Do yourself a favor and listen to this with a high quality surround sound from the Blu-ray or through a good set of monitors. The stereo drums are amazing!
this is one of the ten best songs i have heard in my life. i need a fix a couple of times a week with this drug. gut wrenching, atavistic. two drummers huh, and the coolest bass player in the world. if you have the time and the inkling, put on "mountain time"...taped at the same concert...middle eastern music solo into the allman brothers at their best. my heavens.
As a bassist I do like the way this guy uses a 5 string melodically incorporating the low B without sounding overpowering... and, of course Joe is just brilliant... :-)
@typpracoholika what's up with the tendency to write stupid comments? i can't see any justification for that (apart from showing us how dumb you are) lol i'm joking
As SentryNombre put it about Happier Times; "It's now embedded with a specific memory in my life!" The very first time I heard Joe, I couldn't get enough of him. I can't get anything done when I listen to him...I keep drifting back to my puter to watch and glean any new info or music can find on him. His haunting expression of this beautiful song is exquisite! I feel like he's somewhat like a "Snake Charmer"... in a good way. You rock Joe!
Not only is his music on my phone, this song is now infecting me. Mr. Figg and Mr. Bowles are amazing and have now rekindled my love of playing drums.
So how does one know if they "made it"? Sure, you can sell albums, sell out venues, but is that really it? I think when someone can remember something specific in their life and associate a song with that time, that's when you KNOW you've touched someone with your music. Joe, I'll never forget this song. It's now embedded with a specific memory in my life. Peace.
I got into Joe's solo stuff due to Black Country Communion because I'm a huge fan of hardrock. But after watching and listening to some song of Joe B. I'm really impressed. Mostly because his songs are very emotional and sometimes they can rock too.
I actually saw Joe perform locally at a little Mexican restaurant a few years ago (for free!). I knew he could play, but wasn't that impressed with his presentation or appearance and wrote him off as the next over-hyped SRV wannabee. BIG mistake. In the few years since, he has obviously matured in all aspects and plays music almost note for note tha way I WANT to hear and how I would play it myself -- if only I could. Just magnificent discipline to make every single note shimmer
My sweet Lord. He's like Roy Buchanan, Eric Clapton, Eric Johnson, Jeff Beck, Peter Frampton, Gary Moore and Warren Haynes all rolled into one -- and then some... It just don't get much better than this -- at least, this boy hasn't heard it in the last 50 years... Rock on, Mr. B....
I won't sing with musicians that consider me a fool or less talented than I am. Actually the type of musicians I need are those who like to develope my talent...even younger musicians than myself as the talented can always teach each other. I'm also shy offstage. A good thing to remember about some of us.
I won't sing with musicians that consider me a fool or less talented than I am. I have missed him in concert twice now. This year I'll hopefully be at one of his performances. His music is so different and refreshing, I can only take so much B.S. music anymore, mainstream radio just sucks! Joe is the" Man Of The Times"
Joe wrote this song about a girl who he thought was the one. But life has a way of tearing up your dreams. As it turns out she could not commit to a musician who was on the road for so many days out of the year. The end result is one of the most beautiful, soulful, and heart felt song I've ever heard in my 48 years on this earth, along with what has to be one of the most beautiful guitar solos to ever. I literately listen to this song every single day.
@phito11 Absolute with that in mind we always reflect of the past and the woman who has turned your sorrow to this phenom is without all doubts the cry of happiness and the Happier Times once instilled upon us as well i am 48 and will keep this beauty locked until the heart key opens once more to give all for her with Happier Times and when the test arrives go bak to JOE and change sorrow to instant love and peace
@186kms That is why I cry when I listen to this song. But it's good tears, At least those very close and dear things or ones we had the opportunity to have them in our life for a little while.
@186kms Every experience in life either make us stronger and we write great songs that people can relate to or they break us and we bury our heads in the earths crust and wither away...........The songs are healing so the latter doesn't happen.........hopefully for most!

Sir Bonamassa, I used to suffer a lot every single time when realized that we are not together anymore. And never will. She was SOO damn perfect... I have been following this man since I read about him opening for Frampton around 2000. He was incredibly shy and humble, that is until he took the stage and then he totally transformed into the powerhouse you see on stage. Joe goes above and beyond what one would expect to share his vision with kids throughout the country...rock on Joe...You are the MAN

Saying it's cheap to use a capo is like saying it's cheap to use a pick. A capo is merely a tool for the guitarist. Using it certainly does not make you any better or any worse.
I wonder how the lyrics were inspired...often, the song is sung by the vocalist, but there is no thought given to the experiences and the power of the emotions that fuel the words that describe the actions that were born from the thoughts of the one who tells the tale in the lyrics...
Soulful song and lyrics...but don't OD on it...leave the past behind...
Joe, Thanks for taking me back to a deep, dark yet in retrospect beautiful place. Amazing and masterful how you can evoke such emotions. I hope you will play this tune in Clearwater, FL this November.
@MyBoekie .. I've watched the DVD at least 20 times, with this being one of my favorite numbers. It wasn't until I read your post that I noticed the flip that Bogie does at the transition. Thanks for pointing that out. Both he and Anton are phenomenal drummers, and their synchronistic playing is some of the best I've ever seen. I love how after the first transition, Joe turns around and gives them both the hand sign signifying "you rock". Listing to and watching this is one of the Happier Times
I for one am totally into Bonamassa music argue all you want about capos and silly stuff I and eye Listen with detail to the clearity of his delivery and the resonance of his guitar and I am glad I am not the only one that plays this kind of music. When I pick up my guitar It is the sound from the soul that takes me where I want to go His arrangements are right on.
Oh man how i would love to be one of the drummers in his band!! Its so epic when a band has two drummers that have that kind of conection and sound!! I just wish i was part of it man!
On that note Joe Bonamassa is the saint of all saints!! We should all call him St. Gibson!!!
he is new to me also. My loving friend that lived at the apts. I lived in told me about him one nite and since I heard him on the tv, I can't listen enough. He will be in clearwater,fl in nov. but his tickets are expensive. OMG, would love to see him. Love it and can't get enough. Thank you Gregg. Luv, ya babe.
I've been listening to it now 4 over a week non-stop! Amazing performance, It's all ready found it's place amongst my Music DVD collection, BD offcorse. Amazing talent! Amazing both sound and picture! And vocals! Omongst my top 5 of all time!
ok i just learned about this awesome guy!! i was skeeming thru tv channels & his pbs special was on ..... since then i cant stop listening to this song THAT WAS 4 DAYS AGO i cant wait to see him live san antonio tx. FRONT ROW HOPEFULLY. HE VOICE IS VERY SEXY. CANT WAIT TO SEE YOU;)
Simply one more delicatessssssen for the JB Master musician. Amazing guitar performance.
we love you JB......We all hope see you soon in SPAIN.
I've had this on Repeat for 1:25 h now. I'm forever stuck. This tune = Happiest times. Amazing. Wish more teens listened to this and realised what true music is.
Keep rockin' my world Joe. I would Never trade you for the world.
@duff2000 I just don't understand what's the logic of disliking a great performance like this! if they don't like music why they stopped here at the first place!
I wish Bogie was still in the band.

I like what Bogie Bowles does with his drum stick at 5:46. Great song and perfectly played

Simply one more delicatessssssen for the JB Master musician. Amazing guitar performance.
we love you JB......We all hope see you soon in SPAIN.
