modesty restrained her from self promoting. It's up to us to unearth & share the pirated recordings!

Some legato and breath control; she must inhale on alternate Tuesdays!

Incomprehensible! She has the force to shatter glass, and the judgment 7 taste to color with mezzo voces and pianissimos! Bless her!

Where in the world can I get copy of the entire completed opera (with Zeani) in cd format? It's impossible to find except on ebay but the guy is selling fake copies. I can't even find vinyl versions of this opera.

Zeani is the standard against wihch Bel Canto should be measured! Vocal agility , but with emotion & depth; no nonsense!

Gorgeous, dark sound, even from top to bottom, & a tremendous range; 3+ octaves! Perfect control, totally supported, flawless technique!

The cabaletta is perfection.

And, look at her! Never could there be a more exquisite creature. Zeani's what every man wants, & every woman wants to be!!!

Much gratitude for this wonderful posting; it's a lovely gift for all of us!

Of all under-recorded sopranos, there are two that baffle me - one is La Regina, Leyla Gencer, definitely Callas' equal; the other is the great Virginia Zeani. How could such talents be ignored by the recording industry, especially given that already in those times some minor singers managed to get recording contracts, is hard to understand! What is also amazing is that Nicola Rossi Lemeni managed to record, including with Callas - maybe competition was fiercer for sopranos than for basses?

I ABSOLUTELY agree with you! I grew up at the Met /NY. Tehy totally ignored Gencer and Zeani only made her debut when Rome Opera came to Met in 1968 - and they still never headlined her. Only when I went to live in Italy did I realize how FABULOUS these two Ladies were. I actually met Mme Leyla - along with Maestro Gavazzeni!! - a great moment of my life! Never knew if this was due to Walter Legge (Schwarzkopf's husband), at Angel Records. There were terrible rumors about his influence.

..she was active in times of STELLA, TEBALDI, CALLAS and so on...

... she was/is a fascinating lady, but had a certain decency and shyness...she did not bite or burn collegues or let audiance waiting for hours or days....

...she probably had a medium management and PR....and sometimes no luck...

...she came from Romania and her active career developed in times of "cold war" with the communist countries - a fact that was not very pushing for her western image and career....

...BUT A GREAT VOICE, A FASCINATING APPEARANCE ON STAGE, A WONDERFULL LADY, UNIQUE GREEN EYES... helas that is not enough... sometimes...

As Zeani was never short of work she herself dealt with her bookings & those of her husband Nicola Rossi Lemeni. Unlike Callas, whose career was astutely managed by Meneghini, Zeani never had a personal agent to publicise her & preferred to have a happy, private life. It is now up to us to make her better known by promoting her wonderful work via YouTube

you are right. but she is still recognised as one of the greatest of all time. She just didn´t have the media hype of Netrebko - but her artistry was so much greater!
