  • Me cryed

  • words cannot describe what this video is, amazing video, as a huge fan of carl sagan and halo, all I can say is wow.

  • wow.

  • You didn't even credit The Sagan Series for audio track...

  • How can you even dislike this?

  • Absolutely stunning! You sir, are a genius!

  • Mind blown. Great video.

  • This is not his 'Pale Blue Dot' monologue. Good video anyway, though.

  • @RicAdbur Could you tell me what monologue this is really from so I can update the description? Thanks.

  • true so very true

  • A future where each day is brighter than the one before, and we are free.

    Free to dream recklessly.

  • A still more glorious dawn awaits, not a sunrise, but a galaxy-rise!

  • wow.. awesome tribute to reach :)

  • This speech belongs to the halo universe, it goes with halo so perfect

  • I love this video. DO you know what that song is in the background?

  • @TheDonutz I know. I feel stupid just for thinking about how grossly mislead some people are. I have incredible faith in all of mankind, beyond just nationalism, and can't understand how we humans could not be capable of greatness.

  • Nice job.

  • haha rally awsome videoo hah it makes u think haha

  • Penis.

  • *Correction. The only important thing that he has gleaned from centuries of evolution and advancements, was tablet computers. He also went on to say that the world will either turn into a nuclear wasteland, or a pile of garbage like from the movie Wall-e. I hang out with really pessimistic people.

  • I have a friend who would literally kill me if he heard this. I found out during an argument of Halo's realism that he doesn't expect any of this to happen. I probed further and discovered that, according to him, humans will cease to exist within the next two years because if we haven't made a single technological advance in the last 2,011 years, we won't advance ever.

  • @michaelcaboose1 what about the nuclier warhead or the discorery of parrell universes? E=Mc squared

also steven hawkings universe medical breackthroughs we might be humans but no one would ever kill anyone close to them

  • @michaelcaboose1 in the last 2011 years???? your friend does relize that within the last hundred we have advanced at a much higher rate than ever before right? but the problem is, resources are running out, whether we choose to admit it or not.

  • @ZuilzonDTD

Don't forget about fusing man and machine. Who knows, Humans may be machines in the long run, void of sickness and aging. Breading in labs, and advancing our evolution every few weeks. HUmans could live in space without protection! Although that would mean one Human is an army to themself.

  • Damn, i wish i could still be alive when we move to other planets, to see all the things Carl and I can only dream of seeing. Or well, i guess my great great great grand kids will have to live my dreams for me.

  • i am so sure that if we humans are able to reproduce on another planet... that we will have the biggest war of all history... this will repeat for many planets to come... and we will prevail no matter how bad the odds... LONG LIVE HUMANITY

  • Ok there people. No matter how good we become as a whole, there will always be bad, immoral, evil people. Men, women, it won't matter. Evil has no sex. (Just like verbs.) If we do evolve, there will still be bad people.

  • If humans were to evolve in the future, it probably wouldn't be that noticable. According to evolutionary theory, a trait only developes under life-threatening circumstances.

  • @Starpilot149 Yee, evolution isn't improvment (that's a common misconception), it's adaptation. Basically, we will change naturally only if we need to.

  • @sageSPH And even at that, we'd only change so much.. I seriously doubt we can grow another arm. =P But, really, how much have we changed at all?

  • If you think about we're probably going to either have a stronger stomach or two in the future. We'll also have eyes at can endure the bright lights of computer screens better, stronger muscles and structure. If I could have one thing from the future, it'd be a picture of what we humans look like.

  • intence bro:-) love it:-)

  • Bullshit. Absolute bullshit. The humans that settle our solar system and the stars beyond will be exactly like we are today. Human nature does not change. Never has, never will. Culture may lay a patina of differences over it, but the fundamentals do not change.

It'll be you and I who go to the stars. Not some New Progressive Man that social engineers cook up in the hothouse of the Princeton sociology department - or what that arrogant douche Sagan thought we should become.

  • @Halo4Lyf Don't you see? We are already changing! The wisdom, experience, and accomplishments of each generation build upon each other. We live in a world where each day is brighter than the one before and we are free to dream recklessly. If this incredible time of progress and discovery ever ends, I doubt it will be on earth.

    ....So go on.....

    Dream Recklessly.

  • @Halo4Lyf

"The humans that settle our solar system and the stars beyond will be exactly like we are today."

No they wont. When we finally get out to other stars humanity would have changed they wont kill over ideologies and religion. They'll be moving forward as humans. And you claim human nature never changes, it does. Look how far civilization has come in the past 400 years.

Humanity will change eventually because it has to. And it will.

  • @Yallniggasbetrollin "Culture may lay a patina of differences over it, but the fundamentals do not change."

