  • can i train calves and legs 2 times a week ?

  • @MostBl0ody1 - yes that is the perfect amount for me. Wed and Sat are the legs days for me usually. Baz

  • @BazBlog Nice and thanks! =)

  • @MostBl0ody1 - pleasure. Baz

  • I train my calf muscles once or twice a week. I do the same thing really, I just use a block of wood and go up and down. I'm up to about 30kg now with the calf raises, they are probably the slowest muscle to build in my opinion.

  • @dwshadows - yes they are really slow to train and build. I would also go much heavier if you can. You have to really push them to force the growth. Baz

  • im looking to train my calf muscles not cough muscles...........

  • @ssfourvegeta - Depends on your accent as to how big they will get. Cough muscles will get huge if you follow the vid. Not sure on the calf muscles though. Baz

  • You have amazing legs,is this the only workout routine you did ?

  • @liontoxicatorR -Thanks and yes it is about the only thing I do. Genetics play a big part too. Baz

  • great tutorial, love ur videos!

  • @swaggalikeriz - thanks a million mate. Baz

  • Robert De Niro teaches me how to build huge calves

  • @toniolomichele - lol I just wish I had his money. Baz

  • GOOD STUFF MAN. KEEP UP THE TOUGH WORKOUTS. I SUBSCRIBED. I WILL BE USING SOME OF YOUR SUGGESTED METHODS WITH MY CLIENTS.

PLEASE CHECK OUT MY CHANNEL AND LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK. THANKS!

  • @3gtrainer - thanks for the sub. I hope it goes well for you. Baz

  • what i like about you baz is that your the only person ive seen who doesnt say this is the best way you must do this. you just give good examples and ideas keep it up

  • @camishere191 - why I do that is because there are many ways to train and majority of them work. Each person is different and prefers different things. The body really only responds to what you believe if you believe in it strongly enough. Do what you believe will work and it will. It might not be right for someone else but it will be right for you and that is all that counts. Baz

  • if i can get bigger calves ..wouldnt my speed and vertical increase

  • @JKB41195 - yes I am sure it will help. They are vital muscles with all your movement. Baz

  • Don´t over do training to the calves because the gastrocnemius is surrounded by a tight fascia which led to Compartment Syndrome. This happened to me when I was doing calf raises as treatment for Shin Splints.

  • @filoo1 - The action of the calf muscles, including the soleus, is plantarflexion of the foot (that is, they increase the angle between the foot and the leg). They are vital in walking, running, and dancing and maintaining standing posture; if not for its constant pull, the body would fall forward. Soleus muscles have a higher proportion of slow muscle fibers than many other muscles. That is why they require more work. Baz

  • South African right??

  • @epicmc1000 - close but actually Zimbabwean. Baz

  • Very nice very nice...

  • @x78340 - thanks a lot for that. Baz

  • Good Video... Thanks!

  • @NiaLLODoNNeLL1997 - thanks very much for the comment. Baz

  • @49fortyniners - It works really well for me and I am happy with my results. You must do what works best for you. There are loads of ways to train and you must always do what is right for you but I think it is wrong to say another way will not work. That is why many people have many different things they believe in. Baz

  • how long did it take for you to bulk your calfs?

  • @NewhamGs - it has taken years and of course I was genetically blessed too. Baz

  • he has the calves i want:/

  • @TatiLovesYou96 - thanks that is a great compliment. Baz

  • Hi Baz, great video! I've heard a lot of people telling me that you should also work the front part of the leg (the shins or the anterior tibia) because then the muscle balance in the legs will be better and it will make your calves grow more! maybe you could make a video on some exercises for the anterior tibia? it would be very helpful :)

  • @Brickkks - yes that sounds like a very good idea and I will look into that at some stage. Baz

  • I'm using the dumbells the same as you do :) cheers

  • @driftsilvia16 - that is great to hear. I hope your training goes well. Baz

  • Hi, Baz I have heard that if you have alot of muscles your running endurance gets worse or something like that. Is it true? Awesome and helpfull video btw :)

  • @Kypaav - I do not think so. Have a look at the top sprinters. They are really built. I think if you overdo it then yes you will have a problem. Mainly the steroid taking bodybuilders that have unusually big muscles. A normal great build will not really be a problem. Baz

  • @BazBlog does working the calf muscles build speed and endurance

  • @Sotatted365 - yes I think it does help. It will make your legs more explosive. Baz

  • so helpful! thanks a lot!

