I think the whole show is a joke and one shouldn't take it too seriously, learning to kill lobsters and talk with some weird accent that no one has used since 1940 doesn't make a person better than anybody else.
A real premise of trying to improve anybody's life, focusing on things that matter wouldn't make for good TV. You need a few old dragons that are so up themselves to laugh at.
It wasn't played over here in the UK though, no one has heard of it!
Yes you're probably correct,I can also see why it wasn't shown in Britain.Of course they'd get a bigger audience in ustralia..where,I might say, there is still an inferiority complex..making the old dragons more of a drawcard. Oh well!
I don't know if Oz has regional accents like we have in Britain. You can drive 50 miles and accents change markedly. If somebody talks quickly, it can be difficult to understand sometimes. In Northampton, a local might say, "Om godda goo dane tane t' boy sum brane traiziz" Work that one out! :-)
I'm not sure where the 'posh' accent comes from, but it seems to be the same nationwide. My other half, Piers, speaks with a 'posh' accent because he was brought up that way. Pity he's skint tho!
Um is it,I've got to go down town to buy some brown trousers? Yes there are regional accents throughout Australia Rob,more a variation on a theme though. We can all understand each other.....atm! :D
You got it, Glee. But you can imagine how odd it sounds to people outside the area, as it did to me when I first moved here.Although saying that, the Lincolnshire accent where I'm from is quite odd too. Luckily mine was much watered down! An old ditty from Lincolnshire goes: Cum yar off that blitherin' gayut! Come yar off that gayut, mayut! If thar dunt ah'll fetch mah rayuk, mayut! An' then thar'll be too layut, mayut!
@RobNorthampton Aww in the more scrubber areas the Aussie accent is heavier but I'd say it's pretty much all the same, just with different levels of bogan-ness.
Most of those reality shows where a personal transformation is being made involves a voluntary attitude from the participants. I've never seen this show, but it certainly doesn't sound like these folks signed up for it!
I think the did sign up,but I believe they would have been misled. They were all from lower socio economic groups and the "prize" was an introduction into the aristocracy & a date with a Price(albeit a most probably penniless One fromsomewhere nobody ever heard of)=a chance of a fairytale come true.Fortunately most of us know fairytales are just that! Hey thanks for dropping by! Hope to chat sometime on Twitter. :D
yep that show realy shows the British Empire is still alive n well n the class system is there for all people with so called power n infulence, there a bunch ov out dated wankers, n i get very anoyed when people call me a lady.
they did an Oz special with all the girls from Oz, i couldnt watch it its sooo stupid, these women realy do have a school for young ladies n the uber rich send there daughters there to be trained, ik ik ik, xxxjd
Saw the Oz series. One of the girls flew a small Aussie flag and said carn Australia at the start of a fox hunt..she was told she had made herself look "sluttish" WTF? Another who said she didn't approve of blood sports, was told she would "never be a lady". Well I wont cos I think FoxHunting is disgusting & cruel & anyone who does it is too! <3ya Jade :)
I so agree, I fucking hate that show, I watch it a while back for less than a minute, then I had go be sick, and I hate reality tv there's nothing real about it
Btw more than half of the video is blank : \ *****stars; ) It's good to see you ^_~
omg.. i'm a reality TV junkie! It must be a thing with being born on the 23rd June. Today Zac and i are having a "true beauty" marathon.. we got the whole first season.. I'll pass it on if you're interested. Love you! :)
So that's it.I told you on Twitter,I think,I got the whole series same night the 1st ep was on,stayed up and watched it all.But I actually thought that was a good concept, checking out the inside instead of the outside, unbeknowns! <3ya will skype to meet up! :)
Most reality shows are just train wrecks with flashy editing. So it actually makes sense that people would watch. Compelling doesn't always have to equal "good."
That being said, though, I can't take watching any of them anymore.
The pressure on women to look and act a certain way seems to be a running theme in a LOT of these shows, although the shows seem to be perpetrators of the same-old-same-old rather than helping us EXAMINE just what's wrong with that kind of bullshit.