You'll note that, despite all the advances we've made, there is still rape, murder, theft, and all the myriad sins that have plagued us from the beginning. Most of us still believe in a Higher Power too. Neither our frailty, nor our faith, will be erased by anything. The New Progressive (Soviet) Man will never be.

But I'm sure that won't stop you from trying.

  • @Halo4Lyf

It shouldn't stop us from trying at all to make life better for future generations.

"or what that arrogant douche Sagan thought we should become."

And it's not arrogance, it's optimism for what as a race we are capable of and should be striving for.

  • @Yallniggasbetrollin Indeed, as long as we can divorce that sentiment from the left-wing politics it has been attached to for the last century.

  • This was beautiful.

  • That was inspireing to me.

  • this man is very optimistic about us.

  • I hate Halo: Reach, dude, but this video is so damn good. Wish you made this video with Halo 1, 2, 3, and ODST, along with Reach clips. Would have been much better.

This should be a tribute to Halo as a whole.

  • @FatMarshall I really wanted to do it that way. It was going to start with Reach, then Halo CE, Halo 2(pre Delta Halo), Halo 3: ODST, Halo 2(Delta Halo), Halo 3, and finally the last shot would be Halo Reach on the grassy field so that the video would have been in order according to the Halo timeline.

  • @deathVANQUISHED That would have been amazing. Still a great video despite my feelings toward Halo: Reach.

  • @deathVANQUISHED

Well why didn't you do it like that?

  • @FatMarshall I love Reach! I know it doesn't follow chief but it fits perfectly!

  • Comment removed

  • Quite profound

  • 23 humans were not capable of greatness.

  • i'm really sorry i'm a complete retard...... i missed the like button and hit dislike

  • @42crazyguy just click the like button and it changes your vote. not sure if you were serious though. ive only done that like twice

  • this was great

  • This should have been the actual trailer audio.

  • What is the song?

  • Watching this makes me want to relive the first time I played through the Reach campaign. Bloody brilliant.

  • Just found this on my old youtube list..

    It's great

  • huge Sagan fan, but is there a track of just the music without his voice, would go great with a project i'm working on

  • HOLY FUCKING SHIT...EPIC...

  • Why doesn't youtube have a Replay button... 0:00

  • most epic tribute to humanity and this is the perfect thing to match with halo. humanity will grow and change no matter what. however how our actions are made will also affect our future.

  • most epic tribute to humanity in halo. ever.

  • I think, if Carl Sagan were alive right now, he would be perplexed, wondering why he strove for so long to acheive intellectual greatness and support scientific advances of all kinds, only to learn how few of his devout followers were able to post a YouTube comment without using the word "fuck". He would also probably have something to say: "HELP! Get me out of this coffin!"

  • @sandalphon333 Oh we all know the first thing Carl Sagan would do if he were reanimated. He would go to Francis Ford Coppola's house and beat the shit out of him for the shit he pulled over Contact. Suing a man after he dies, that's low.

  • @deathVANQUISHED Yea waiting 20 years is a bit much.

  • @sandalphon333: Anyone wise knows and has the understanding to know that everyone is on their own path, their own pace to understanding the universe. Life is beautiful.

  • This is amazing. I can listen to this a million times and still listen to it again. Thank you.

  • gran

  • Thank you.

  • This makes me sad :(

  • they should use this monologue in the halo movie

  • @cadetmarine: I agree. This monologue in contrast with intensity and power would make an awesome trailer. A Halo film will require imagination and planning. It needs to stand up there with LotR and Star Wars.

  • @Deadwind002 Well I'm writing a sci-fi story that uses these words by Carl Sagan basically as a premise XD

  • @Kniletiah I would love to read that story, just by the way :D

  • Beautiful...

  • Carl Sagan is my idol, halo is an awesome series. Great combo imo - nice video, nice tribute!

  • ... Beautiful.

  • It makes you wonder about humans...Existence.

Where we will end up next. Either the stars or beyond or...Extinct

  • Carl Sagan was centuries ahead of everyone else during his time. It will still be decades, perhaps centuries, before humans truly realize and embrace their potential. The world is changing faster than any of us could have predicted; but one thing is certain. Mankind is headed into the cosmos. So dream recklessly. Explore. Expand. Colonize.

  • @StickGuitarMan We'll have to before the 7th mass extinction, otherwise we're fucked.

  • SCIENCE ALL UP IN THIS BITCH

  • @UoBtExFODA yeah, just because someone disagrees with YOU they should kill themselves. You have no mother fucking clue how big death really is, do you? A good friend of mine, Gabrielle Woodburn, killed herself a few months ago because of shit in her social life. To you, death is just a thing that happens, but guess what? This isn't a game, I've seen the effect of what one death can do, so my advice to you is to watch your fucking mouth.

