Aw, I miss the way Elmo used to be, a lot of fun. And I love the looks Maria and Luis give the camera. They're those faces that every parent wants to give the screen nowadays. See, this is why I miss classic sesame street. Even the parents could connect back then.
Elmo as a store owner!!! "Grruuuunnt... (swinging both arms side to side) Howdy do, Howdy do, Howdy do!" Love Maria's acting and impatience! Maria ends up doing her own repair so the fix-it shop can take credit! So much of this is true! I've actually been in Maria's position only another adult is playing Elmo's role!
Seeing Elmo with David is kinda weird, since they didn't overlap for very long. And David gained weight. This was just 4 years before he "checked out" for good.
Looking at this again, even the first few seconds indicate how the character's function in the series has changed over the last 23 years. To get to Luis, he has to climb up onto the table with visible effort---just like a real-life clumsy toddler will climb on something to get the attention of an adult. Nowadays, since Elmo has been evolved out of the role of "pesky little tagalong", I don't think they would show him doing things like that.
It's a subtle character detail, but it says a lot.
Now Sesame Street is nothing more then an Obama Political machine as well as a hip-hop/rap video. Thats fine if you want your children to become familiar with that garbage that degrades women and goes against sesame streets goal of promoting education
Sesame Street back in the 80's and 90's when I was growing up was a cute family oriented show now it has allowed the whole hip hop culture and gansta crap influence it they dont even have the same show anymore. Do your children a favor and write to Sesame Workshop to get rid of the urban rap and talk about of Sesame Street and make it age appropriate again. If you saw the 40th season premier I coudlnt tell if it was Sesame St., a rap video, or a Obama Kool-Aid ad.
The Sesame Street equivalent of old-school hip hop; the beginning of the end of the good stuff (but I'm still very soft about Sesame Street until Jim Henson's death in 1990). But once Elmo's World began, I would NEVER watch a new Sesame Street episode ever again!
luv this elmo. i was a nineties baby so i have to say, i luv sesame street when it was 1993. it was so innocent and peaceful. now, it is so gansta with their new theme song. it sucks! i hate the new characters. i wish the old sesame street was back... i think im going to cry!!!!!!!!!!
26:11-28:54. I luv that song Elmo sings. This is when Elmo was cute. Everyone's right, it's funny how people love him now when he WAS much cuter back then. Besides, I miss Big Bird. :D
Yeah, and take note of how the adults on Sesame Street seem to be a lot more annoyed by him in these clips than they are today. They seem to find delightful now. I think they're a bit confused.
@Garrettk41 Yeah I remember Maria in particular always being annoyed and crabby, especially with Elmo and Big Bird, when I watched Sesame Street as a kid.
I was four years old back in 1986. I absolutly loved Sesame Street. Elmo wasn't as populare in those days as he is today. He wasn't as popular as Big Bird and Oscar the Growch but on second thought elmo wasn't my favorit character.
Now this is more like it. The Elmo I grew up with, the one who was actually worth my time. I particularly like the song he sings at the end. So cute. If only he'd stayed this way. The Elmo on the current Sesame Street ought to be put in an iron mask.

well.... the character only got a name after kevin clash started performing him, but he existed before that, and even had a speaking role, before kevin clash.
You're RIGHT. Clash himself has said that Elmo was basically a puppet that got passed along because none of the original puppeteers had a feel for the characters or wanted to. Richard Hunt passed Elmo along to Kevin Clash and now here we are. If Elmo's voice is "different" today, it's not unusual. Characters grow and change with their voice actor...sort of like the mid-40s version of Bugs Bunny doesn't sound or ACT like the mid-50s version...because Mel Blanc evolved and aged.

ajaandrea: BS. It--like most shows--changed due to FCC and PC rules. Back in the day--and even here--the more grungy Street was more for all ages, whereas now, the prestine percent fake "thing" that's on TV now is for ONLY the kids who were spoonfed Elmo's corporate garbage (Elmo's World & Tickle Me Elmo)...garbage that not even Oscar would want, as he--like most of the older fans of the show--has grown to further detest "the little red menace".
how did you get a video more than 10 minutes on youtube?

ajaandrea: BS.
