Tra poco, nella scuola in cui insegno, verranno, come ogni anno, i "partigiani" a raccontare ai nostri ragazzi come hanno fatto a liberare l'Italia dai nazisti. Pensate, con solo dei moschetti 91, Mab, Stein, e forse qualche doppietta, hanno affrontato l'artiglieria, i carri tigre, un esercito organizzatissimo e data la libertà a tutti noi. Lo sbarco di Anzio fu forse una delle operazioni peggio riuscite degli americani. Concepito per aggirare la linea Gustav, lo sbarco avvenne senza problemi, ma il comandante americano esitò e invece di ordinare alle truppe corazzate di attaccare subito in profondità attese i rinforzi dando tempo ai tedeschi di organizzare la difesa.

Inoltre nel maggio 44' la testa di ponte avrebbe potuto tagliare la via di fuga ai tedeschi, ma anche qui si fallì, perchè a Clark interessava solo prendere Roma

yeah the anzio annie was a huge krupp k5 rail artillery gun it was also named the anzio express i will be going to anzio in two years to see some of my grandads friends graves some in anzio and some in naples it looks like a very nice place to goto aswell

I wouldn't go as far as to describe it "futile", considering that the allies had to land somewhere in Central Italy, near Rome, to be able to take Rome, in a somewhat organized manner, and consuming the least amount of logistic resources.

Just coming from Sicily would have not cut it, and liberating Italy had been a dream of Churchill's for a looooooooong time....