  • What IS Halo, exactly?

  • eye/eargasm!

  • Love Carl Sagan

    Love Halo

    Great Video

  • beautiful

  • Carl Sagon is amazing

  • I know the game has been out for a while, but damn this still gives me chills.

  • This should have been a commercial for Reach. Really well done. Sagan is awesome.

  • Why is there no sheet music to this?!

Great video btw. His monologues blow me away.

  • This makes me want to live forever to see what actully happens.

  • @FiroxBeasT We kill ourselves.The end

  • This video is awesome. It makes me want to watch Cosmos and play Reach. I bet Bungie wishes they used this as a commercial.

  • I'm sorry but I just can't keep the faith in humanity going anymore, I would be amazed if we are still around in 2100.

  • @skythegeek meh the way i figure we will either have blown ourselves back to the stone age by then or have learned better. not saying i think the second one is likely just that those are our options.

  • DUDE, you should REALLY edit your video description to credit the original video of this. You straight up stole the audio and music.

  • Good message. Good game. Do they mesh well? Are they supposed to? Does it matter? This is a good video.

  • @hazmat3523 Do it. Make a better video than this, I want to watch it!

@deathVANQUISHED This gave me chills. Twice. And THANK you for the spoiler warning in the description - I hate when YouTube spoils endings for me.

  • sorry this is not as great as I was hoping it would of been. The clips you took had nothing to do with the Carl Sagan audio clip and you only took cut scenes from Halo Reach and didn't bother with any of the Halo games. I could of done a much better job with this? Why don't? Because deathVANQUISHED beat me too the punch

  • @hazmat3523 could *have done a much better job

It's true that some of the scenes don't quite fit, but overall the images combined with the speech makes a very powerful effect. I rather like it!

  • Hey, the script might not be exactly matching to the story of halo, but if you, like me, have read every halo book, played every game, and fallen in love with the halo universe, you will feel your heart beat faster just watching this epic footage.

  • @brt5470 I wish Carl Sagan was never associated with elitist pricks who think that they know everything about Carl Sagan and almost worship him as a god.

  • @deathVANQUISHED Carl would probably say even he didn't know everything about himself. That ideology is kind of the antithesis of what Carl was about. But I'm sure he'd try and find out.

  • @UoBtExFODA Juxtaposition. Google it.

  • Comment removed

  • @UoBtExFODA Juxtaposition. Google it.

  • @UoBtExFODA wow you must not understand halo. we didn't start the fight we just finished it baby. (PS you sound like a douche and i hope you get sodomized by a bronze sculpture of elton john taking a dump on you as a baby).

  • Comment removed

  • @UoBtExFODA um no not really. i'm just saying that when faced with a genocidal alliance of alien religious fanatics that have reduced entire human settlements to inhospitable wastelands of glass and dust negotiation is not really an option. i mean sure we COULD try surrendering but they would just kill you anyway. theres a reason the only medal master chief never received is the prisoner of war medal, the covenant don't take prisoners. this game is about a future of united humans not the USA

  • Comment removed

  • @UoBtExFODA Just a point. The video is showing an Earth (Hungarian) colony being invaded by aliens. Aliens on a genocidal journey to rid the galaxy of humanity before they can reach the promise land.

  • @UoBtExFODA The only thing that fails is your ability to actually understand the plot of the Halo series. It isn't about humans going to strange new worlds and putting a bullet into the skulls of peaceful aliens. Its about humans who met peacefully with aliens that decided humans should be wiped out because they misunderstood the founders of their religion and rather than admit error decided to wipe out humanity. Halo is a fight for survival against an advanced gathering of aliens.

  • Comment removed

  • @UoBtExFODA I could give a long in depth response about how much of a pathetic jackass you have to be to willingly go to random things you know nothing about just to bitch about them but I feel that would be lost on you.

  • Comment removed

  • @T23Productions I'm tired of arguing with fanboys though. You already got my response on your email notification. I removed all my comments so fanboys can sleep happily thinking everyone absolutely loved this video (obviously anyone who disagrees should just kill themselves). Bye.

  • @UoBtExFODA

    1) facepalm

    2) this game is about an alien species killing humans, forcing conflicting humans to band together to survive. your comment just blatantly missed the point.

  • Comment removed

  • @UoBtExFODA there will be exceptions and that's why you said "only"? You aren't making the strongest case here. and, btw, I liked the video for the presentation and Carl Sagan, thank you very much.

  • Comment removed

  • @xboxnut137 thank you man this guy is kind of pushing the limits of believable stupidity. saying this war was unjust is like saying the holocaust was the jews fault. different issues but essentially his idiocy has officially reached EPIC DUMBFUCK proportions.

  • @brt5470 Wish you knew more about "this game" before ever speaking about it.

