaming about someone like Radiohead

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...................................me too..

  • Even though they had done some video clips to promo their singles before, these to me were the the first true music videos, conceptual, story telling and artistic. And all this in 1966. Wow, talk about being roughly 15 or more years ahead of their time...

  • Hey ya know, they are the beatles

  • and now... AHHHHH!

  • it's amazing how the Beatles could change there style with the mustache's and everything, and the girls would still be crazy for them. Wish they'd scream for me like that :)

  • Who needs acid (lsd) when one can have this??

  • Yes thats Van Johnson......and sadly he passed awai not very long ago.....

  • Is that Van Johnson? He is still alive.

  • HAha! I beat you to it!

  • oh and for old times sake...

AAAAAAAAAAAA I LOVE THE BEATLES AAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!

  • psychodellic overtones? feeling of expanding concousness?

  • beatles forever,,the best band ever,,,

  • I love hearing the girls screaming every now and then. XD Or.. the people, because it's obviously both genders when it comes to The Beatles. x)

This way I don't feel so lonely when I scream too. XD

    <3

  • I love the song Penny Lane:))

  • bet u the girls r like

    r these the beatles?

  • The greatest pop/rock single ever released. Period!

  • @skinnyskaller

    there can be no doubt!

  • @skinnyskaller No Skinny Baby, its got to be Good Vibrations.

  • Van Johnson!!!!

  • i know (lol)

  • wow this is really old

  • the Hollywood Palace was a staple of saturday night tv.the Beatles had just stopped performing live so they got the videos, which were well done.

  • Strawberry Fields is way better. Much more innovative and better lyrics.

  • I'd agree that its a better song, but its still like saying Beethoven's ninth is better than his sixth. Who f*cking cares.

  • I remember watching this very program when I was twelve years old. Yes, there was a time when theses songs were new.

  • I was eleven you old fart, a hahahahaha,,,

  • Cool, I've never seen both clips in their entirety... AWESOME!

  • both tunes are great but as a McCartney lover I like Penny lane better

  • Strawberry Fields is my favourite. it was like a little play are or somewthing that John went to when he was a boy. my trumpet teacher knows the man who played the trumpet in Penny Lane

  • it was n orphenage he went to soometimes to hang out

  • Recuerden que estas canciones y el video fueron hechos sinla ayuda de una computadora o equipos modernos de grabacion..solo talento..cosa que casi no hay hoy

  • haha at first they are screaming when strawberry fields comes out and then they all be quiet when they get weirded out

  • Too funny! those screaming 13 year olds weren't quite ready for trippy, experimental music. They got really quiet when the Beatles started walking backwards and disappearing...

  • strawberry fields is one of my favorites

  • What a rip-off! If I was sitting in the audience that had advertised the Beatles and I got a crummy video instead, I would've been, "what a bummer, man." or, "smoke some crawdad's, jethro?" or, "peace, love, dope." or... XD

the 'canned' applause indicates to me it that there probably wasn't even an audience present when the 'video' was shown, and Van Johnson's intro is too hilarious for words. What an inglorious end for a fairly decent actor. Such is life.

  • van is cool. he even praises the song.

  • When someone cares, they'll let you know. Stay tuned.

  • yea.. 4:29 to 4:44 was the fakest audience cheer ever.

  • The four lads did well, didn't they? Liverpool is a rough city and a difficult place to aspire to anything special -- there is a 'last laugh' quality to these vids. Also, the straight guy in the tux with nonexpanded consciousness is a pretty good sport for that era.

  • What's wrong with you people? The beatles are the greatest band in history! Their music still changes people's lives' to this day. Half of them are still alive, and the only reason the other half aren't is because of health issues due to old age and a terrible hate crime.

  • pepole may think that the beatles are bad just because half of them are dead, but think of it this way: half of them are still alive.

Thats more than some bands can say

  • Interesting theory...hmmm, then Beethoven must really stink cause he's been dead for centuries. Art lives forever.

  • Have you smelled Beethoven recently?

  • Why yes I have.

  • First video's. This started this whole crazy video age, right here. We have them to thank (blame) for all this. and now YouTube is a billion dollar industry. Amazing.