  • @IDOLOVEYOU123 - thanks very much and good luck with your training. Baz

  • Thanks you! I hope it's going to work! I hate my skinny calves with a passion !!!

  • @jahlove111 - it will but you must eat right. You will also have to be very patient as building up calves is one of the hardest muscles to build. Go as heavy as you can and train them really hard. Baz

  • mr bean :D

  • @x3MICKEYMOUSE - lol. Baz

  • alot of sets an alot of rapes lol

  • @titaniumpower1 - I am not sure what are rapes lol Baz

  • This guy looks like Robert De'Niro :D

  • @alfagelias - a few people have said that. I wish I had his money. Baz

  • @alfagelias ..or at least his younger brother......

  • Ur really working with the basics arent u lol... Are u on home detention lol?

  • @bigturbz - yes and the muscles really do not know the difference. They really do not care if the weights are new and shiny or old and rusty or even make shift. When you learn that you soon build muscle. It is to show some of the less privileged people that you can train anywhere without bragging about what you have got. Baz

  • @BazBlog I totally relate, I can barely afford weights, the used ones not the shiny new ones. I appreciate that aspect of your channel, and think you should take that to the next level and make it the core of it. There are plenty of people making videos on the subject, but most do it using complicated machines, in gyms, or beautiful homes. I do it in my basement of backyard with the bare minimum I can afford. I think in these difficult times there must be a good audience for you. Good work.

  • @AlMoxtar - thanks so much for your comment. I have always found that the muscles do not know the difference if the weights you use are the best available or makeshift weights. They respond to resistance and so you can actually use any kind of weight so long as your form is right and you are training safely. Baz

  • @BazBlog hi some good tips there..ive always had small calves , is it too late in my mid 40s to build a little mass? i dont want huge calves just to add an inch if poss , thanks.

  • @grumpyguts1967 - It of course it is possible. It will not be quick because they are hard to build. I would train them 2 times a week as heavy as possible doing 6 sets of 12-15 reps per set. You will have to push your self even when they burn so much that you think you will fall over. lol Baz

  • @BazBlog thanks for replying , will try that routine , cheers :)

  • @grumpyguts1967 - Good luck with it and be patient. Baz

  • Thanks. I was really stuck on how to work my calves at home with dumbbells.

    :)

  • @jjnst - I am pleased that it has helped you. Baz

  • Killer calves dude, im going for those

  • @nastythugme - thanks very much. If you are not blessed with natural reasonable calves it will take time but it is not impossible. Baz

  • thx

  • @DRlordcupid - pleasure my friend and I hope you get good results. Baz

  • Yea I rekon. But wel see wat happens.. Hopfuly we get it again!

  • @jubatski - It is going to be tough with the All Blacks with the way they are playing. Baz

  • Bokke!!

  • @jubatski - I am hoping with the world cup comming up. Not sure the coach has got it right though. Baz

  • thks man i did it right after the video

  • @IBinatree - that is great to hear. Baz

  • Would a 20kg dumbbell get me any results? And if so how long?

  • @kingrohan6 - that is impossible to say. It depends on your metabolism and genetics. I think it could make a bit of a difference but calves need heavy weight to really work. If you train right you will see a difference in about 4 months. Baz

  • @BazBlog ah thanks! um have you tried the calf raises on 2 feet where you hold a dumbbell in each hand and raise both of your calves? if so which one hits the calves more? the one your doing in the video? (one leg) or 2 legs 2 dumbbells?

  • @kingrohan6 - I find it too difficult to keep my balance with both hands holding weight and then doing 2 leg calves. I think you can go heavier doing one leg at a time and far more control as you can support yourself with the free hand. Baz

  • @BazBlog also.. if i'm doing the 2 legged calf raises where i'm holding a dumbbell in each hand and lets the the dumbbell's are equal i.e 20kg each does that mean that each calf is getting hit with 40kg's or just 20kg's???