  • @brt5470

I think you should be glad that even Halo fans know about Carl Sagan. That means he has managed to reach many people, and that is what he wanted to do.

  • @McSibiss why wouldn't we? in a way the world of halo is a manifestation of carl sagans dream. mankind has taken to the stars, even though they were divided by petty squables they eventually did unify once more, unify as humans. so yeah no reason we would be less likely to know about carl sagan.

  • Beautiful T.T

  • Of course, those fags on Bnet are annoying.

  • Oh my G-d... My mind was blown after that last 'ding' made by the piano. Amazing.

  • Who the hell is dumb enough to click the "dislike" button?

  • this is sad everyone who likes this is a nerdy cretin who probably dont even know who carl sagan is you just like it because its something to do with halo

  • @DeAztec62 It's sad that you make assumptions like that. Not to mention, each person is allowed to have their own tastes, and the fact that you call people "nerdy cretin's" I can already infer that you make even more assumptions about people you don't even know. Oh, and both Carl Sagan and Halo are fantastic things, so if you don't like Halo, or Carl Sagan, which I can't see why, then how the fuck did you arrive at this video?

  • monkeyking617=covenant

  • Dont forget that all men are capable of greatness as an individual.

    Not just as a whole.

Aim for greatness and greatness you will fucking achieve.

  • esta chida xD

  • Hey deathvanquished, I don't know if you know this but some other dude is passing this vid off as his own. He copied it and just remade it under his own name

  • I used to listen to this all the time and I would have it in the background as I played reach. Now as the months go on I get nostalgic for this as I have for many other things in my life. I easily long for the old times and wish to redo these past few years, but then I listen to this and remember that we must look towards the future instead.

  • this made me go back and play the Reach campaign

great work dude, good editing too

    R.I.P Carl Sagan

  • wonderful

  • This video is great but can you redo it with better audio?

  • Monkeyking is a troll, you can tell it by his name "617", tha might be a referance to Arbiter617 who is makin Reach videos. So if hes a fan of Arbiter617 he cant be serious.

  • LOLLL hahahaha

monkeyking is getting so much shit. =D

what an ass. nobody FORCED you to watch this video douchebag. We are not forcing our ideals on you either so don't bring your religious crap here. This is a place for logic and facts. A gathering of minds coming together to appreciate the work of Cal Sagan, a great man.

  • @1anime1fan1 wow i misspelled Carl. lol.

I MEANT TO SAY CARL SAGAN. =D

  • One of the most influential men this world has ever seen coupled with a video game series that revolutionized the way we look at games. I'll resist the urge to engage those with religious agendas in debate this one time out of respect for a man I view as a personal hero.

I will instead relish in the beauty of Sagan's words and reflect on this man's legacy, which is far more important than any of us could ever hope to achieve, and more relevant than any debate over who is right & who is wrong.

  • Beautiful.

  • R.I.P Carl Sagan :( You are my hero.

  • On topic: It gives me chills every time I hear this.

  • this is amazing

  • Maybe somebody should make a Firefly tribute with this monologue.

  • @deathVANQUISHED is this a voice file?

  • @deathVANQUISHED I was hoping someone would.

  • @deathVANQUISHED I'd do it, but I'm busy with finals at the moment. Maybe over Winter Break.

  • @deathVANQUISHED WTF! I'm literrally just about to do that 0.0

  • wow....

  • I want to thank all of you for your great comments.

  • @deathVANQUISHED You have no understanding of ANYTHING Carl Sagan stands for if you think that this adolescent slaughterfest has anything to do with the the human species he envisioned in his book the pale blue dot ... I couldn't think of a bigger mismatch ....

  • @Bboy235 lol fail troll is ultimate fail.

  • @Bboy235 I think Carl would have embraced Halo as have I and other Science guys I know. Dusn,t take a big brain to figure out we got,s to get our fighting skills honed if we are going to compete with those squishy space monkeys.....

  • @Bboy235

    A Wild Highbrow appears!

    It uses chastising trololo

    It's not very effective...

  • @ecko8747 lmfao

  • @Bboy235 The funny thing is, is that he's matched all of the things Carl Sagan says in his speech to things that occur in this game.

  • @Bboy235 i could

  • @Bboy235 United humanity, colonisation and more of our strength with less weaknesses, A game that focuses around the PROTECTION of earth.... hmmmm?

  • @deathVANQUISHED

Ignore the idiots, good video man.

  • Carl Sagan. I cried.

  • I watch this every few days it is so awesome. :)

  • I like it when the message is profound, but conveyed by simple words. Sagan is a great communicator.

  • Comment removed

  • "We who cannot even put our own planetary home in order, riven with rivalries and hatreds; are we to venture out into space?"

  • It makes you think, dosen't it?
