Interesting comment by WishRepair! Having grown up when Springsteen broke into the scene on WMMS (Cleveland radio) he really seemed to speak for the everyday man, while Johnny Cougar was pushed to a pop sound from his record company. As time went Springsteen seemed to go a different path to me while Cougar became Mellencamp and his songs were about the common man and their plights. While Springsteen still has some good songs I think John Mellencamp has become the spokesman for common man!
