It surprises me how dumb society is, 57 thumbs on a comment that is completely wrong. First off, if a clutch slips in first and second, it's DEFINITELY going to do nothing but get progressively worse as you go up in the gears from the built up momentum from smaller gears. If it's not slipping in fourth and fifth gear his clutch is fine. Don't listen to the eMechanics (AKA 15 year old kids) that think there is something wrong with your clutch. It's fine, just disengage fully in second gear.

the reason of not putting your car in neutral is that the engine keeps the wheels to a certain rythm.when you step on the clutch or put in neutral then the engine and the wheels are not connected.thus the differential doesn't work.its much more easier to spin out or lose the control of the vehicle.it's a really bad habbit.it becomes even more dangerous when you shift to neutral and then brake.i only step on the clutch when going below 30km/h.the best thing to do is shifting down as you brake...
@dukeofdream Wow, this statement is just chock full of fail. It's so full of fail that this will require three comments.
1) The ROAD FRICTION keeps the wheels moving, wether in neutral or in gear. The engine doesn't have to keep the tires "in rythm" because physics does a perfectly fine job on its own.
@dukeofdream 2) When the vehicle is moving, even in neutral, the differential, driveshaft (or halfshafts), output shaft, countershaft, input shaft gearing and synchros are all moving. Learn how a transmission and differential work. It is obvious you don't have a clue.
@dukeofdream 3) Braking in neutral isn't any less safe than braking in gear. I brake in neutral to save fuel, and I'd rather replace brake pads than a clutch.
Learn how a car works before commenting next time.
@MY50GT The engine doesn't burn more fuel when you are not using the gas pedal...if you install a mpg gauge or drive a Bmw that has one built-in you will notice this...what does the differential have to do with the wheels?hit the brakes in neutral and see how it deccelerates...and then try again while shifting down gears...you are the one that doesn't have a clue...Ask any proffesional driver about that...by proffesional i don't only mean racers i'm talking about truck drivers as well...
@dukeofdream You burn slightly more fuel. More rpms = more pulses the fuel injectors make = more fuel. It's less fuel to idle than engine braking at modest to high rpm. And a BMW MPG gauge will peg past 50 doing both, so it's obvious you haven't driven one (I have).
Shifting down gears does help you brake more efficiently, you're right, but that has to do with the engine's compression slowing the car, not the differential. So again, you lose.
@dukeofdream And when I say brake more efficiently, I mean, less brake pedal pressure. A car can only brake so hard before the wheels lock up, it doesn't matter whether your in 1st gear, 5th gear, clutch in, clutch out, or neutral, all cars will lock the wheels at a certain traction threshold, unless you have ABS.
class that just changing gear as fast as you can trying not to release accelorator pedal i never take foot of gas when race changin but yep this guy knows how to get most out of it good un
@troy1965aug Most racers do let off the throttle when shifting then get on the throttle when engaged in gear, two reasons for this.
1) If you race a car that actually makes good horsepower, this keeps you from burning the tires when changing gears, not good in corners, and it makes you slower.
2) Pegging an engine against the redline during a shift puts unnecessary wear on the engine, not to mention the fuel injectors are cutting off to compensate.
@MY50GT i no that but this was done on a staight road ? you need to see some rallycross redline all the way nearly ? if the engine blows you lose that how much the mechanics mean its not a 24hr race if you cant afford to do it dont? oh and not being offensive either
@troy1965aug Even on a straight road I let off the throttle quickly when power shifting. You don't gain anything keeping the throttle wide open.
If you shift hard in second, keeping the throttle wide open, and spin the tires for two seconds, you went slower than the guy in the same car that didn't burn the tires shifting into second.
Anytime you spin tires you lose traction, and you're not accelerating at the car's full potential.
You do gain something in this car you idiot. It's called "eliminating turbo lag". This car is also AWD , so even if he did make enough power to spin all four wheels in second he'd still be accelerating mighty hard. Learn your shit before hitting the "post" button.
@CoChicken1337 So, you're saying 2/10ths of a second or less off the throttle with modern day turbos will cause so much lag ... that you'd lose LESS time by bouncing off the rev limiter (which cuts fuel) and spinning the tires ... perhaps you need to quit playing Gran Turismo and/or watching The Fast and Furious, and go learn to drag race, moron.
P.S. Having 1337 in your name just hurts your argument further by proving you're too young to have any real experience on a track.
The rev limiter generally cuts spark, or spark and fuel, but not only fuel. Cutting fuel would be worse for the engine (especially on turbo cars) because it would cause it to run lean for a few revolutions. As I stated before, this is an AWD car and you're not going to be spinning the tires very much in second unless you're making huge power, and even then you'd still be doing more good than harm by WOT shifting. You know next to nothing on the subject man. Just stop already.
@CoChicken1337 All OBD-II engines cut fuel, or fuel and spark (never spark alone) in order to prevent damage to the catalytic converters. Cutting fuel to protect the engine does not harm the turbos because they still keep some spool for reasons that are obviously too complex for you to understand.
So, do you actually race? Drag race? Track race? Rally? Or are you a magazine racer? I mean, seriously ... what makes you think you know more about racing then I do when I actually ... race?
@MY50GT rev limiters will never cut fuel only. This will cause detonation and either blow a headgasket or melt a hole in the side of a piston.Less fuel=damage.especially at high rpm or engine load
@slingblade1991 How can you have detonation if there is ZERO fuel? If having ZERO fuel is so bad, then why did the Dodge 5.7 Hemi cycle fuel-injector pulses at cruising speed to save fuel? By your theory, running out of fuel will blow up an engine.
