  • Miss Bert Kaempfert even after all these years.

He went out like a true musician. Played his last

concert in Spain, went back to his room & died.

Too young, though. Way too soon.

  • Esta es una genialidad de Bert.

Y como me lleva a mi lejana infancia llena de hermosos recuerdos, pues tiene un valor agregado para mi.

  • bought one of his albums a while back...brilliant...

  • the Bert Kaempfert version is the best of all because ,as always, he has stressed on the important parts of the song only..i.e. the chorus, the brass and most important Wimoweh. The speed is also accurate than other versions.. it really bring the feeling of Africa

  • Thanks GOD for Bert Kaempfert - this was a truly gift to the humanity.

  • Thanks GOD for Bert Kaempfert - this was a truly gift to the humanity.

  • People usually think that The Lion Sleeps Tonight is an original son, but actually it is a diferent version of the original ( MBUBE ) which is an african song in the 30` then in the 50` Wimoweh was recorded , 10 years later The Lion Sleeps Tonight became popular, Nevertheless the three versions are very catchy

  • Meu Deus, que saudades! Maravilhoso ontem, hoje e certamente o será sempre.

  • Cool orchestra , i like it lightness games ,form presented music .

  • Takes you on a Safari into deep africa,in beautiful music.

  • Another song that Bert Kaemfert "wrote" that sounds like "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" is "A Swingin' Safari", which was also recorded by Billy Vaughn. I can't help but wonder if "A Swingin' Safari", which was the original Match Game TV theme song, was yet another adaptation of "Wimoweh".

  • wicked! love this song. thanks for sharing it!

  • Great song, sounds a lot like "Lion Sleeps Tonight" from 1970's by Robert Johns (?). Did he just add words to it?

  • Yes and no.

The Lion Sleeps Tonight is, basically, an African Traditional. So the melody is the same. The first recordings of the song date from the early '20's as far as I know.

  • It was recorded in 1939 by Solomon Linda from South Africa. The "Lion Sleeps Tonight" (Wimoweh) version was basically a mishearing and re-doing by Pete Seeger & The Weavers. Later they realized their mistake in stealing Solomon Linda's song and now pay royalties to his heirs.

  • They could not pronounce''imbube''they changed it to wimoweh.you are correct ianchai'i'm glad there is somebody who knows this.

  • I basically knew because of Internet research... We're the Google generation :-)

  • Wasn't it "uyimbube"?

  • Nope, the correct spelling its Wimoweh

  • Of this song it is yes, but I was talking about the original version.

  • Immortal! thanks

  • Absolutely fantastic!