  • @kingrohan6 - you are using 40 kgs for calf raises so they are sharing the load of 40kg. That would mean in effect 20kg each. Baz

  • there is always a god damn avertisementttttttttttttttttttttttttt

  • @Niggles4130 - a very small price to pay when you think all this info is free to you. Baz

  • Hey Baz, i train at home aswell, personally im not a fan of the one legged version because i find it more difficult to feel the contraction. instead i use my 18kg weight vest and do calf raises until i can hardly do another one, then i'll take off the vest and do them with my bodyweight to failure.

i usually do this for 4 sets. when i'm finished i can barely calf raise an inch off the floor. i do this in a day-on day-off fashion. do you think i will see results doing it like this? thanks.

  • @alexjones234 - Calves are very hard to build and you need to use as heavy weights as you can. Im not sure that you will get big result going so light and doing as many reps. I guess you must try it and so if it works for you. If I cannot do heavy weights with 2 legs then I definately would do one leg as heavy as I can. Baz

  • @BazBlog how much weight you typically use for one leg calf raises? ive seen your other video to where you use a barbell on a rack, how much weight do you use for that exercise? its just so i know how much weight i need to work with roughly. thanks.

  • @alexjones234 - you must not base what you do on what I or any one else does. You have to work it out for yourself. I use about 250 lbs because that is all I have. With single leg I use about 140lbs because that is all I can hold before my hand gives way after about 10 reps. lol Baz

  • Just a little tip, instead of doing the clave raises on a peice of wood do it on stairs, it is much more difficult.

  • @ITzCLuTcHii - that is a great idea. Baz

  • I now use this exercise :) great video, no pish, straight forward and simple

  • @CondomWindmiller - thanks very much and I am glad you like it. I hope you get good results. Baz

  • Thanks, great and verry helpfull

  • @MaGiiKTriicK - thank you so much. Baz

  • Hey baz hope u can reply to this. I'm 17 and I've been doing this exrcise on a stable wooden block, like one in ur vid, i seem to develop sum pain in the ankle area of my right foot, but whn I do it da exact same way with da left foot, thr is no pain at all, do u know why I have pain in only da right ankle?? Also also, I do it bare feet without shoes, could u reccomend how many reps nd sets I should do, donu reccomend using weights for beginners??

  • @HUNTER125X - You might have a previous ankle injury and it is worth getting it checked out. I also would not do it without shoes. I find it it very stressful on the feet. If you are under about 16 I would go very light and lots of reps so you can get a good foundation. 4/5 sets of 15+ reps. Baz

  • @BazBlog oh thankz! appreciate it! :D

  • @chuckbro01 - that sounds fantastic. I have never thought of that before. Sounds really good. Baz

  • elo baz, u recommend isolating one leg at a time? and roughly how many reps are we talking?

  • @jwoodford90 - You only do one leg at a time if you do not have access to a proper calf raise machine and you are using dumbbells. Then I normally do 6 sets of 15-20 reps per calf. Baz

  • Hey this is helpful man thanks!!

  • @HUNTER125X - pleasure and thanks for your support. Baz

  • @VFlegend - pleasure. Baz

  • @VFlegend - that is up to you. Many people do both standing and seated calves on the same day. If that is what you want then that is what you must do. I do not think there is a hard and fast rule about it. Baz

  • nice calves man. how big are they?

  • @jalbahot - thanks. I am not really sure but bigger then a lot of the big boys around and have always been complimented at gyms in the days that I used to attend them. Baz

  • Y do I feel pain/cramps on my toes or the joint of the toes

  • @brozac1011 - It sounds like you are short of some minerals in your diet as that is what usually causes cramps. Bananas are a good source of potassium and that often helps. Get a good multi-vitamin tablet. Baz

  • @dan13718 - without them there would be very little business done. You would understand this more if you owned your own business. Baz

  • Hey Baz I've only been using your exercise for 3 weeks and already i'm seeing amazing results. Just wanted to say thanks and i have subscribed. You are a great man.

  • @thisiskevink2 - gee that is very quick. I think you are lucky with that. You are obviously working hard so well done. Thanks a ton for the sub and compliment. Baz

  • @BazBlog

yoo baz how often do i want to be training on my calves ?

  • @tronix999moss - It is up to you. I personally do not train them more than 2 times a week. Some people say you can train them a lot more because they are endurance muscles. I think if you go as heavy as you can and you train them hard you will get great results with 2 times a week. Baz

  • These are not called calve raises. They are heel raises. You're raising ya heels off the ground. Not your calves. Calves are flexing mostly rather than raising.