Get a nice Fluke multimeter, one with the quick-refreshing bar graph on the bottom. Plug the leads to one of the fuel injectors, set the knob to DC VOLTS, and have a friend rev the engine in neutral and hit the rev-limiter, watch what happens.
@MY50GT The PCM will never cut fuel when the engine is under a LOAD.You can cut fuel at cruising speeds where the engine is not under a load.and there will be detonation from the residual fuel from the intake runners, unless the car is direct injected.
@slingblade1991 The engine may be under a load, but when the fuel injectors shut off, the engine, immediately, is no longer under load. There will not be a detonation from residual fuel, because the fuel injectors always fire in-time with the intake valves, whether the vehicle is direct-injected or not.
Serious, use a voltmeter on any OBD-II vehicle and look at it for yourself.
Cutting fuel and spark is the exact same thing, older engines cut spark, but that let's unburned fuel through the
@MY50GT that, and the injector duty cycle isnt going to be 0% or the engine would stop running,so it has to be given some fuel.Hence the reason it would have detonation.
@slingblade1991 exhaust system, which can eat away at the catalytic converter. That's why it is mandated with OBD-II.
Motorcycles, and non-OBD-II vehicles will cut spark, mainly because it is easier to kill power to the ignition module than it is to cut power to 3 or more different injectors.
The engine has 0% power, but it can't stop running before the PCM reacts and turns the fuel back on once it is below the redline. Hell at 6k an engine can take near a full second to stop moving.
@CoChicken1337 By the way, when you cut fuel, the engine isn't "running lean" because there is no fuel, hence there is no ignition. Running lean means you have fuel, air, and ignition, ALL THREE, but the ratio is less than 14 parts air to 1 part fuel.
@CoChicken1337 Also, the engine doesn't "run lean" if there is zero fuel, because when there is zero fuel, there is no ignition. Engines only "run lean" when they have fuel, air, and ignition, with a ratio of more than 14 parts air to 1 part fuel.
Spinning tires = slow, keeping tires at acceleration grip threshold = fast, ask anybody that races. Like really races, in real life, with fast cars, on tracks. Not your neighbor that street races with a Honda Civic.
There's no point in even talking to you any more. It's obvious that you're one of those people who just goes "LALALA NOT LISTENING I'M RIGHT YOU'RE WRONG THAT'S HOW IT IS." Think what you want. I don't care. Just know that what you're saying isn't always correct. It doesn't matter what anyone says, you're just going to think you're right no matter what. Have fun sounding confident about your incorrect statements.
@CoChicken1337 You never admitted you were wrong about rev limiters never cutting fuel, and I'm the ignorant one?
You wanna know how I know I'm right and you're wrong? I've drag raced, a lot, at an NHRA sanctioned track. I know what driving nuances are the difference between a 13.104 and a 12.930 ET.
You degenerates race on the street or read things out of a magazine and think you're an expert on the subject, and when someone proves you wrong you retort to childish behavior. You lose!
@CoChicken1337 Oh, and I will have fun! I'll have fun dusting idiots like you in the lane next to me, even though you have the faster car, simply because I can out-drive you.
You have fun playing with your Hot Wheels or driving your mom's grocery getter while making racecar noises and pretending you've actually driven fast or raced.
I'd love to see you accelerate a Supra RZ around a corner and upshift into 2nd WITHOUT letting off the throttle, maybe crashing into a wall will open your eyes.
@XxXLostDkSoulXxX Bwahahahahahahahahahaha clearly you have lost more then your soul, you have also lost your sense of hearing. Thats an OEM clutch on its way out. Stay in school kids!!!
Drop the clutch at 5000 revs, you'll get a better launch. And like the ones before me, shift better. And don't redline it, or at least not past 7500. If you noticed you wasn't going any where faster after that. Going all the way up to 8000 is slowing you down and taking wear on your engine.
The car might feel "lose, sudden and dangerous" while free-running in neutral, but instead of spraying your girly, moving-while-in-neutral car phobias, especially towards 4WD in a pussy straight, sounding all smart ass against it, speak for yourselves in some cases and consider that it all comes down to driver-to-car awareness for its center of gravity, for the car's weight distribution changes when g-forces change and how you angle the car before a corner in neutral, for example at 10 to 20mph.
I didn't want to say this at first, it's too much:
Disgusting shifting! From Evo owner to Evo owner. You loose the juiciness of Evo's torque and momentum over revving it like an engine-abusive, ignorant little dipshit playing Need For Speed.
Learn how to not hit the rev limiter everytime you change a gear dipshit. Thats why the engine would sputter after you changed it and it would have to catch up. And is that speedometer in km/h? cause thats what it looks like it says. And why the fuck did you put it in neautral? I hope someone comes and takes that car before you fuck it up dumbass
@squallz13 Honestly, I dont know. I'm guilty of doing it and i don't see the problem. The one thing i do know, is that in England, if you put a car in neutral rolling to a stop during a license test, you automatically fail.
@mopar43v3r The only thing I could think of is because they would rather people engine brake than coast in neutral, just in case something happens and they need to speed up quickly (i.e. someone is about to rear-end them).
@Pendragon1989 Which disconnects the transmission from the engine, effectively putting it in neutral. While the transmission may still be in gear, the engine is NOT connected to the wheels, which is the same thing as neutral.
and one more thing i notice on here that people are fucking retarted about..his speedo is not in mph its in kph..and if u know what that means...he is not going as fast as most people think he is..thus..all this talk about ur engine will blow and ur guna fuck up this and ur stupid for that...just shut up...he is being safe ur all justdumb and think he is going insanley fast and burning out his tranny, clutch blA bla..no he isnt..know ur shit instead of just going by what u hear..please+ thank u