I wish I were as strong as you in that Curt, but I find myself peeping.Maybe it's like a Christians and the Lions sort of thing?! I agree the repetition of this stuff is just perpetuating the bullshit..a pretty sad indictment about the state of our society atm! Hopefully only some elements! <3
Haven't seen that show ... but I am also not getting any british television in cable except the BBC News ... the rest is only available as pay-tv on satellite. Just took a peek to the example you mentioned in the description.
By the way, I wouldn't call me a gentleman either ;o)
Hey Glee, I agree it is pushing one persons standard onto another person. I also heard that one of the women who was "head lady" or whatever you'd called it wants the Chk Chk Boom girl in the next season
that's not a concept for a show in the US...yet. I can only imagine though with similar stuff we have here that something like it won't come along unfortunately.
Well I believe all young women should know how to behave with some decorum, and how to 'muck in with the boys' and KNOW when each is appropriate. They'd still be themselves, simply enlightened to good manners. THat show should be more aptly named Scrag to Slag LOL
Yes Geoff,I believe in appropriate behaviour for all people. The idea ostensibly was good mannersbut all it showed was the class system/aristocracy is alive and well!
IT's jsut as alive asn well here too Glee. But rather than being 'born' to the upper classes the positions are bought or are through education and/or politics.
Oh indeed,I agree with thatours is not as transparent and I'm talking about keeping values alive in England that existed during the Fuedal System..I think that sucks! :P
Take the british big brother as an example , they go out of their way to choose people who will clash and make "good tv" They will choose a few normal people and the rest are nutters with attitude problems .. 5/5 :)
Too true mate..it makes you wonder about the ethics, when those sort of situations can cause psychological problems for the "contestants"! It just ISN'T ethical!
It's cringeworthy television, and I hate all that elitist nonsense. It doesn't give the girls a sense of worth at all, it just demeans and belittles them at every turn, trying to turn them into facsimillies of who they really are. Who are those old biddies to judge anyone?
It is indeed Tam,but I kept watching and you know I felt ashamed afterwards. This show has a sinister note! Not just silly like Paris Hilton, for instance!I'll go to your garden, when my son gets off FB! :P
I've actually seen that show, & I just think it's attacking people!!! I feel sorry 4 the girls in it, as I'm sure they go in2 it hopeing 2 better themselves, also wanna b on TV, but I think it just takes advantage of them & just puts them down! It's obviously made 2 get rateings, NOT 2 help!!!
Glad to see your still around, I couldn't agree more - WTF are these old biddies telling young modern women what is & isn't acceptable behaviour, no wonder women's rights are going backwards not forwards!
You know I'm here, you can always find me somewhere, lol! Yes,I've found it quite disappointing how Womens rights have not just stagnated, but seemingly reversed. But it's not suprising! <3
I TOTALLY believe in equal rights✔, not just 4 men♂ & women♀, but every1 & every race, no matter if ur black, white, yellow or pink with purple fukin pokerdots! ~'HOWEVA'~ I do think that there r sum women out there that have taken Womens rights a bit 2 far✈ & 2 those women, i say, "I want equal rights 4 men"!!!
Dave you are another smart man! She was a great WOMAN! Nice to see you again mate! I'll be back more often now, just a little bit of life got in the way for a while! :)
Yes that's true we're all products of our environment,I agree.Unfortunately these girls were taken out of their environment and floundered. This was supposed to be entertaining,I just couldn't see how! :)
Sounds awful. I like "reality tv" however non-realistic they are, but there's a formula they use to make more drama then there really is so as to make it more interesting... Hate that.
Glee, I so agree with you ;) BUT I wish it was a a bit real...lol

My Great Aunt, who was born in 1899, used to say another one to me as a kid, because of my name, Rob (or Bob).
"If thar Bob dunt gi' ah Bob that bob that thar Bob owes ah Bob, ah Bob's gunna gi' thar Bob a bob in the eye! An ah Bob's bigger than thar Bob!" :-)