  • @bboyStuntZ - Well that is the first time I have heard that. So all the bodybuilder around are only doing heel raises. If that is what it is I am really pleased with the results and I can now claim to have invented a new exercise which you have kindly named for me. lol Baz

  • @BazBlog Yes, all the bodybuilders around got it wrong. Common mistake. This exercise is raising the heels of the ground. Calves are flexing. Even my gym teacher explained this to me. Makes sense doesn't it? I like the way you explained this excersise.

  • @bboyStuntZ - lol Baz

  • @dannie86l - it is actually Zimbabwean. Baz

  • How many a day? and how many days a week?

  • @L3WChu - I would do 5/6 sets of 12-20 reps as heavy as possible. Personally I would not do more than 2 times a week. Some people say you can do them more being calves. I am not so sure that would be good for me. Baz

  • @BazBlog Thanks!

  • @L3WChu - if you are eating right and training hard you can see some great results in about 120 days. That is what I did. Baz

  • also bazzo ive been told that if ur not genetically blessed with big calves like myself, u should work them hard every day when u first start doing them. would u advise this?

  • @FaTmaN9009 - I would not train them every day. If I was not so lucky I still would give them a 48 hour rest I think. There is quite a bit of conflicting info on this. I think I would really give them a very hard workout each time I train them but training them every day would never give them time to rest and grow. My son made major changes to his calves training them 2 times a week. Baz

  • Kudos to you! Using your method actually made a huge improvement! Cheers!

  • @MusaSoA - I am so pleased to hear that. I hope you keep getting the results you want. Baz

  • @MusaSoA how long did it take you to see results?

  • @joehavian Well at first I could barely see anything - even when I flexed the muscles. But I trained in approximately 1 month (around 2-3 times a week) and I started to see markings.

  • @MusaSoA cool and thx for responding! are you on a diet to gain muscle or just really eating what you want?

  • @joehavian No problem. Well, you probably have to lay off the "fattening stuff" go for protein, since it builds your muscles. Eat things like Tuna, Chickenbreast, eggwhites and only red meat once a week. Hope this helped.

  • how many sets would you recommend doing for this exercise baz?

  • @FaTmaN9009 - I like to day 5/6 sets for 12 to 20 reps. The key is to go as heavy as possible and really push them as they are endurance muscles and take more to build. Baz

  • Do you switch the hand you hold the dumbell in when you switch legs??

  • @ZXxXBulletProofXxXZ - Yes I do. Baz

  • Hey is it bad if you put your legs on a chair and do sit ups?

  • @mardinioo - no I do not think so. It is a bit more like a crunch. There are many ways to train abs. Baz

  • @BazBlog thanks, i have another question. I got a guy at my school and he punched me, he is very muscular because he is on athletic. What training should i do to get more muscular arms? I only have 2,5KG dumbells. I also want bigger ab muscles, so if he punches me again it wont hurt that much.

And what is the difference between crunches and sit ups?

  • @mardinioo - I am really sorry to hear that you got punched. That guy must be quite a loser to do that. The only people who do that is because they feel inferior to others so by being a tough boy they think they are superior. I would ignore him he really is a loser. I will send you some information if you let me know how old you are so you can build yourself up. Not so you can beat up others but so people will leave you alone and respect you because you deserve the respect. Baz

  • @BazBlog okay, im 13 years old.

  • @mardinioo - I will send you some ideas and hopfully you will get strong enough so people just leave you alone. Baz

  • My left calf muscle doesnt seem to work as hard as my right why is this and what can i do to help it extend more when i do a rep

  • @svsoccer10100 - if you are doing single leg calf raises then you can add extra weight on the one you want to change. Also when you get to the top try to go even higher and hold for a full second or 2. Baz

  • @BazBlog alright thanks for the reply

  • @svsoccer10100 - pleasure mate. Baz

  • i train these siting on a bench and putting heavy bar on my knees. What do you think about it?

  • @jokubiux222 - I think that is a great idea. Seated calves are very good to do. They work the muscles under the calf muscles and that does make them stand out more. Baz

  • cough muscles???

