Love thor Heyerdhal and all his works they may not be a hundred percent accurate but probably more so and far reaching and ahead of his time than official academia which teaches under the burden of serious predudices and anomalies and wrongful assumptions he showed by practical example that aincient man sailed the seas from many places to many places going well back into mankinds stone age and world history as it is taught is unforgivably eurocentric
Kon-Tiki is a superior film to Ra, the latter of which I happen to have one of a few copies available to mankind. The whole Kon-Tiki ordeal actually, in retrospect, was inventive in the way Heyerdahl used combined knowledge from different sciences (archeology, anthropology, folkklore, biology, geography, etc). This was not common in the early post-ww2-years. It's a cheap shot just latching onto the same ol' sour negativity Heyerdahl fought already on the day. The man was, in his way, brilliant.
Thats interesting that "Kon Tiki" is more famous tha "Ra" although unlike quite boring "Kon Tiki" (which was like a nice vacation for young men after horrible war) "Ra I" was pretty tragicomic and disastrous event.
Hey, I'm chilean and it's very touching to know that the kon-tiki expedition sailed chilean waters, I grew up hearing about it, not many know it in my country but for us who know it's a legend.
It's really cool being a norwegian when you see people like yourself write in such an inspirational manner about one of our greatest heroes, Thor Heyerdahl. You should read the book written by professor Heyerdahl: Kon-Tiki: Across the Pacific in a Raft :-).
As a child my father gave me this book to read. it was my first experience of knowledge and my first fundamental lesson that a real life hero really exists. Hero's are Thor and his friends, just people- doing incredible things... my online nic has always been Kontiki.. the little raft seeking the truth :) Thanks Dad
He was the first Norwegian to get an Oscar (only one more has) but he did not care to go to receive the price. He actually was not interested. He has done a lot of ground-braking work, allso a lot of other scientists that are against his theorys, bechause of the controvercy. A noble Norwegian he was..
It's OK...you saw this and now have an interest to learn about it. It is quite interesting...and a love of tiki led me to finding out about all of this history...it's so cool!
I've read Thor Heyerdahl's book twice. I love the story it's amazing. His grandson did the same thing not to long ago but didn't stick with balsa logs
thanks for posting; can you post the whole film? it's so hard to find, I guess the great norse explorer does not deserve to have this video re-issued or shown anywhere.
imagine living in a normal wolrd and having kids see this wonderful adventure on PBS or bbc or ....
my 7th teacher taught me and show me this movie called Kon tiki its funny as hell they had long beards and stuff funny as hell we were learning about polynesia melanesia and Malaylania
Fantastic! Thank you. I've had the book since I was a little kid, my uncle dumped a bunch of books on us he didn't want and there it was and I devoured it. It had "Pearson Street Library" stamped on it :-) About twenty years later the book acquired Dr Heyerdahl's signature when he came here to Melbourne to show his Ra presentation at the museum. Thanks for this tantalising glimpse, didn't even know a film existed -- and it won an Oscar™ !!
Hang on to that book my friend,if you can prove Thor's signature is real it is worth over £200!Just dont tell Pearson Street Library because under law it remains their property!
Great. I met him 2 years before he passed away. He was walking just ahead me, to a viking ship, and he was speedy for his age. Got a nice picture of me between him and his beautiful lady, and a autograph ofcource. Nice man..
Who narrated this? Thor himself?

Hey buds: why don't we build a Kon Tiki made of PVC pipes? It would be an ecological raft, don't you think so?

Well... I'm from Norway.. and I feel a little ashemed, because I don't know very much about this expedition...
I ... Actually thought Thor Heyerdahl did this expedition 200 years ago...
I just heard that his grandson had done almost the same (I was even surprised he was alive!).
I gotta learn this history better...