  • Please check out our cover version of this..

    The Beatles are great!

  • Even in 2007, NO oNE can beat them!

  • agreed!

  • anyone that thinks the beatles suck because half of them r dead can kiss my ass

  • beatles best ever...............

  • ...for the working one :-)

  • "They've made a special film for the Hollywood Palace," my ass.

  • there good but u wont get no strawberrys in this weather

  • the beatles were a great studio band but i have heard many rumors about them purposely "rushing through shows as fast as we can, trying to beat the fastest time" that is serious fucking bullshit if thats true man

  • A lot of their live shows were a sham! You couldn't hear the music because of all noise and sceaaming! Most audience just wanted to see them! The Beatles realized this and soon got tired of playing to crowds that weren't really listening! So after a thousand gigs or so like that you can't blame them for going through their set quickly. So they can get out of there!

  • you're fucking right

  • Sexy :)

  • Aw right.. so MaCartney was a drug pusher in those days?

  • haha they were screaming towards the end and then as soon as the mellotron falls, they all shut up

  • Actually I think that the screaming girls are a tape that was added by the TV studio. A crass comentary about the establishment's attitude toward the Beatles at the time. The real audience seemed to applaud and take the films very seriously. Just a guess but it sounds like the same peaks in screaming over and over.

  • wow it's like a trip! It's about time those cunts stopped screaming , in the words of cesar romero " There giving me a headache!"

  • The old Hollywood cunt Van Johnson was once in amongst other things 60s tv 'Batman' as a singing villain named 'The Minstrel'

  • They are truely the musical kings of the word.

  • All that plays for me is the website name and then that jackoff show host doing his fake female Beatle shrill and the bullshit freezes dead cold. Hello?!!?

  • Even by *today's* standards, these are awesome videos. In 1967, it was like receiving a digital broadcast from the Andromeda Galaxy. If they were shot today they would probably be digitally imaged with CGI effects, but that would defeat the whole idea -- capturing moments in the winter of 1966/67.

  • Very interesting stuff. I vividly recall my excitement to learn that new Beatles music was going to be on TV, and I remember the music and the images pretty well, I had forgotten it was on "Hollywood Palace." By today's standards, these music videos are no big deal. By the standards of 1966 this was revolutionary. Great stuff.

  • You have to remember that the Beatles had played their final concert about six months earlier, the fans still thought of them as the moptops from Ed Sullivan and "She Loves You." You can tell the audience is just going... "Oh... My... God." Especially after "Strawberry Fields."

    Oh... My... God.

  • You've gotta give it to The Beatles, those girls were going apeshit and they weren't even there. It was just a damn video.

  • It's kind of weird to hear the screaming at this point. I never connect fangirl screaming with the later Beatles.

  • I think it was just dawning on the audience that something later was going on.

  • Haha, nobody can beat the beatles...

    but we can honour them

    watch?v=jN8enM6gOjo

  • watch Ringo dismount from his horse during Penny Lane, it's so cute!

  • Why is Van Johnson presenting here? Someone said it's the Ed Sullivan show. Was Johnson subbing as host that week?

  • The Hollywood Palace was not the Ed Sullivan Show on CBS. It was a totally show on ABC(?).

  • penny lane is nothing like it is in this video

and i live 5 min walk form it

  • It was filmed somewhere else for the Promo.

  • Gotta love the Beatle boys! Van Johnson is funny. The old Fart.

  • coooooooool vid!

  • these strawberries are wild !!

  • I remember seeing both of these debut on Ed Sullivan...

They remain among my favorites, as the 1st rock videos.

  • Van JOhnson!A beatle maniac!

  • Van Johnson was an old hollywood queen

  • Great video!!! Very different from most others on The Beatles, and certainly rare. That's important: Showing a video that is from a source others haven't done yet. Keep up the good work!!! Greatly enjoyed by us here!!!

  • otaku fangirl :p

  • Stawberry fields was a salvation army home in liverpool, the video for strawberry fileds was filmed in a place called orpington which is in London.

  • I love these two songs. Thank you for posting them.

  • I have never seen this footage before? Same Question where did you get this?

  • Awesome!!! where did you get this footage?Cool stuff!!!
