I've been playing this album for weeks now. Suddenly just can't stop listening to it. This is THE SHIT. Tone, rhythm, melody. It's freaking perfect!!
Another song that totally kicks it from these guys man! I had so much early influence from this band! They were simply an amazing band, holy shut it's been a long time since my friends and I listened to this while doing fuckin keg stands and shots. Playin this style of musac was so much fun. If it wasn't for the old school stuff like this we wouldn't be where we are at with music today ! Everyone needs to remember that, long live rock n fuckin roll
Jake E. Lee is not only one of the best guitarists in history, but he also has one of the best rock guitarist's stances ever! Total bad ass! I was lucky enough to see him live with Ozzy. I really regret never seeing Badlands live!
I remember being psyched when I heard Jake had a band and coming out with an album. Their first album was awesome, very Bad Company-ish classic rock. This and the opening tune "High Wire" was the sheeeeeyett...
jake's got the best damn sound ive ever heard... raw... real... marshall, mids.. awesome!!! is all i can say... love the sound to this day... cold chills every time!
This Band was SO good it was criminal that they didn't get noticed! Jake was by FAR the best Guitarist since Randy died with Ozzy, and Badlands' songwriting is better than ANY hard rock band in the 80's, except maybe Zebra or Y&T. And that's not a put down, because all 3 of those bands knew how to write! Jake is a monster guitarist and deserves far more credit than he gets. I am lucky enough to have both Badlands cd's and will never part with them since they are long since out of print. Peace!
This guy had some serios pipes. Along with Jake E Lee and Eric Singer it was an undeniable force. They should have been bigger than all the hair bands. Truly great bluesy hard rock.
My favorite "hair band" hands down......an incredible quartet of energy! A debut album that I CAN NEVER get bored with....Still rock this as if it came out yesterday!....R.I.P. Ray Gillen
Yea, I found their third album "DUSK" that was never released and it rocked. It was a little more straight forward rock with not too much technical changes and Ray Gillen didn't seem to belt it out as he would normally have done but under the circumstances still sang his ass off. Found it on Jake E. Lee's website. Also bought some rare live concerts on DVD!
ya, its cuz they weren't mainstream. They didnt get the attention like bands like metallica or guns n roses. I like bands like Badlands because they have hidden skill. Its a shame though cuz they didnt have as many fans as other bands.
Another non mainstream rockin band is Dangerous Toys.
Check out Dangerous Toys - Scared. You might like it.
Great talent these boys. What a voice. guys like Gillen, coverdale and tony martin, who sang on black sabbath's eternol idol album, are in a league of their own. Raspy blues feel with awesome range. Gillen was supposed to sing on eternol idol but martin stepped in last minute for some reason. wonder what that would of sounded like? Great album never the less!
lol i just found this band - am not suprised i love it so - i love bls - but the singer he looks so familiar...dont tell me he is from helloween... where else is he from?
Jake E has been written 90procent of Badlands songs on this record and If not their ''co-managers got his greasy little hands on..'' could this song -D.i.t-d. , High Wire, Winter's Call and Devil'sStomp be all big hits !
Yeah, Eric Singer is a fantastic drummer, world class. Saw him with Alice Cooper last year, damn what a solo .. Nice to the fans as well ... Thumbs up Eric S.

This guy died from AIDS...groupies usually go from one band dude to another. So, how many others that sre still alive today are most likely HIV positive? Since a girl that slept with RG probably slept with many more after him. And that would be even before he knew he had it.

However, I do think he should be in a hall of fame or something, but instead, he's "forgotten" by all but a few. This song (Winter's Call), Devil's Stomp, High Wire, Dreams In The Dark, etc. Everything from that album is sooooo brilliant. Jake is also a great player, and great songwriter. I wonder what he's up to these days?
once upon a time there was this band with more talent and finese mix with guts , a blues based hard rock with a pin of metal in your face that sadly got pushed aside by a freaking nerd depressed threechord movement coming from seattle.
This is very late 80s to 90s. I saw them play this live in Orange County somewhere between 1990 and 91 prior to the lead leaving. You really can't lump them into the 80s bands category. The Badlands album was recorded in 1989 and Voodoo Highway 1991. Voodoo Highway was already out when I saw them play.
I saw these guys way back in the day. Awesome show. The funny thing is that they were the opening act and I don't even remember who the headliner was...didn't really care. I was there to see badlands
Great song, great band, great talent! Badlands is very underrated and almost nobody nowadays even knows who they are/were. Ray Gillen was no doubt one of the best. Thanks for posting this to keep his music & memory alive.

I've wondered that myself.Jake seems to have went into hiding. He's the least talked about of ex Ozzy guitarists. He deserves better.

I think Jeff Martin from Surgical Steel played drums for these guys....correct me if I'm wrong.
blueskyboy9 3 years ago
You are correct, sir. He joined after Eric Singer left to join Kiss. I like Jeff's "other" band with Paul Gilbert, Racer X, where he's the vocalist.

once upon a time there was this band with more talent and finese mix with guts , a blues based hard rock with a pin of metal in your face that sadly got pushed aside by a freaking nerd depressed threechord movement coming from seattle.

Thak you so much for posting. Great band, Great talent. Ray has a crazy good voice. He actually sings not screams. Too bad he's gone.

I saw these guys way back in the day. Awesome show. The funny thing is that they were the opening act and I don't even remember who the headliner was...didn't really care. I was there to see badlands
krf6363 3 years ago
I know what you mean. They were awesome.
I remember driving 200 miles just to see The Rollins Band support the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Went to the bar when RHCP came on.

Great song, great band, great talent! Badlands is very underrated and almost nobody nowadays even knows who they are/were. Ray Gillen was no doubt one of the best. Thanks for posting this to keep his music & memory alive.

It's weird on all the video sites that nobody seems to ever recorded the vid for Highwire.