  • @protobase - there are many accents in the world and that does not make them right or wrong. Sometimes just funny to others who hear them. lol Baz

  • front and weigh a ton, but ive just recently increased the weight and i'm just starting to adapt to it since its so heavy, but is there any way of maximizing the workout or anything else i can do at home to build then bigger? As i don't have a lot of options.. i usually do it 2 times a week so far and i've heard that you should do them more but i've stuck to 2. Should i increase, the amount of times a week, and, are there any more effective exercises i can do? Thanks.

  • @rickyrickrick1224 - That is amazing what you are doing. Well done. There is not a lot more you can do. I would do them a little more slowly and do 15/20 reps per set. 5/6 sets. Have a go at 3 times a week. You can add a dumbbell with the packs if you can. I would also at the top try to go as high as possible and hold for the count of 2. I find without going that heavy I get an amazing workout. Baz

  • Ok, here's the thing.. i used to do calve raises using two legs, but now i've switched to using 1 leg instead for over a year now and my calves are over 15" and have remained like that and have bene unchanged, but what i'd like to know is how can i get them bigger using one leg only? as this seems to be more effective than using two legs. I don't own a calf raise machine, but i do however put on two different backpacks at a time filled with these huge stone tiles, one on the back and one on the

  • thanks man for making this video , because after doing your calve workout for several months my tennis game has improved greatly because of extra strength in my calves !!! Thanks again mate !

  • @Bladerunner55217 - that is so good to hear. Thanks very much for posting your results. Baz

  • thanks very much for this, started doing this at home and it works really well :)

  • @NeWsOuNdRaVe - that is great to hear. I hope it goes well for you. Baz

  • Seated calf raises

  • @89Epro - yes they are very good and do add some depth to the calves cause they work the underlying muscles. Baz

  • Hey baz, do u get cramps in your calves? I do in my calves and hamstrings and as a result I hesitate to build up my calves... What causes them and what can I do to prevent them? Thanks and good videos!

  • Cool video. I'm currently struggling with building my calves I play hockey and lacrosse and I've started doing these and seated calf raises. How long do you think it will take to notice an improvement. I usually only have a 25 lbs weight would it help to increase? Also how often can I work on my calves, I do about every other day is that to much or to little? Thanks again and keep up the videos

  • @Macdaddy424 - Calves are hard to build. You will have to work hard for quite a few months before you will notice any changes. Seated calf raises are very good but also do standing if you can. I would go a lot heavier if you can. Try to do like 12 - 20 reps with about 5 sets. Never train them more than 2 times a week. If you are eating right you will build up your calves. Baz

  • Should be getting 2 20kgs soon but everytime I go to get them from decathlon they have no 5kgs or 20kgs so gonna have to order off the net, thanks mate!

  • @Greenbodybuilding - Excellent. You will need those weights. I am sure you will get stronger and stronger. Baz

  • Great calves! Just out of curiosity how much weight have u got at your home gym because I have just under 100kg and wondered how much more I will need

  • @Greenbodybuilding - I have about 200kg altogether. I think you will not need more than about another 60 kg. 2x20 2x10. Baz

  • Thankyou Baz this is much more simple than my way, i got about a 31KG barbell behind my neck on my sholders, and from heel, i lifted up onto my toes, thanks again!

  • @AVP181 - that is great that it has helped you. Putting a barbell on your shoulders does limit how much you do by how much you can lift up. This way you can go a lot heavier if you use straps. Baz

  • Hey Baz. Im 17 and weigh 57kg / 126lbs. What weight should i be using and how many sets and reps?

  • @p4pedwinkhan - The weight you must use will depend on how strong you are naturally. Use about 75% of the heaviest you can lift in one rep. Do 5/6 sets of 8-12 reps. If you are eating right you will get some good gains. Have a look at the nurtition video and double up on the carbs that I suggest. Baz

  • @BazBlog Thanks for the help

  • how old are you? very inspiring

  • @BrownFlip7852 - I am now 59 and thanks for the compliment. Baz

  • Awesome dude! You rock! All this time I've been trying to build my calves doing calf raises with both legs at the same time with weights across my shoulders. I think your method is better cuz it works the claves independently. Yay!

  • @MrNaviWarrior - thanks very much for the compliment. I think why one leg calf are good is because you can go quite heavy with dumbbells and the calves have to work hard. They can take quite a bit so you have to really work them quite hard to get results. Baz

  • Hey Baz im 15 and i have some very skinny stick legs. How often would you recommend i do this workout?

  • @grumpy165 - you