im so sick of people who right shit on youtube who dont know shit about engines and its capabilities..lets ask a question..if u "weren't supposed to go above 7k..why THE FUCK would it be there?..its not healthy for ur engine to ride ur rpm that high all the time constantly..but to get TOP SPEED u will get there noticably faster riding high rpms.u dont know if he drives like that ALL the time.know ur engine and its limits and u can peg it to the fucking end of the red and be just fucking fine.
I would have to completely disagree with most of the comments on this video. Someone said that this guy doesn't deserve this car. Who cares he's spending his money so let him blow it up.
you guys do realize its entirely possible hes modded the engine to spin to 8000 safely, with the right valvetrain mods and whatnot, and just hasnt changed the gauge.
i wonder... do you know how to shift without hitting the rev limiter? dumbass gunna blow up an evo. maybe you shoulda bought a v6 95 mustang to blow up. then nobody would care. i have an idea! give me your evo cuz i can actually drive it.
@tietie1424 Considering you call us ricers, you've probably never owned a foreign car that is tuned for performance. Torque curves drop lower but hp curves on many foreign cars do not drop off until well past 7k rpm. Just thought you should know.
@tietie1424 U don't have a evo ix the power curve in an stock evo stops at 8200 rpm, and rpm's are cut by the fuel injectors cp at 8000 rpm, so u still have a 200 spare rpm... the power curve stops when the crankshaft reaches it's peack rpm wich in an evo if u take off the fuel cp it can go up to 8500 rpm without any loss of power curve, u can verify this in wikipedia if u want :P
@tietie1424 Ah and also the ''redline'' is there so u know when u culd overheat and maybe break the engine not to tell u when the power curve ¬¬ u really don't know a shit about cars... seriously m8... >.<
Evo is not a slow car. Don't underestimate it. It already beat a Skyline GT-R R34 many times. Evo is one of my favorite cars. For me,one of the fastest and one of the best!
revving until it hits the limiter is like sprint running until you puke, and then told to sprint again, then again, somethings going to break dumbass.
@Paiste402 Not a fair comparison, rpm limiters are there to ensure you do not over rev the engine. Therefore, the point of failure is MUCH higher than a what the factory programs as stock rpm limits. If you buy a shitty American car from the 90's, yeah don't bounce her off the rev limiter but many foreign cars can take it for the entire life of the vehicle, 180k+ miles.
Too bad this video never showed the full potential of the setup because the poor car never made it below 6,000rpm.

