It's not being a poor sport, it's being honest. You cite Meryl Streep's reactions - THAT is acting. She's lying. How could someone with any sense of identity, the barest hint of ego (which someone must have simply to exist as anything but a saint or a monk), be completely happy about losing? Sissy Spacek's performance was not the usual performance that got nominated only because it was for a horror film, but her acting was so brilliant and believable I'm glad she got a nomination. Spacek gives one of the most convincing, sympathetic, and haunting peformances ever. Dunaway was just shrill. Liv Ullmann and Spacek were both better than her.