MY50GT 11 months ago
@CoChicken1337 Also, the engine doesn't "run lean" if there is zero fuel, because when there is zero fuel, there is no ignition. Engines only "run lean" when they have fuel, air, and ignition, with a ratio of more than 14 parts air to 1 part fuel.
Spinning tires = slow, keeping tires at acceleration grip threshold = fast, ask anybody that races. Like really races, in real life, with fast cars, on tracks. Not your neighbor that street races with a Honda Civic.
MY50GT 11 months ago
@MY50GT
CoChicken1337 11 months ago
@CoChicken1337 You never admitted you were wrong about rev limiters never cutting fuel, and I'm the ignorant one?
You wanna know how I know I'm right and you're wrong? I've drag raced, a lot, at an NHRA sanctioned track. I know what driving nuances are the difference between a 13.104 and a 12.930 ET.
You degenerates race on the street or read things out of a magazine and think you're an expert on the subject, and when someone proves you wrong you retort to childish behavior. You lose!
MY50GT 11 months ago
@CoChicken1337 Oh, and I will have fun! I'll have fun dusting idiots like you in the lane next to me, even though you have the faster car, simply because I can out-drive you.
You have fun playing with your Hot Wheels or driving your mom's grocery getter while making racecar noises and pretending you've actually driven fast or raced.
I'd love to see you accelerate a Supra RZ around a corner and upshift into 2nd WITHOUT letting off the throttle, maybe crashing into a wall will open your eyes.

EyelessCatharsis 1 year ago
I didn't want to say this at first, it's too much:
Disgusting shifting! From Evo owner to Evo owner. You loose the juiciness of Evo's torque and momentum over revving it like an engine-abusive, ignorant little dipshit playing Need For Speed.
EyelessCatharsis 1 year ago
people are just pussies. nothing will happen to you tranny if you put it in neutral. its like holding down the clutch on a down hill.

VaconCamp 1 year ago
Learn how to not hit the rev limiter everytime you change a gear dipshit. Thats why the engine would sputter after you changed it and it would have to catch up. And is that speedometer in km/h? cause thats what it looks like it says. And why the fuck did you put it in neautral? I hope someone comes and takes that car before you fuck it up dumbass

@squallz13 Honestly, I dont know. I'm guilty of doing it and i don't see the problem. The one thing i do know, is that in England, if you put a car in neutral rolling to a stop during a license test, you automatically fail.
mopar43v3r 1 year ago
@mopar43v3r The only thing I could think of is because they would rather people engine brake than coast in neutral, just in case something happens and they need to speed up quickly (i.e. someone is about to rear-end them).

Pendragon1989 1 year ago
@Pendragon1989 Which disconnects the transmission from the engine, effectively putting it in neutral. While the transmission may still be in gear, the engine is NOT connected to the wheels, which is the same thing as neutral.

@tietie1424 Considering you call us ricers, you've probably never owned a foreign car that is tuned for performance. Torque curves drop lower but hp curves on many foreign cars do not drop off until well past 7k rpm. Just thought you should know.

@tietie1424 U don't have a evo ix the power curve in an stock evo stops at 8200 rpm, and rpm's are cut by the fuel injectors cp at 8000 rpm, so u still have a 200 spare rpm... the power curve stops when the crankshaft reaches it's peack rpm wich in an evo if u take off the fuel cp it can go up to 8500 rpm without any loss of power curve, u can verify this in wikipedia if u want :P

revving until it hits the limiter is like sprint running until you puke, and then told to sprint again, then again, somethings going to break dumbass.
Paiste402 1 year ago
@Paiste402 Not a fair comparison, rpm limiters are there to ensure you do not over rev the engine. Therefore, the point of failure is MUCH higher than a what the factory programs as stock rpm limits. If you buy a shitty American car from the 90's, yeah don't bounce her off the rev limiter but many foreign cars can take it for the entire life of the vehicle, 180k+ miles.
